Culture Agora

A new wiki platform, at the service of all creative industries is born: Culture Agora (www.cultureagora.info) has been especially designed to suit the need for extra visibility and expansion some creative industries may have, all while providing new information to people who also might be interested, whether it’d be on funding opportunities, trainings or courses.

The World Wide Web is full of information of all kinds, and sometimes that can be overwhelming. Funding, job or training opportunities, events within festivals, awards, are not ranked according to the searcher’s criteria or needs. That leaves a large amount of information “hidden” even if it is online, unless you know very precisely what you are looking for.

The same can be said about a video of an interesting press conference or a workshop, a master class, or the stellar moments of a film awards’ ceremony: yes, it is all available on line somewhere, but can it really be discovered unless you know all its details already?

This new tool, promoted by former Director of Spain’s Film Agency (ICAA), Ignasi Guardans, is conceived as a place in which information (text and video) becomes manageable, “filterable” constantly updated, freely available for all users interested in any area of culture and the creative industries... A wiki tool: the platform is there to discover this content in an easy way, but that content can be posted by anyone, from anywhere, in any language.

Culture Agora organizes content which must have been published somewhere already. And it offers the user a multiple criteria-searching instrument to select among offers for project collaborations, grants and funding opportunities, training, job offers, markets, exhibitions, competitions and many other current information related to the cultural sphere.

Its wiki structure, open to the publication of any information previously posted somewhere else on Internet benefits the international, multilingual visibility of all organisations, big or small. Soon, much in the way it can be done when looking for an apartment to rent or buy, the interested user can leave his/her search criteria, and the platform will send any a personalized content corresponding to those criteria if someone posted it on Agora: workshops for producers; jobs for dancers or music teachers; or new videos from festivals..

The platform wants to reach geographical Europe and the South Mediterranean. It’s structure is now accessible in English, French, Spanish, German and soon, Dutch, while an internal automatic translation tool allows access to its content in any language. A content which will always remain updated, as it expires within 6 months or less.

For more information, or to start posting content, go to www.cultureagora.info.

HAPPY ENDING FOR THE EAVE PRODUCERS WORKSHOP 2014 IN COLOGNE

HAPPY ENDING FOR THE EAVE PRODUCERS WORKSHOP 2014 IN COLOGNE

The EAVE Producers Workshop 2014 came to a close with its third and last workshop in Cologne, Germany (October 27 – November 3), organized in partnership with Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.

During this final workshop, the 48 participants from 28 countries met 57 high-profile European film industry professionals in pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings and pitched the 28 projects that have been developed throughout the workshop year.

(*Please find the complete list of Decision Makers here.)

In Cologne, over 800 pre-scheduled one-to-one encounters and various informal meetings took place. The participants were able to pitch their projects and companies, to network and create valuable business contacts for the future. The relaxed workshop setting provided an ideal framework not only to do business, but more importantly to get an exclusive feedback from leading industry professionals.

In addition to the regular workshop programme, EAVE@Cologne, a special programme for the local film industry gathered over 70 German professionals who also had the opportunity to network with the EAVE participants, experts and decision makers.

Some quotes from attending decision makers:

“Every producer I met came across as professional, and having had a thorough grounding in the industry.  ---  it's a fantastic initiative and I'm very happy to have had a chance to be part of it.”

Isabel Davis, British Film Institute, UK

“I enjoyed the wide variety of projects represented, from arthouse to documentary and more market oriented projects.”

Olivier Heitz, MK2, France

“The quality level was high and I enjoyed meeting many of your talented participants. -- It is great to have filters like your programme to focus our search for new project and talent.”

Beatrice Neumann, The Works Film Group, UK

“It is really perfect to meet so many talented producers in such a short time.”

Matthieu Darras, TorinoFilmLab, Italy

“The projects selected by you are simply great, and it is very inspiring to get to know your producers and exchange with them.”

Katharina Dufner, ZDF - Das kleine Fernsehspiel, Germany

Valeska Neu, Films Boutique, Germany

EAVE wishes all the 2014 graduates good luck for their future and thanks all the attending decision makers, experts and the pedagogical team for sharing their expertise and experience with the participants.

