It’s not considered as scolarship but as refund authomatic scheme for 80 percent of the expenses incurred up to 2.500 Euro for participants without a project and 3.500 Euro for those with a project. The capacity of the fund for 2018 is 200.000 € but could change for 2019. The directorate general cinema will operate the allocation of resources for the next year at the beginning of 2019.

BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ now in post-production
BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ by Burhan Qurbani, co-producer: EAVE graduate Léontine Petit is in post-production. The script transposes the original story (an adaptation of the classic 1929 novel by Alfred Döblin already made into a feature film by German director Phil Jutzi in 1931 and and 1980 ina TV series by Rainer Werner Fassbinder) to modern-day Berlin. The main character, 30-year-old Francis is a refugee from Guinea-Bissau who finds himself in the German capital after illegally crossing the Mediterranean on a boat – ending up as the voyage’s sole survivor – and soon realises that making an honest living as a stateless refugee with no papers is virtually impossible. Francis first strives to stay on the right path, even after he meets the shady German drug dealer Reinhold. But the two men are “bound together by a cynical fate and destructive magnetism, friendship and betrayal, hatred and a dark eroticism, as well as by love and the abuse of this love”, and Francis thus gets sucked into the Berlin underworld. The movie is being produced by Sommerhaus Filmproduktion (Germany) in co-production with Lemming Film (Netherlands) and ZDF, in cooperation with ARTE, with the support of the German Film Board (FFA), the German Ministry of Culture and Media (BKM), the regional funds of Berlin-Brandenburg, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as Eurimages.

EAVE Producers Workshop 2018 ends in Santiago de Compostela!
The EAVE 2018 Producers Workshop’s third and final workshop is taking place in Santiago de Compostela, Spain (October 22-29) right now, in partnership with AGADIC – XUNTA DE GALICIA.
70 leading international decision makers (complete list below) are gathering in Santiago de Compostela to meet the 50 top producing talents from 36 countries and discover the 25 fiction and documentary projects developed during this year’s EAVE Producers’ Workshop.
The week features special events around outreach, producer-director relationship, TV series, the financial implications of the digital shift and innovative ways of developing, financing, producing, promoting and distributing audiovisual content.
In addition to a rich programme of plenary sessions, group work and individual meetings with EAVE experts and guests, a couple of special events are taking place during the week:
Live Stream on Tuesday October 23 from Ciudad de la Cultura:
Beyond Movies – New Media Story Telling and Producer-Director Relationship
EAVE was hosted by Xunta de Galicia at Ciudad de la Cultura on October 23, where two plenary sessions were given to EAVE participants and the local industry. Both of these sessions were also livestreamed and are available also on the EAVE web page.
Tap the “Follow” button on our Facebook page for future live-stream notification!
Beyond Movies – New Media Story Telling with an outlook on the future of storytelling, financing, distributing and marketing audiovisual content. Various speakers explore the opportunities of the digital shift in the session moderated by Domenico La Porta (BE): Lorenzo Benedetti (Studio Bagel, Canal+, FR), Karim Ben Khelifa (“THE ENEMY”, DE) and Arnaud Colinart (ATLAS V, FR).
Director of Israel Film Fund Katriel Schory shared his insight into a fruitful Producer-Director Relationship.
Both sessions are available to watch online until October 29!
Outreach – EAVE Group Leader Lise Lense-Møller and Outreach Producer Kristoffer Barslund from Magic Hour Films (DK) talked about successful outreach campaigns.
TV Series and Digital Distribution - by Terea Fernándéz-Valdes from Bambú Producciones (ES), chosen by the Hollywood Reporter as one of the most powerful showrunners of European and World television in 2014 and 1016, respectively, and producer of the first original Netflix series in Spain, Las Chicas del Cable

