  • MINDSCAPES OF FRED JÜSSI by Jaan Tootsen, producer: EAVE graduate Kristian Taska has been granted financial support for production by the Estonian Film Institute. The documentary about the legendary Estonian nature writer and photographer Fred Jüssi is in development.

  • ZAVERA by Andrei Gruzsniczki, producers: EAVE graduate Alexandru Teodorescu and EAVE+ graduate Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu is in preparation. ZAVERA (an old Romanian word for “uprising”) is set during the funeral of a 47-year-old shrewd businessman, which turns into a Bacchanalia party, while his friends and business associates are fighting for his legacy, as their dark past comes back to haunt them. Gruzsniczki, Mircea St?iculescu and Lia Bugnar wrote the script. Alexandru Teodorescu is producing through Romania’s Saga Film in co-production withthough Amour Fou from Luxembourg. The Romanian Film Center is supporting. The film is currently in the casting and location scouting stage. Shooting is expected from April 2018 to September 2018.

GIRLS OF THE SUN now in production

  • NOS BATAILLES by Guillaume Senez producer: EAVE graduate Isabelle Truc is shooting. Senez once again tackles the question of fatherhood, through the story of a man who has delegated his parental duties to his partner for a long time, and who suddenly finds himself confronted with a role that he must learn to adopt. While 39-year-old foreman Olivier puts as much effort as he can into his work, Laura, his wife and the mother of their two children, vanishes from the family home. She leaves him alone to face up to his responsibilities. A disconcerted Olivier will have to assume his new position as a father and bring up his children on his own – because Laura is not coming back. NOS BATAILLES is being produced by Iota Production (Belgium), Les Films Pelléas (France) and Savage Film (Belgium), with backing from the CCA, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, the Rhône Alpes Cinema region, BETV, RTBF, Ciné+, Indefilms and Casa Kafka Pictures, in addition to Media Development. The shoot takes place from 6 November-19 December in the Lyon region.

  • GIRLS OF THE SUN by Eva Husson, producers: EAVE graduates Didar Domehri, Vladimer Katcharava and Dan Wechsler is shooting. The story written by Husson is set in Kurdistan. Bahar played by Golshifteh Farahani is the commander in chief of the GIRLS OF THE SUN, a Kurdish female battalion. She is about to take back the town where she was previously captured by the extremists. French journalist Mathilde played by Emmanuelle Bercot covers the first three days of the offensive. Through their encounter, Bahar relives the experience of how the men dressed in black changed the course of her existence. The film is produced by France’s Maneki Films in co-production with France’s Wild Bunch and Arches Films, Belgium’s Gapbusters, Georgia’s 20 Steps Productions, Switzerland’s Bord Cadre Films, in association with Elle Driver, BackUp Media, B Media 2014, Indéfilms 6 and Cinécap, and with the participation of Canal+, OCS, RTBF, Proximus, Tax Shelter Casa Kafka Pictures and the Wallonie-Bruxelles Federation. The French CNC, Creative Europe Programme – MEDIA, ANGOA, Aquitaine région and Film In Georgia cash rebate system are supporting the project. The project was selected at Rotterdam and Berlin’s coproduction markets for the Rotterdam- Berlinale Express. Shooting started on 26 September 2017 in Georgia and in France, and is scheduled for 39 days.

PUENTES project YELLOW SUNGLASSES now in post-production

  • MELTEM by Basile Doganis, co-producer: EAVE graduate Fenia Cossovitsa is in in post-production. The story revolves around Elena, a young French woman of Greek heritage, who returns to her holiday home on the isle of Lesbos in July 2015 in order to settle a matter of inheritance one year on from the passing of her mother. She is accompanied by her sidekicks Nassim and Sekou, two young suburbanites who have absolutely no intention of letting their precious holidays be ruined by the economic and migration crisis. But their encounter with Elyas, a young Syrian man who could potentially be one of their own, will propel Elena and her friends in a new direction. Produced by Elzévir Films, co-produced by Greek outfit Blonde Audiovisual Productions and pre-purchased by Ciné+, the feature secured an advance on receipts from the CNC, backing from the Greek Film Centre and French-Greek co-production support.

