THE SMELL OF FRESHLY CUT GRASS
EAVE graduate and German National Coordinator Jonas Weydemann’s company is expanding its international co-production activities with new projects from Argentina and Malaysia. Argentinean director-producer team Celina Murga and Juan Villegas are partnering with Jakob and Jonas Weydemann on the upcoming relationship drama THE SMELL OF FRESHLY CUT GRASS. Directed by Murga and written and produced by Villegas, the film follows a married couple, Pablo and Natalia, both university professors, who each embark on entangled affairs with their respective students, Luciana and Gonzalo. Like two sides of the same coin, the first half of the film revolves around Pablo and Luciana, with the second half centering on Natalia and Gonzalo. THE SMELL OF FRESHLY CUT GRASSis backed by Argentina’s Instituto Nacional de Cinematografia y las Artes Audiovisuals (INCAA) and from regional German funder Filmstiftung NRW. Production is set to start this year in Buenos Aires, with part of the post-production to take place in Germany.

TTB project TIGER STRIPES
The Weydemanns are also on board to co-produce Malaysian helmer Amanda Nell’s TIGER STRIPES which has been developed at TIES THAT BIND Asian-European co-production workshop. The  feature debut follows a carefree 11-year-old girl who suddenly starts experiencing horrifying physical changes. As her body morphs at an alarming and frightening rate, she struggles to conceal her grotesque alterations — until she decides that she no longer wants to hide from the world. The project in 2018 won the Hubert Bals Fund’s Bright Future development support at Rotterdam and the Talents Tokyo Award, and last year picked up the Sitges Pitchbox Award at the Network of Asian Fantastic Films at Bucheon. Foo Fei Ling is producing for Ghost Grrrl Pictures, a Malaysia-based company specializing in producing female-centric films from Southeast Asia. Fran Borgia of Singapore production house Akanga Film Asia and Yulia Evina Bhara of Indonesian production outfit KawanKawan Media are co-producing. TIGER STRIPES, which is expected to receive German regional funding, is scheduled to start principal photography in Malaysia later this year.

EAVE PUENTES: extended call until March 2!

Apply now for PUENTES Europe / Latin America Co-Production Workshop 2020

Extended deadline for applications: March 2!

EAVE PUENTES is the most relevant and successful training programme for developing European-Latin American co-production.

At the EAVE PUENTES – Europe / Latin America Co-Production Workshop the projects are being developed over one year by the attending producers under the guidance of top notch consultants, working on the script development, the financial, co-production, marketing and distribution strategies and where the producers extended their professional network meeting key players of the industry in Europe and Latin America.

EAVE PUENTES is targeted at Latin American & European producers focusing on project development, 10 of which will be selected for the workshop. We are also open to receive the applications of other European professionals interested in working with Latin America (sales agents, financiers, distributors, festival programmers, co-production market representatives) or European producers focusing on career development (not bringing a specific project). 4-5 of them will be selected to be an active part of the group.

Find out all about the target group, the application criteria and regulations on the EAVE website:  https://eave.org/programmes/puentes-2020/

UMW presents: Autobahn, VoD Distribution for European Digital Native Films

Founded in 2010, Under The Milky Way works with a large number of VoD Platforms and was awarded the global iTunes preferred aggregator status in 2011. The company is fully operational on more than 100 territories and serves all kinds of rights-holders (producers, distributors, sales agents) out of 13 regional offices in Europe, North America and Asia.

Based on their experience after having distributed more than 5,000 films, UMW sees the emergence of a new type of film, which increasingly transgress the codes of traditional production.  These digital native films must be promoted as such to meet their audience. It is in this context that UMW offers a new international exclusively digital distribution package to producers, in the frame of the Call for Proposals on Promotion of European Audiovisual Works Online (Creative Europe).

This video presents UMW’s work as an aggregator and details of their new project called:  Autobahn, VoD Distribution for European Digital Native Films.

Special offer for Irish and Croatian producers at EAVE Producers Workshop 2020

In the framework of Capitals of Culture Galway and Rijeka 2020, EAVE will select a group of 5 Irish producers (with priority to the Galway and West of Ireland region) and 5 Croatian producers (with priority to Rijeka region) to join workshops 2 and 3 of EAVE Producers Workshop 2020.

Irish and Croatian producers can apply to join either with a project (fiction, documentary or TV series) or as participants focusing on career development (without a specific project).

ABOUT EAVE PRODUCERS WORKSHOP

EAVE, European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs, is one of the leading training and development providers for producers in Europe, renowned for its EAVE Producers Workshop.

Who is it for?

EAVE is aimed at producers, both fiction, documentary and TV series, who are already working in the film and television industries who wish to begin to operate on a European wide basis by increasing their knowledge of producing and co-producing in Europe and by building up a pan European professional network.

How does it work?

Part of the participants attend the course with projects and it is an excellent means of development through intense focus on the project with colleagues and experts. The other part come to EAVE in order to focus on developing their companies or careers.

The Irish and Croatian participants work as a group led by experienced producer Titus Kreyenberg (unafilm, DE) and with several experts on script analysis, development and production financing, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching, packaging and more. In the October workshop 60-70 Decision Makers (commissioning editors, national and regional media funds, sales agents, etc.) join the participants to discuss the projects, companies and careers of the participants, a process which offers unusual access to Europe's Decision Makers.

Participation at both workshops will also be a unique opportunity to network with EAVE’s 55 participants from 40 countries and the EAVE experts and pedagogical team.

Timeline

The selection of the Irish and Croatian participants will be announced in March 2020. The workshops dates will be from June 8 - 12 in Galway (IE), and October 20 - 24 in Rijeka/Opatija (HR), 2020.
