In production

  • LE FAUX SOIR by Michael R Roskam, producer: EAVE+ graduate Jean-Yves Roubin is in production. The film looks back on one of the most audacious acts of resistance in Belgium during the Second World War: the publication of a fake edition of the newspaper Le Soir, a satirical pastiche which openly ridiculed the Nazi occupiers. It’s a historical subject, but it’s more topical than ever given that freedom of expression, the independence of the press and the flood of fake news are currently on many people’s minds. "During the Nazi invasion of Belgium, on 10 May 1940 the press was shut down and placed under occupier control. In Brussels, this impacted the most-read paper in the country, Le Soir. Its young owner, Marie-Thérèse Rossel, refused to work under German censorship and went into exile with her family in France. Hijacked by the Nazis, Le Soir became a propaganda tool for Hitler and the Gestapo. The film follows in the footsteps of a group of resistance fighters who risked their lives to carry out one of the most courageous acts in the history of the underground press," explained the director. Shooting kicked off on 23 September and will continue until 10 December, primarily in Brussels but also in Ghent and Mons, with some shooting taking place in France. LE FAUX SOIR is being produced by Cassandre Warnauts and Jean-Yves Roubin on behalf of Frakas Productions (Belgium), in co-production with Rectangle Productions/Goodfellas (Alice Girard and Vincent Maraval) and Harbor Men Pictures (belonging to Michaël R Roskam), in association with Anonymous Federation and Rossel (Bernard Marchant). The feature is co-produced by RTL, Proximus, BeTV and Orange. It enjoys support from the Wallonia Brussels Federation Film and Audiovisual Centre, the Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds, Eurimages, the Brussels-Capitale region, Wallimage, Screen Flanders, and Tax Shelter.

  • COWGIRL by Michal Blasko, producer: EAVE graduate Jakub Viktorin has almost completed the shooting. The film tells the story of 14-year-old Barbora, a teenager devoted to horseback riding, who is raised by her widowed father, a respected local police officer. Barbora is immersed in the world of so-called horse cutting, a sport inspired by the Western tradition, and shares a deep bond with her horse, Indy. This sport is not just a leisure activity but a way of life shaped by discipline, care, and emotional connection. “The production started on 24 July 2025 and it’s almost completed. Two extra days of shooting are planned in September, but we already started the editing in Budapest. We would like to add that the story itself unfolds against the backdrop of the beautiful Liptov nature, which in the film almost appears as another character,” producer Jakub Viktorín said. Viktorín is producing through Slovakia’s nutprodukcia in co-production with Tomas Hruby through nutprodukce (Czech Republic) and Gabor Osvath through Hungary’s Filmfabriq. The movie is backed by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Creative Europe - MEDIA, the Czech Film Fund, and the National Film Institute – Hungary.

In post-production

  • UNTIL THE DAY ENDS by Jelena Maksimovi, producers: EAVE graduates Jelena Angelovski, Miha Cernec and EAVE graduate and Slovenian National Coordinator Jozko Rutar is in post-production. The story unfolds over the course of a single summer night. Lena, a 20-year-old escaping an oppressive family environment, encounters Stefan, two years her senior, who shares her desire for acceptance and freedom. Drawn into the pulse of the city, they navigate waves of unrest. As protests erupt, they join demonstrations fuelled by the unstoppable dissatisfaction of the people. One night. Two lost souls. A city on fire. The Serbian-Bulgarian-Montenegrin-Slovenian co-production is staged by Jelena Angelovski, of Belgrade-based Taurunum Film, in co-production with Nikolay Mutafchiev for PREMIERstudio, Dusan Kasalica and Ivan Salatić for Meander Film, and Miha Černec and Jozko Rutar for Staragara. The film is supported by Film Center Serbia, the Bulgarian National Film Center, the Slovenian Film Centre and Creative Europe – MEDIA.

  • WHO ARE WE by Miroslav Terzic, producer: EAVE graduate Snezana van Houwelingen, co-producers: EAVE graduates Ankica Juric Tilic and Paul Thiltges is in post-production. The film explores the world of teenagers and the dynamics of peer violence. During a school trip, second-year high school students, collectively responsible for the bullying of their classmate Andrija, who committed suicide, must face the consequences of their actions. “In one way or another, all of us have encountered this topic during our childhood, whether directly or indirectly. For me, it became clear that it was time to make a film about it. Still, the story goes beyond the boundaries of a classroom or the frame of peer violence. As we all witness daily, we live in a profoundly violent society. What happens to our children is not an isolated phenomenon, it is a reflection of the reality we all share”, Miroslav Terzic said. The film is produced by Snežana van Houwelingen and Branislav Trifunovic of Serbia’s This and That Productions in co-production with Luxembourg’s Paul Thiltges Distribution, Italy’s Nightswim, Bulgaria’s Invictus, and Croatia’s Kinorama. Film Center Serbia, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Luxembourg Film Fund, MIC Italian Ministry of Culture, the Bulgarian National Film Center, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and Creative Europe –MEDIA are backing the project.

