  • UN SILENCE by Joachim Lafosse, producer: EAVE graduates Anton Iffland Stettner, Eva Kuperman, Antonino Lombardo and EAVE group leader and EAVE+ Head of Studies Jani Thiltges is in post-production. "The film mainly focuses on the idea of speaking out“, says the director. "With UN SILENCE, I want to try to show why silence is still so powerful, despite the important place given to this beneficial right. I want to try to show and explain why it’s so difficult to speak out." For his film Lafosse has drawn inspiration from a real event, „but what I’m really interested in isn’t the event itself, but the way in which it sheds light on a reality we can all identify with. Speaking out always comes at a cost; those who talk are familiar with this fact. We’ve also only recently learned that in a great many cases, when people speak out, it’s not the criminal who’s excluded from family or social circles, it’s the victim. What I wanted to do with UN SILENCE was to tell an accurate story, with accurate characters, revolving around this incredibly complicated aspect of our existence." UN SILENCE is produced by Anton Iffland Stettner and Eva Kuperman on behalf of Stenola Productions (Belgium), by Jani Thiltges for Samsa Film (Luxembourg), and by Antonino Lombardo for Prime Time (Belgium). In terms of French production, the filmmaker is collaborating with Régine Vial and Alexis Dantec on behalf of Les Films du Losange.

  • MILK TEETH by Sophia Bösch, producers: TTB and EAVE graduate and German National Coordinator Jonas Weydemann and EAVE graduate Karin Koch is in post-production. Swiss-born director Sophia Bösch has been shooting her first feature-length film in Germany. Bösch tells a “modern fairy tale” in which the topics of motherhood and belonging are brought into particular focus. Her protagonist, Edith, moves with her daughter Skalde to a new place, where people do not welcome them very warmly at all. Edith, however, is determined to stay strong in order to build a new life for herself and for her daughter. Skalde tries to find her own way and dissociates herself from her mother in order to ingratiate herself with the community. Later, Skalde finds a foreign child in the woods and needs her mother on her side if she wants to protect it. The film is a German-Swiss co-production between German production company Weydemann Bros and its Swiss partner Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion. It is being produced in collaboration with the German and Swiss TV channels SWR, SR, Arte, SRF Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen and SRG SSR. Additional funding has been granted by Creative Europe – MEDIA, HessenFilm, MV Filmförderung, Moin Filmförderung, Medienboard, BKM, DFFF, BAK and the Zürcher Filmstiftung. Shooting took place between mid-July and mid-September in the northern and central eastern regions of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg and Thuringia. MILK TEETH is scheduled for release in April 2023.

  • RIVER by Orfeas Peretzis, producers: EAVE graduates Konstantinos Vassilaros and Alexandre Gavras is in post-production. The film follows Alkistis, who lives in a family villa with rooms to let on the Athenian Riviera, alongside her mother Anna and their only clients: Petros, a writer; and the Chatzivasilious, an elderly couple. She is devoted to two things: her father, who died in a water-skiing accident, and a palm tree called The Jerry that lives in the front garden. Despite Alkistis' fierce opposition, her mother decides to sell the family villa. Riviera is about Alkistis’ last summer in this house, as she tries to find meaning in a world that is vanishing around her. Peretzis discussed the inspiration for his film: “Riviera is filled with memories from my teenage years, when I used to go on holidays with my grandmother in a seaside town outside of Athens. These memories consisted of run-down villas with dusty old BMWs and Mercedes’ with flat tyres left in the garages. I would hear stories about the owners, how well they lived and the big parties they used to throw. It seems that this past is what identified them.” Riviera is a Greek-French co-production being staged by Konstantinos Vassilaros for Athens-based StudioBauhaus, with Alexandre Gavras (KG Productions), in co-production with ERT SA and Micro Climat Studios. The film has received support from Creative Europe – MEDIA, the Greek Film Centre, the CNC, the Aide à la Coproduction d’Œuvres Cinématographiques Franco-Grecques support fund and the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication - EKOME SA. The project was developed at MIDPOINT Feature Launch 2019 and at the MFI Script2Film Workshops.

