In the film, we follow the epic journey of redemption undertaken by Stella, who loses her sense of humour after a brain injury. But that doesn’t stop her from being funny, and this is how she stops Frank from committing suicide – by unintentionally making him laugh. Now fully recovered, Frank needs Stella to enable him to laugh and vows never to leave her. But Stella has had it up to here with people’s laughter and avoids him completely. When her cat dies, she hits rock bottom and finally accepts his help. Together, they take off and head to the High Fens nature reserve to follow an intensive laughter yoga workshop... NO FUN is being backed by the CCA, in co-production with RTBF, Proximus and Shelter Prod. The project was also supported by MEDIA. The shoot will continue throughout May.

THE GULF now in post-production

  • THE GULF by Emre Yeksan, producers: EAVE graduates Anna Maria Aslano?lu, Asli Filiz and Maria Drandaki is in post-production. The screenplay, written by the director and Ahmet Büke, revolves around an apathetic man, 32-year-old Selim, who returns to his hometown Izmir at a moment when his personal life and professional career are in ruins. Selim, who doesn’t want to plan his future, decides to reconnect with his past friends, his family and the energy that his old town offers him. However, this new adventure takes an unexpected turn when an unbearable smell spreads over the city. Regarding the idea behind the story of THE GULF, Yeksan explains that he tried to capture the increasing sense that we are living on the edge of a manmade disaster or another world war. After appearing at multiple acclaimed development workshops and co-production markets — Meetings on the Bridge, CineLink, Ekran+, Les Arcs— the project is now almost complete and is currently in post-production. The film is supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Berlinale’s World Cinema Fund, the Greek Film Centre and Swiss fund Visions Sud Est. The project was shot last summer in Izmir, which also happens to be Yeksan’s home town.

SOFA – School of Film Agents

Jump on it! - The application period for the two-part workshop has started

The application deadline for the 5th SOFA year is May, 31, 2017.

SOFA - School of Film Agents is entering the fifth round: Director Nikolaj Nikitin and his team invite future culture managers and film agents to participate in two workshops in Warsaw and Tbilisi, taking place in 2017/2018.

Since 2013, SOFA - School of Film Agents actively supports projects addressing the structural empowerment of national film industries and the European cinema market. SOFA helps its participants develop project ideas in collaboration with international industry professionals, preparing them for the finance submission process as well as the actual project realization.

SOFA is a unique institution within the international film world, as it’s focused on helping culture managers and film agents, instead of producers and directors.

SOFA is a two-part workshop with one work week in Warsaw (Poland) in August 20-27, 2017, and one week in Tbilisi (Georgia) in May 2018.

„It is with great pleasure that we offer this two-stage workshop in Warsaw and Tbilisi to our participants, creating even better conditions for the realization of their projects“, says SOFA director Nikolaj Nikitin. „For the round of 2017/2018, we opened the doors to participants from Israel, for the first time. From now on, culture managers from Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasian Republics, Greece, Germany and Israel will be granted access to applying for the SOFA program.“

The participation includes the workshops in Warsaw (August 20-27, 2017) and Tbilisi (May 2018). Participation fee is 450 Euros (scholarships possible). For further application details, please take a look at the SOFA website :.

Transilvania Pitch Stop goes international

The 16th edition of Transilvania International Film Festival announces increased joined activities related to film industry, as part of the continuous work to promote cinema and establish a platform for international co-production.

The 4th edition of Transilvania Pitch Stop (TPS), the successful initiative focused, until recently, only on development and pitching of local feature film projects, extends internationally as of this year. The program was included by Eurimages Fund among the European industry events to present the Eurimages Co-production Development Award amounting to €20,000.

TPS aims to discover a strong selection of projects from Romania and the countries around Romania destined for European co-production such as: Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Greece, Turkey and Georgia. The program aims to foster cross-border cooperation especially between the Black Sea countries and other countries invited to be part of the initiative.

TPS will presents a selection of approximate 12 projects, coming from 1st and 2nd time directors, currently in development and financing to international film professionals, facilitating their international visibility and establishing the right connections to ensure financing for their projects. Directors and producers of the selected projects will be invited to the industry event organized by Transilvania IFF on June 9th & 10th.

“It's an honor for us to be among the 10 European festivals to grant the Eurimages Co-production Development Award. It's a sign of appreciation for the success of our industry-related initiatives throughout the years and for the efforts to boost international co-productions. We continue our mission, to discover young talents, by developing a platform for the countries around Romania and the Black Sea. It's always hard to co-produce for 1st and 2nd time directors, especially in this part of Europe”, says Dorina Oarga, Head of Industry, Transilvania IFF.

Deadline: 30th of April, 2017. The regulations can be checked here.

This year, the festival will host project partners LIM - Less is More, the European platform for project development of limited budget feature films created by Le Groupe Ouest, and First Films First, an intensive professional training program aimed at supporting young Southeast European film directors to develop their first feature-length fiction film, initiated by Goethe-Institut Young Directors´ Academy South-Eastern Europe.

The industry program will also include closed screenings for industry members and special screenings of the newest Romanian films, debates and masterclasses, lining-up experts in audience development, and script writing, film directors.
