YOUNG TESLA AND IDEA POACHERS by Petar Oreskovic, producer: EAVE graduate Sinisa Juricic, co-producers: EAVE graduates Danny Krausz, Bostjan Virc, Marko Paljic, Petra Oplatkova is in preparation. In the script co-written by Petar Oreskovic and Vanja Obad, the young inventor Nikola Tesla wants to illuminate the whole Austrian Empire with the power of electricity, but his experiments often get him into trouble. The film is produced by Sinisa Juricic of Nukleus Film in co-operation with Jaako Dobra Produkcija and in co-production with Studio Virc (Slovenia), Dor film (Austria), Gargantua Films (Serbia) and Sirena Film (Czech Republic). The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), Film Center Serbia, Creative Europe – MEDIA and the Warsaw Kids Film Forum support the film.

GARBAGE THEORY now in post-production

GARBAGE THEORY by Akos Badits, producer: EAVE graduate and Hungarian National Coordinator Viktoria Petranyi is in post-production. The story, written by Akos Badits and Agota Benedek, revolves around 23-year-old Panna, a lonely university student who is incapable of forming human relationships, until Boy (23), a self-loathing alien, arrives after Panna sent signals out into space. Boy tells Panna that the planet is doomed and that he is only interested in saving one artist in particular whom he greatly admires, Sarolta Zalatnay. The two strangers join forces: Panna helps Boy to accomplish his mission, and the alien takes her to an unknown planet in return. But the impending night will be filled with unexpected adventures. Produced by Viktoria Petranyi for Proton Cinema and being co-produced by Vision Team and Post Office Films. Supported by the Hungarian National Film Fund, the feature was shot in Budapest in August and September.

M by Vardan Tozija, producer: EAVE graduate Darko Popo is in post-production. The coming of age fantasy drama is set up in a dangerous, desolated world of the near future. The narrative threads of the story intertwine 8-year old Marko’s fantasies and the grim reality that surrounds him. Marko lives with his strict, paranoid Father, hidden within vast, dense forests. Wandering through the woods, Marko finds Momo, a lost boy with Down syndrome. The film is produced by Darko Popov from Focus Pocus in coproduction with Croatia’s 4 Film, Kosovo’s In My Country and Greek 2|35. The project is supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), the Kosovo Film Center. The film received the IFF Thessaloniki`s Crossroads Co-production Forum award through the Greek postproduction company 2|35. Principal photography in North Macedonia started on 31 August 2019 and wrapped after 38 shooting days.

EMIL by Andrei Gruzsniczki, co-producer: EAVE graduate Oana Giurgiu is in post-production. The film is a love story as well a drama of a lifelong friendship. Emil, an old man, doesn’t believe in ghosts until his wife starts haunting his best friend Titi, 40 days after her funeral. Unfolding the mysterious and sometimes funny chapters of the story, both men will learn to understand and accept one another in friendship as well as in love.
Andreea Dumitrescu is producing through AVVA MMIX STUDIO in co-production with Oana Bujgoi Giurgiu through Hai-Hui Entertainment. The Romanian co-production is supported by the Romanian Film Centre, Opel Southeast Europe / Mediacom Romania, Macromex / Publicis Groupe Media, B.V. McCann Erickson, Propaganda Creative Services.

She will hold the position till 2021. Ada Solomon was awarded the European Co-Production Award 2019 – Prix Eurimages in 2013 and became a member of EFA’s board the same year. New Board member is the Polish EAVE graduate Joanna Szymanska.

Ties That Bind 2020 open call!

Open Call for Applications until January 30

The call for applications for the next edition of TIES THAT BIND Asia - Europe Co-Production Workshop in 2020 is now open until January 30, 2020. TIES THAT BIND is the leading training programme for European-Asian co-production. The participants will work with top-notch industry professionals from both continents. The sessions will focus on script development, co-production between Asia and Europe, public and private financing in the two regions, marketing and distribution, and the legal aspects of co-production. They will meet leading Asian and European sales agents, funders and potential co-producers during the FOCUS ASIA in Udine and the Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) Forum in Singapore. TTB is targeted at European & Asian producers. We will select 5 European and 5 Asian producers. In addition to feature fiction films, we are open as well to TV series or animation fiction films in development. We encourage that you bring your directors to the workshop. We also welcome applications of European professionals interested in working with Asia such as sales agents, financiers, distributors, festival programmers, co-production market representatives, or European producers who wish to focus on their career development. We will select 5 career participants to be an active part of the group. In order to benefit from all aspects of the programme, they will be able to partner with project participants and attend the meetings with the experts and decision makers together.

The 2020 group represents a highly talented and diverse group of professionals – not only in terms of nationality, geographic spread, ethnicity, age, and gender, but also with regards to types of projects, business set-up, experience, and background.

We are very much looking forward to the 2020 workshop together!