  • LA BELLA ESTATE by Laura Luchetti, producer: EAVE graduate Giovanni Pompili, is in post-production. It’s 1938 and we’re in Turin. Ginia is sixteen years old, and the future seems to offer endless possibilities. But her present, like that of others, is overshadowed by the Second World War. Like everyone, Ginia wants to fall in love, and she finds her man in a young painter. She discovers the artistic circles of bohemian Turin thanks to her guide Amelia, a sensual and provocative young woman who’s barely older than Ginia but is so very different from anyone else she’s ever met and is ready to shake up Ginia’s many convictions. Torn between a sense of duty and the discovery of a desire which confuses her, Ginia is overwhelmed by emotions which she doesn’t dare give a name to. During her “beautiful summer”, she finally succumbs to her feelings, celebrating her courage to be herself. LA BELLA ESTATE is produced by Kino Produzioni alongside RAI Cinema, Lucky Red and 9.99 Films, in collaboration with Tapelessfilm, and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Film Commission Torino Piemonte and MEDIA.

M, a well-off, middle-aged man, accidentally spots a suspicious-looking, dark-skinned young man at the airport. An exchange of glances and a few words set into motion a gradually escalating series of events. Anonymous fear, stereotypes and a pervasive sense of danger crawl into M’s lonesome life. Leadership and Resilience: How to steer your company & your projects through challenging times - with EAVE Expert Michael Comyn (The Times Signal Ltd). Starting from the challenges of our time, like the war, the pandemic, the energy and the climate crisis, the rapidly changing audiovisual market, Michael enlightened us on critical questions like: What’s the best way to look after yourself and your team? What are the skills that make some withstand challenges better, not bitter, stronger, not weaker? How can we lead teams and support them in keeping up a stress-resistant attitude in tough times?

Obituary Anita Voorham

The EAVE family mourns the loss of creative producer, writer and script consultant Anita Voorham.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we received the sad news that Anita passed away recently. She was a beloved member of the EAVE community, EAVE 2018 graduate and EAVE expert, and highly respected professional in the European film industry.

Anita began her career in the writer’s room; story-lining and writing for a number of successful Dutch series, among them “Gooische vrouwen”. She attended the Binger Filmlab as a creative producer, worked as a development executive for Dutch public broadcaster NTR and was invited by Torino FilmLab at its infancy as one of their core tutors. Furthermore, she joined Berlinale Script Station, Venice Biennale Cinema-College, Midpoint and the selection committee for IFFR’s CineMart. She was also a lecturer at EAVE and Midpoint and was a graduate of the EAVE 2018 Producers workshop.

Anita has collaborated on films such as: “Home” by Fien Troch, “Las Herederas” by Marcelo Martinessi, “a Febre” by Maya Darin, “L’Ospite” by Duccio Chiarini, and many others among them “The Fits” by Anna Rose Holmer, “Inexba” by John Trengove, “Touch Me Not” by Adina Pintillie and “A Ciambra” by Jonas Carpignano. She always felt that working on these diverse projects by extraordinary storytellers has been an immensely rewarding expansion of her own life and experiences. Anita is also the coproducer of Fien Trochs latest film “Holly”.

Her rich and varied career was dedicated to supporting singular, original storytellers, exert and refine their voices, develop remarkable projects and attach the right collaborators to successfully finance, produce and bring these projects to their audiences.

Anita was not only a unique professional, but also a wonderful human being full of warmth and light, whose kindness, sensitivity and humour will be fondly remembered.

Our sincere condolences go out to Anita’s wife, family and friends and those many who were so lucky to meet her in their careers.

Anita, we will miss you immensely!

The main goal is to define realistic short-, mid- and long-term strategies for the selected companies and to outline how to pick the right projects to include in the company slates.

GENRE RULES | Fantastic Film Inspirational Lab

in partnership with the Fantastic Film Forum of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival

Genre Rules is meant as a hands-on guide to the inner workings of genre cinema. Even though genre movies today are more popular and marketable than ever, producing them may not prove so easy. The genre film industry is highly specialised, with key players, industry events and subgenres of its own, and constantly changing trends. This lab is designed to provide an in-depth overview of this sector and will focus in particular on the best strategies to develop your project and effectively place it in the market. The workshop targets independent producers and new talents with an international attitude, who wish to improve their skills and become acquainted with the genre film landscape.

INFO DAY

All EAVE graduates keen to apply will have the opportunity to virtually meet with the WEMW team on November 15 from 10.00am to 11.00am to get more info about the EAVE Slate and Inspirational Labs and the submission process. To confirm your attendance and get the direct link to the INFO DAY, you need to register by writing to inspiration@wemw.it no later than November 12.

Please note that due to the restricted capacity of our venue, there will be a very limited number of on-site WEMW accreditations and therefore we encourage all professionals keen to join us on-site in Trieste next January to apply to one of our activities.

We look forward to being once again inspired all together next January!