EAVE Indaba: New Partnership between EAVE, CTIFMF and IFFR Pro of the IFF Rotterdam
The 2018 Cape Town International Film Market and Festival (CTIFMF) and EAVE are proud to announce the official partnership with the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). As of 2021, IFFR’s CineMart will be the European hosting partner for EAVE INDABA, the European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs’ program that is being developed in collaboration with Market Director Elias Ribeiro. EAVE is a professional training, project development and networking organisation for audiovisual producers.
Elias explains further, “Having gone through the EAVE training myself in 2014 and observed the impact of this program in my professional path, I thought this should be made a priority. Our continent lacks capable creative producers, who understand development and international financing and who have altruistic intentions towards the industry as a whole. Producers who understand that their role goes beyond the making of films, and extends into trend setting, advocating for, and advancing the financial infrastructure in the territories they practice as well as delivering to audiences.
Producers need to be qualified to hold the space for the creative process, to flow and to nurture talent, artistry and creativity, while running a sustainable business. Having one of the pioneering coproduction markets in the globe on board as a partner is an honor, and we look forward to crafting the program together, tapping into the wealth of experience both these organizations hold in capacity building and networking, spanning over decades.”
EAVE has also been a partner at this year’s CTIFMF where the organisation has strengthened its ties across the African continent. Together with the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO), EAVE and the CTIFMF will be building the foundations for Pan-African and international connections and skills sharing.
The confirmation of IFFR’s as official partners means that the CTIFMF will now be part of the on-going annual program. The call for submissions for the first edition of EAVE INDABA is set for 2020. 5 African and 5 European producers will be selected to take part in a yearlong program where 10 audiovisual projects will be developed through two residential workshops.
This partnership is a vote of confidence in the processes and programs that have been put into place by the CTIFMF and is part of the Festival’s long-term strategy to develop African filmmakers within a global context.
Head of IFFR Pro Marit van den Elshout has this to say about the partnership, “We are very keen to join this adventure together with long standing partner of CineMart and Rotterdam Lab, EAVE. We have high hopes of the collaboration with CTIFMF Market run by Elias Ribeiro who we know well as a producer of, among other projects, The Wound which was supported by IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund. IFFR has always had a strong interest in African Cinema. Throughout the years we have presented different film programmes that have focused on young talent from the African continent and also through the Hubert Bals Fund there have been initiatives to support this talent. There is a great variety of amazing stories to be found in the different countries and we would love to play a role in getting them to screen in whichever format. We are looking forward to strengthen the producers in their (inter)national careers.”
The EAVE Indaba taster at this year’s CTIFMF included a series of Master Classes, open to all CTIFMF Market Delegates, the first focused on Co-Producing with North America on October 11th, and the 2nd on October 13th, 2018, focused on Co-Producing with Europe, both lead by EAVE consultant Linda Beath, an international expert guest in financing who had this to say of the sessions, "The energy and focus of the participants at this year's premiere event was remarkable. During the masterclasses on financing and co-production there was notable and very active participation, a lot of interesting questions and comments, but most remarkable to me is the will of these filmmakers to move out of their own country and reach more diverse African audiences, to work with Europe actively and to explore relationships with international film talent and and viewers of every form of screen content and its delivery. I not only enjoyed - and exhausted - myself but learned a lot!"
Additionally, The Producers Circle is open to EAVE Indaba selected producers and led by EAVE group leader Diana Elbaum, an internationally acclaimed producer and winner of the 2009 European Oscar for Best Producer.
This concentrated taster of the full EAVE immersive experience offered tangible outcomes for participants, providing invaluable insights and skills transfer from these two international professionals. Tina Trapp, CEO of EAVE adds, “We are proud to be partner of this year’s CTIFMF and excited to create EAVE Indaba together with our ‘partners in crime’ CTIFMF / EAVE graduate Elias Ribeiro and CineMart / Rotterdam Lab / EAVE graduate Marit van den Elshout. EAVE Indaba is a Pan-African program building bridges between Europe and Africa and reinforcing artistic and industrial co-operation between the two continents. For EAVE, this program is the natural next step adding to our existing partnerships and workshops organised so far with Africa and we can’t wait to start."

The budget allocated per Pool amounts to €60.000 up to €100.000 depending on the number of production companies involved.
The programme takes place from January to December 2019.
Registration deadline is 26 November 2018.
All details and the application form can be found in the attached flyer and at www.focal-resource.nl/ippp.