We are particularly grateful for the generous support of our 2020 scholarship partners:

  • The French CNC supports the participation of 3 international producers at the EAVE Producers Workshop, namely Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed (Bangladesh), Realness alumni Tamara Dawit (Ethiopia) and Asma Chiboub (Tunisia).
  • Thanks to German regional fund MDM, two producers from Central and South Eastern Europe will develop their skills at the EAVE 2020 course: Valon Bajgora from Kosovo and Sergiu Cumtrenco, the first ever EAVE participant from Moldova.
  • The scholarship provided by the Polish Film Institute was granted to Natalia Grzegorzek, selected at the Polish Days in the framework of the New Horizons Film Festival.
  • PACT and EAVE are jointly offering a scholarship to one UK producer (Victoria Thomas) in the name and memory of EAVE expert Dorothy Viljoen.
  • Thanks to our collaboration with Doha Film Institute, Koussay Hamzeh (Qatar) was selected at the DFI Producers Lab and received a scholarship of the Doha Film Institute.
  • Our partnership with Telefilm Canada made it possible for two Canadian producers (Coral Aiken and Fanny Drew) to attend the programme.
  • Film Fund Luxembourg is offering a scholarship, jointly with EAVE and the Alan Fountain Scholarship Fund, for Samantha Biffot from Gabon to join the programme, selected from Ouaga Lab.
  • Our new partner IDM Südtirol – Alto Adige will grant a scholarship to Moritz Bonatti from the Italian region of Alto Adige.
  • Thanks to our new partnership, Fonds Jeune Création Francophone is offering a scholarship for Joëlle Ducray from Mauritius.
  • The support of Projeto Paradiso makes it possible for Eliane Ferreira from Brazil to participate.


In addition to those, a number of scholarships have been allocated by EAVE, in priority to participants from European low production capacity countries.

EAVE Workshop Coordinator Vacancy

EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) is a professional training, project development and networking organization funded by the Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme of the European Union and the Film Fund Luxembourg. We run training programmes for audiovisual producers mainly in Europe, but also in other parts of the world.

For a replacement of approximately 16 months (parental leave), EAVE is looking for a Coordinator for our team in Luxembourg.

The primary tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Daily office administration including general accountancy follow-up
  • Travel & hotel organisation
  • Assisting the EAVE team in the organization mainly of the EAVE Producers Workshop and EAVE Plus, as well as other EAVE events and workshops. This includes:
    • Travel & hotel organization for team, experts and decision makers
    • General workshop logistics
    • Workshop catalogues & infobooks
    • Follow-up of participants, experts and decision makers
  • Coordinating the logistics of EAVE PUENTES (2 five-day workshops in Europe and Latin America) and EAVE Marketing Workshop (4 day event in Luxembourg)
  • Organisation of EAVE pedagogical and team meetings, festival accreditations and smaller EAVE workshops (EAVE ON DEMAND)
  • Administration of the EAVE database (Filemaker)
  • Mailing of EAVE’s promotional brochures and material to festivals, decision makers, etc.
  • Assisting the EAVE team members with funding applications and reports and other tasks (EAVE PR, social media appearance)


The Coordinator will work closely with the EAVE Chief Executive and EAVE Programme Manager, as well as supporting other members of the EAVE team as required.

The Coordinator’s tasks will require occasional travelling and presence at EAVE Plus and EAVE Marketing Workshop (two 4-day-events taking place in Luxembourg) and possibly other EAVE events.

Preferable skills required:

  • knowledge of the European film and television industry and working experience in markets, festivals, production, distribution, sales, training or comparable areas / culture
  • motivation to work with partners and participants from all over Europe and beyond
  • Very good communication, social and organisational skills
  • Flexibility, dynamism, motivation
  • Capacity to work in a team
  • Ability to take responsibility and to carry out tasks independently
  • Fluent English and French and preferably one or more other European languages
  • Computer skills (MS-Office, Filemaker)


Working conditions:

The Job is based in Luxembourg in full-time (40 working hours / week), ideally starting from February 17, 2020 and until July 30, 2021.
Fixed term contract/CDD (16 months with the possibility of extension) according to Luxembourg work law (trial period: 3 months).
Working language: English
Priority will be given to Luxembourg-based candidates.

BAL & EAVE call for European producers interested in Latin American projects

BAL - Buenos Aires Lab, is the development and co-production platform of BAFICI, which takes place from April 15th to 19th, 2020, during Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival.
 
This year again, in partnership with EAVE, they launch a call for EAVE European producers that are interested in co-producing Latin American projects.

BAL will invite one EAVE producer covering flight and accommodation and will program one to one meetings with the projects from the Production Lab.

EAVE Latin American producers with projects can apply instead for BAL call for Projects within the Production Lab, a program dedicated to emerging Latin American producers with projects in advance stage of development and the Work In Progress, a selection of 1st and 2nd feature films looking for post-production support.
 
Both provide its participants with a space to work on their projects in a personalized way through one-on-one meetings with tutors, conversations with guest professionals and co production meetings with international guests.
 
In addition, the projects of both sections will compete for production and post-production awards, sponsored by renowned companies in the industry and granted by an international jury.

EAVE IMPACT and new season of EAVE ONE-TO-ONE web-series launched in partnership with CINEUROPA

EAVE IMPACT is EAVE’s new set-up to think the future of the film industry outside the box.

It is the new umbrella for innovative sessions and events / talks / think tanks / videos that EAVE organises beyond our core workshop programmes to analyse the film industry and keep inspiring innovation for the future of it.

We are launching the new hub with the EAVE IMPACT ONE-TO-ONE Season 2: a mini-web-series of 5-minutes episodes with deep, personal and informal conversations between important industry players.

The main subject of this second season is financing in the film industry and audiovisual sector.

EAVE IMPACT ONE-TO-ONE Season 2 will include conversations with industry professionals such as Yohann Comte / Charades, Petri Kemppinen / Nordisk Film&TV Fund, Titus Kreyenberg / unafilm and many others.

In partnership with Cineuropa, EAVE will launch 8 episodes periodically until the end of the year.

The first episode will be released on 9 December, and feature EAVE Pitching Expert, Sibylle Kurz and EAVE producer Amra Baksic Camo (SCCA/pro.ba) discussing “Pitching and Preparation”.

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