  • THE MIRACLE OF THE SARGASSO SEA by Syllas Tzoumerkas, producers: EAVE graduates Maria Drandaki, Ellen Havenith and EAVE+ graduate Titus Kreyenberg has finished shooting. The story, which bristles with police drama-thriller tension and also has horror undertones, follows two women: Elisabeth, a promiscuous policewoman who sees her life sinking into the abyss of a swampy provincial town; and Rita, a lonely, poor eel-hatchery worker, trapped in the circumstances of her never-changing life. They will discover a striking similarity between them in a bland, heartless world. The Greek-Dutch-German-Swedish film is a co-production by C with PRPL, unafilm, Olle Wirenhed, Film i Väst and ZDF/ARTE. The film has received the support of the Greek Film Centre, Film und Medienstiftung NRW, the Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, the Swedish Film Institute, ERT SA, Eurimages and MEDIA.

European Shooting Stars

EAVE graduate Ankica Juric Tilic has been nominated for the European Shooting Stars jury 2018. The jury will select the ten most talented and internationally diverse young actors and actresses from the 21 candidates who have been nominated by their respective EFP member organisations for the upcoming edition of European Shooting Stars. European Film Promotion (EFP), the unique network for the promotion of European films and talent worldwide, will announce the lucky ten in early December ahead of the forthcoming Berlin International Film Festival where the awards will be presented on the stage of the Berlinale Palast on 19 February, 2018.

International Federation of Film Producers Associations FIAPF award

Ties That Bind graduate Bianca Balbuena is the recipient of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations FIAPF award for outstanding achievement in film. She received the award during the 11th Asia Pacific Screen Awards held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Balbuena is the first Filipino and the youngest to receive this award. She is a producer, writer, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Epicmedia Productions Inc. Balbueno has produced over 25 films, including the 2009 Venice Film Festival’s Best Film “Engkwentro” directed by Pepe Diokno and Lav Diaz’s “A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery” which won the Berlinale 2016 Silver Bear. Balbuena took to Facebook on Friday to express how she felt after receiving the award. “To be the youngest and first ever Filipino to receive the Asia Pacific Screen Awards FIAPF Achievement in Film and hold that vessel in front of filmmakers that I look up to at the age of 31 is quite surreal and unbelievable!”

It’s a wrap for the revamped EAVE Marketing Workshop in Luxembourg!

4 intense days of innovative film marketing and audience building for the 30 selected producers and industry professionals from 20 different countries and 12 selected projects in different stages of development!

Blending group work and practical exercises, case studies and examples of innovative marketing strategies of latest films, the workshop covered introduction to SWOT, benchmarking, targeting and positioning, hands-on tips and tools for international sales strategies and materials, distribution strategies and materials, classic PR and digital media, grassroots and alternative marketing for motivating audiences.

PUENTES Europe/Latin America Co-Production Workshop heads to Montevideo for the second workshop of the year! 
14 selected participants met again to discuss and analyze each other’s projects under the guidance of top-notch European and South American industry experts!

Thanks to a special cooperation with Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes, all PUENTES & EAVE ON DEMAND Uruguay participants are attending the VENTANA SUR (Nov 27 – Dec 1) in Buenos Aires.

SINGAPORE WELCOMES TIES THAT BIND AGAIN!

The second TTB workshop is taking place in Singapore (Nov 27 – Dec 1, 2017). Thanks to the partnership with the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA), the second workshop of TIES THAT BIND 2017 will take place during the Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) Forum, where the selected TTB projects will be presented together with 15 other selected projects from Southeast Asia to leading decision makers from Asia and Europe.

GERMAN POLISH FILM FUND: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Deadline for application is December 15th 2017.

Germany and Poland share a common film-culture heritage. With the German-Polish Film Fund (DPFF), the two regional German film-funding organisations – the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg – in conjunction with the Polish Film Institute, have worked for increased cooperation between Polish and German producers. Decisions will be announced mid-February 2018.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
