On October 30th, 2019 from 9.00-19.00 - the EAVE Producers Workshop in cooperation with MIDPOINT TV Launch, Series Mania, Torino SeriesLab and DOK Leipzig, and supported by MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, is offering a full day on Producing for the Platforms during the third EAVE workshop in Leipzig.
The goal of the day is to provide producers with 'a general overview’ of the platforms including the opportunities and challenges they bring to the business. To provide basic insights into working with serial content vis-à-vis e.g. feature films in terms of production, financing and development (showrunner principle, writers’ room). To meet representatives from (at least one of) the main platforms and get introduced to their point of view, plans, preferences and thinking re. working with independent producers, both in terms of content and process. To offer ‘hands-on’ information and experience from the producer’s perspective through a fiction and a documentary case study. And to share information on viewer patterns, contractual trends and other relevant issues.
The confirmed speakers include Linda Beath (Ideal Filmworks IT), Nicola de Angelis - Case study of NETFLIX series BABY (Fabula Pictures, IT), David Keitsch (Komplizen Film, DE), Timo Gössler (DE), Nicola Lusuardi (IT), Xavier Rambert (Eurodata, FR), Luis Singer (StickUp Filmproduktion, DE) and Katarina Tomkova (MIDPOINT, CZ).
The day will end with a dinner and networking between all who attend: The 51 EAVE producers from 29 countries, the 30 producers selected from Germany – 10 from each of the 3 regions mentioned – who will be invited, and all the experts participating both in the Platform Day and the EAVE Producers Workshop.
For those who wish to arrive on the 29th, DOK Leipzig will invite everybody to take part in a party on the 29th in the evening. DOK Leipzig will also offer for all invited German producers a free accreditation for DOK Leipzig (October 28 – November 3, 2019).
You will have to apply to attend the Platform Day and there will be a selection process among the applicants. The deadline for applications is September 20, and you can download the application form here.

EAVE Marketing Workshop - November 5-10, 2019 (Luxembourg)
A five-days immersive Audience-focused workshop exploring 360º film marketing by gaining insight about the classic tools and the latest trends in Digital PR, social media management, digital marketing and Audience building.
EAVE offers a tailor-made workshop embracing the importance of marketing techniques and Audience-centered strategies. Co-Heads of Studies Alya Belgaroui-Degalet and Sarah Calderón have designed a unique programme where participants are collectively working on the group’s projects more than half of the time. Inspired by the EAVE sharing pedagogy, Design Thinking techniques and visual, tangible and ludic exercises, the sessions are equally creative, innovative and strategic. The result is a hands-on approach with concrete tools that anyone can apply immediately within their own team in today’s and tomorrow’s industry. This casual way of learning facilitates network and community building across countries from all over the world.
The 30 carefully selected participants will have a full overview of the actual marketing trades in terms of targeting and positioning from international sales strategies to national release and also generating awareness all across the release process including festivals.

Participants can apply with or without a project at any stage of production to work with cutting-edge marketing specialists, such as Alya Belgaroui-Degalet (Wild Bunch – international sales marketing) and Sarah Calderon (The Film Agency – marketing consultant) as Heads of Studies and contributors like Michael Arnon (Wolf Consultants – PR), Boris Pugnet (former Head of Marketing at Le Pacte / Editor at Turn Right), Sally Hodgson (PIPOCA, UK) and others to come. This selective group of experts go beyond their own field of marketing and get involved in other experts sessions sharing their complementary experience

The workshop is targeted at producers as well as professionals working in sales, distribution and marketing departments. We also welcome applications from related areas of the industry (e.g. regional and national funding institutions, film festivals and markets etc.) and from relevant trainers and consultants who want to innovate in their marketing techniques. The two groups that will be working during the entire workshop are balanced in terms of all the above-mentioned trades of the film industry in order to nourish as much as possible the different perspectives.