  • EAVE project PETTY THIEVES by Mate Ugrin, co-producers: EAVE graduates Julia Cöllen, Jelena Angelovski is currently in post-production. Rio, a quiet young man from a village in central Istria in Croatia, makes a living as a kitchen helper in a hotel resort on the Adriatic coast, committing occasional petty thefts from tourists. He takes care of his elderly grandparents and clashes with his grandmother on how to best take care of his grandfather, who suffers from dementia. After long shifts at work, he visits cruising hotspots but is cautious and reserved. One evening, Andrea, a seasonal beauty salon worker in the same resort, notices Rio stealing at the beach. She suggests joining forces and stealing from her wealthy customers in the hotel, sharing the profits. As the two spend time breaking into hotel rooms and villas looking for jewellery and money, they form an emotional bond and Rio begins to open up. But it isn’t long before Andrea is caught and gets fired from the resort, deciding to leave for Germany. The film is produced by Croatia’s Kadromat and co-produced by In the Cut (France), Fünferfilm (Germany) and Nanslafu films (Serbia), with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, CNC - Aide aux cinémas du monde, Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine, ARTE/Cofinova, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, and Creative Europe- MEDIA. The producers are Daria Blazevic and Mate Ugrin from Croatia. Tiphaine Robion from France, Julia Cöllen, Karsten Krause and Frank Scheuffele from Germany and Jelena Angelovski from Serbia are the co-producers.

EAVE and the CMF launch report on inclusive production practices

EAVE and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) today announced the Canadian launch of the 2025 EAVE IMPACT Think Tank Report on Inclusive Co-Production, a bold new framework to transform international co-production models through equity, transparency, and narrative sovereignty.

The Canadian launch coincides with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where the report will be at the centre of a special panel on September 6 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Glenn Gould Studio B. The panel, titled Perspectives: Building Inclusive and Collaborative Productions, will feature Canadian and international experts discussing insights gleaned from the report and how they can be applied across the audiovisual sector. Moderated by Tamara Dawit of Gobez Media, the panel is comprised of Ama Ampadu (British Film Institute), Jennifer Podemski (Redcloud Studios Inc./Shine Network Institute), and Karen Harnisch (Film Forge).

READ THE 2025 EAVE THINK TANK REPORT

Developed through a global, multi-partner think tank facilitated by EAVE in partnership with When East Meets West, and supported by the CMF, Telefilm Canada, and the International Emerging Film Talent Association, the report responds to an urgent need to address systemic barriers in the co-production ecosystem.

“International co-productions have long been a tool for collaboration, but too often they replicate inequitable systems and silence the very voices they aim to amplify,” said Kristina Trapp, CEO, EAVE. “With this report, we offer not just a critique—but a roadmap—for producers committed to co-creating a truly inclusive and globally representative screen industry. At EAVE, we believe this work is essential to the future of international storytelling.”

“Building a truly inclusive global screen industry demands more than goodwill—it requires frameworks for action,” said Joy Loewen, VP of Growth and Inclusion at the CMF. “This report is a powerful step forward, offering guiding principles and tangible tools that can reshape how we collaborate across borders, cultures, and communities to bring stories to life. The CMF is honoured to support this important work, and we are grateful for the strong partnerships that made it possible.”

Practical tools and strategies highlighted in the report include:

  • Story development: Engaging local communities in early narrative design and embedding cultural consultants to ensure authenticity in cross-border stories.
  • Financing and contracts: Introducing shared risk/reward models, transparent budgeting practices, and contract templates that protect the rights of underrepresented producers.
  • Production practices: Setting up inclusive crew recruitment guidelines, mandatory codes of conduct on set, and wellbeing measures such as capped working hours and access to support services.
  • Post-production: Establishing cultural review checkpoints during editing and creating processes to safeguard narrative sovereignty for Indigenous, Black, and racialized creators.
  • Distribution and exhibition: Coordinating festival premieres and release windows to give equal visibility to all producing partners, while developing equitable revenue-sharing across territories.