EAVE has the pleasure to announce that this workshop ended with some very positive and concrete results and deals made for the 2014 graduates and their projects: for example EAVE 2014 project KILLER’S FEE by Swedish producer Emma K. Dixgård was selected for the Baltic Event Co-production market. Congratulations!

In addition, several EAVE projects found their co-producers through EAVE and are soon going into production. To be kept informed, follow us on Web/twitter/FB.

WEMW launches First Cut Lab - A new tailor made workshop for features in editing phase

On the occasion of its forthcoming 5th edition, When East Meets West launches First Cut Lab (FCL), a programme designed for long feature films in the editing phase from Eastern Europe and Italy. Selected producer/director teams will work together with top festival programmers, sales agents, creative producers and editors, and will go through an intense process centred on their films embracing a variety of issues such as storytelling and rhythm in editing, festival strategy, marketing plans and audience focus.

EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR THE 4th EDITION OF EAVE+ for experienced producers from Europe and the world

EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR THE 4th EDITION OF EAVE+

for experienced producers from Europe and the rest of the world!

After three successful editions in September 2013, January 2014 and September 2014, EAVE+ goes into the fourth round. 12-15 experienced producers and 6 high-profile industry experts will gather during 4 days to discuss their company structures, management practices and new business models.

The third edition of EAVE+ will take place during January 7-10,2015 at the hotel Le Place D’Armes in Luxembourg.

Applications are open for independent producers with a solid track record and international experience from Europe and the rest of the world until November 18, 2014.

A limited number of scholarships are available for participants from selected MEDIA countries.

Led by EAVE Head of Studies Jani Thiltges (Samsa Film, LU) together with EAVE+ consultant Michael Weber (The Match Factory, DE), keynote sessions by international guests will be mixed with group work sessions and 1-2-1 meetings.

The keynote speakers of earlier editions of EAVE+ included: producer Stefan Arndt (X-Filme and X-Verleih, DE), financial manager Marc Bordure (Agat Films & Ex Nihilo, FR), management coach Michael Comyn (The Fearless Organisation, IE), digital distribution expert Andy Docherty (NL), producer Bo Ehrhardt (Nimbus, DK), producer Sigve Endresen (Motlys AS, NO), Head of the cinema department at the OBCNeuflize bank Anne Flamant (FR), distributor Jean Labadie (Le Pacte, FR) and independent US producers Mike S. Ryan and Jay van Hoy.

The key note speakers of the EAVE+ January 2015 edition will be announced in November 2014.

Some comments from the previous editions:

«It was an eye-opener.»

Stefan Arndt, X Filme Creative Pool GmbH, Germany

«I have learnt a lot during those 4 days. The level of participants and experts was excellent.»

Anne Flamant, Banque Neuflize OBC, France

«I thought it was a great four days and served as a real think tank for experienced producers to gain perspective on our changing world.»

Mike S. Ryan, Greyshack Films, USA

«The EAVE+ workshop was extremely useful on many levels - practical information on a range of subjects from promoting films on VoD platforms to how to work on one's resilience in stressful situations to raising private equity and managing those investor relationships. The networking element also really paid off in terms of finding a co-producer with access to a national fund in a country where one of my projects takes place, and that funding application is now underway.»

Natasha Dack, Tigerlily Films, UK

«I came to get inspired and to look ahead together with (my business partner). In the end I got much more because I made friends and got tremendously moved by the openness and kindness of strong fellow producers. We really got the possibility to share with each other our passion, hopes and fears in this crazy business called film producing. This is not just an ordinary workshop but its high quality both on the content level and the group work.»

Leontine Petit, Lemming Film BV, The Netherlands

«We develop, finance, shoot and sell our projects and talk about them continuously. It was refreshing to take a step back and talk about our business strategies in a whole and how to cope with a long term plan…»

Leila Lyytikäinen, Fisher King Production Oy, Finland

«The combination of people both participants and experts was magnificent and lead to a complete openness that I could not have imagined possible between a group of professionals at this stage of their careers. It was like an AA for producers, very painful but critical for our wellbeing. I am looking at everything since quite differently.»

Christine Alderson, Ipso Facto Films, UK

EAVE+ is organised twice a year in Luxembourg with different keynote speakers and topics addressed at each workshop session.

EAVE+ is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU and the Luxembourg Film Fund.