DISCO by Jorunn Myklebust Syversen, producer: Maria Ekerhovd (Marketing Workshop graduate developing the project: Oistein Refseth) has been selected for Toronto International Film Festival and San Sebastian Film Festival 2019. Sales has been picked up by Warsaw based New Europe Film Sales.
WHITE ON WHITE by Theo Court, producer: PUENTES graduates Giancarlo Nasi and Eva Chillón (Marketing Workshop graduate developing the project: Luis Renart) has been selected for Venice Film Festival 2019.
DICKTATORSHIP by Gustav Hofer, Luca Ragazzi, producer: Marketing Workshop graduate Alessandra Principini had its world premiere at Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival 2019.

MEET THE EXPERTSDiana ELBAUM (BE) – Beluga Tree
Diana moved from advertising to film production thanks to Chantal Akerman’s decision to hire her as a young producer on A couch in New York in 1996, since then she has produced and coproduced over 70 feature films and documentaries. Most of them where showcased and awarded in A class festivals. Her films cover a large sample of genre and come from all horizons and cultures. She is known for her skill in working with renown talents as well as her audacity in producing emerging talents.
Diana is deeply committed to develop the International film industry and spends time tutoring at and for EAVE since 2007 (Europe, Africa, Middle East, Caribbean) and creating, in 2009, the program EP2C now renamed APost Lab. In 2017, Diana sets up Le Boost Camp, the first French speaking workshop for women directors.
Her tutoring, mentoring, and lectures made her travel the world around several time.
Diana created Entre Chien et Loup in 1989. Almost 30 years later, in 2017, she sold the company to open Beluga Tree in association with the Caviar Group as well as the sister company, Beluga Jungle, dedicated to documentaries and children content.
Throughout her career, Diana has worked with talents such as Chantal Akerman, Mahamat Saleh Haroun, Lisa Azuelos, Julie Bertucelli, Yuval Adler, Paul Verhoeven, Raoul Peck, Nabil Ben Yadir as well as Ira Sachs, Eran Kolirin, Isold Uggadottir, Peter Brossens and Jessica Woodworth.
Her latest films in development are Borough Park by Michale Boganim, Horse Boy by Ari Folman, Lingui by Mahamat Saleh Haroun (coproduction).
Diana lives in the heart of Europe, Brussels, with her two multicultural children.Gabor GREINER (DE) – Films Boutique
After his studies of Cultural Management in Vienna, Birmingham and Chicago, Gabor worked as journalist and film critic.
In 2003, he moved to Brussels to take charge of the distribution support department of the MEDIA Program at the European Commission's Film Fund, which was created to support the European audiovisual sector.
In 2009, Gabor became acquisitions executive at the international sales agent, The Match Factory, specializing in edgy art house films from all over the world. In August 2010, Gabor moved to Berlin to take over acquisitions of the French-German sales company, Films Boutique, winner of the Golden Bear in 2017 and the Golden Lion in 2011 and 2016.
Gabor is a member of the European Film Academy. Clare DOWNS (UK)
Consultant, Script Executive, Fund Evaluator, Lecturer, Producer – The Dress (BAFTA), High Season (San Sebastian, Best Screenplay). Clare Downs has extensive international script consulting and workshop experience. She was Director of International Creative Affairs at The Ladd Company. Founding member of the EAVE script analyst team since 1989. Head of Studies for Regional Programmes in Greece, Ireland and Scotland. Script Expert for EAVE on Demand, and for the EAVE International Programmes -Ties That Bind, B’EST. Also Head of Studies of the Southern African producer training programme, AVEA; Head of Script for FOCAL’S South Caucasian Film Project (IFSCA); Script Consultant for the Jerusalem International/Sam Spiegel Film Lab. Recent Cannes and Berlin prize winners: The Kindergarten Teacher, The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki, United States of Love, Mellow Mud, also including Wajib (Locarno, Toronto), The Accused (Venice, Toronto 2018).
WHO SHOULD APPLY & WHY?
- Teams of Arab origins or nationality residing in the Arab world – producer and writer – of projects that are at a very early stage of development and interested in understanding specifically their roles and the nature of the process and how to propel their projects to materialize.
- Projects mean fiction feature length scripts with Arabic as the main language of the film
HOW TO APPLY
- The deadline for submissions is September 5th. All projects should have a writer and a producer attached and submit a project package in both English & Arabic through an online form. All details about EAVE Development Lab, the submission requirements and the online form are available on Cairo International Film Festival website.
