- MALDOROR by Fabrice du Welz, producer: EAVE graduate Jean-Yves Roubin
- TKT by Solange Cicurel, producer: EAVE graduate and group leader Diana Elbaum
- LES SNULS by Guillermo Guiz and Gilles Dal, producer: EAVE graduate Annabella Nezri
- PUENTES project STREETS OF GLORIA by Felipe Sholl, producer: PUENTES graduate Daniel van Hoogstraten is in pre-production. The plot: Gabriel moves to Rio after suffering a great loss. In denial about his grief, he becomes obsessed with an escort boy, Adriano, who disappears. Gabriel then starts an investigation on Adriano, which leads to him becoming an escort himself. Support comes from TELECINE Brazil. Shootings will happen from March 20th to April 20th.
- PUENTES project WHEN RAIN FALLS by Yanillys Perez, producer: PUENTES graduate Thibaud Billiard received funding by the Dominican Republic’s FONPROCINE. Resistencia (9) yearns for her mother’s love as she is left alone to parent her younger sisters, Esperanza (7) and Mía (5), while her mother Marta (30), struggles to make money in a mine, in hopes of returning to her home country. The project won World Cinema Fund Audience strategy at Locarno Film Festival, Open Doors 2022 and the Morelia Laboratorio de Guion 2021 at Sundance.
- EAVE project TINGINYS by Maximilien Dejoie and Virginija Vareikyte, producers: EAVE graduates Roberto Cavallini and Dagne Vildziunaite received development funding from the Film Commission Torino Piemonte. Escaping the Spanish flu pandemic, Marilee and her brother James are forced to fend for themselves away in a log cabin deep in the forest. To prevent her brother from going back home, Marilee tells him the tale of Tinginys, a fantastic creature who is said to wreak havoc in the woods. Will the two children manage to survive on their own? A project by Albolina Film in co-production with Just a moment, with the development support of Creative Europe MEDIA & Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
EAVE project SOUVENIRS OF WAR is in post-production
In production
- MAMIFERA by Liliana Torres, producer: EAVE graduate Carla Sospedra is in production. MAMIFERA, which is the Spanish word for a female mammal, centres on an unwanted pregnancy. It focuses on Lola, who accidentally gets pregnant at a time when Spanish law required women to reflect for three days before proceeding to terminate a pregnancy. The law, dating from 2010, was rescinded in 2022. The feature spans three days in Lola’s life, supported by her partner. The film is produced by Miriam Porté at Distinto Films, the company behind Avelina Prat’s Vasil, and co-produced with Carla Sospedra’s Edna Cinema. Sospedra is a producer of Isabel Coixet’s documentary THE YELLOW CEILING. “I want to contribute to de-stigmatising non-motherhood by explaining some of the inner reasons that can lead to it. I would also like this project to serve as a mirror for other women who have decided not to be mothers and who feel alone and misunderstood,” Torres said. MAMIFERA is Torres’ first purely fiction feature with a professional cast. Her two previous titles were hybrid drama - documentaries.
- EAVE project MARIA’S SILENCE by Davis Simanis, producer: EAVE graduate Gints Grube, co-producer EAVE+ graduate Kestutis Drazdauskas is in production. The film tells the story of the Latvian-German silent film actress Maria Leiko. The film is a co-production between Latvian Mistrus Media, Lithuanian Broom Films and France’s Lilith Films. Supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre, Valsts kulturkapitala fonds.
- LARGO WINCH: THE PRICE OF MONEY by Olivier Masset-Depasse, producer: EAVE graduate Jacques-Henri Bronckart is in production. This cinematographic opus has been adapted from volumes 13 and 14 of the comic hit series The Price of Money, and The Law of the Dollar, which return to their comic book roots by dragging the hero into a complicated investigation against a backdrop of globalisation and other mergers and acquisitions, confronting him with his own contradictions. Devastated by the kidnapping of his 15-year-old son, Largo Winch is trying to hold it together when one of his associates brutally takes his own life in the middle of a press conference. Just as the world seems to be turning against him and his industrial empire folding, he discovers that the two events may be linked: if he finds those responsible for his bankruptcy, maybe he’ll see his son again? Largo doesn’t yet realise that his quest will lead him directly to hell. The film is carried by Belgian producer Jacques-Henri Bronckart on behalf of Versus Production and Nathalie Gastaldo Godeau for Pan-Européenne (France). Shooting kicked off on 6 February in Bulgaria.
- IRON BOX by Julia von Heinz, co-producer: EAVE graduate Agnieszka Wasiak is shooting. Heinz’ first primarily English-language film. Shooting begins on location this month for what’s described as a “multi-generational comedy”, where Stephen Fry and Lena Dunham will play a father and daughter who return to the former’s home of Poland, from where he escaped the Holocaust. A co-production between Germany, the USA, Poland and France, the film will be produced by von Heinz and Fabian Gasmia for Seven Elephants and Dunham herself for Good Thing Going. Further producers are Kings & Queen, Lava Films and Haïku Films. Additional financing comes from national media institutions such as Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the CNC. Adapted from Australian writer Lily Brett’s novel Too Many Men and set in the mid-1990s, the plot finds the two main characters, Ruth and Edek, with opposing motivations as they decamp to Poland. The former wants to explore her family history in more depth, whilst Edek has his own particular agenda, one “filled with distraction and entertainment”. This is all set against the backdrop of a country itself in transition, shaking off its socialist past. The story also evokes the director’s prior film, which saw a young German woman travelling to Israel, where she discovers much about her grandparents’ experience in World War II.
In post-production
- EAVE project SOUVENIRS OF WAR by Georg Zeller, producer: EAVE graduate Moritz Bonatti is in post-production. A generation after the official end of the conflict in Bosnia, SOUVENIRS OF WAR explores how three men search in touristic activities for a way to catharsis. For Muhamed, the encounters with his guests in Srebrenica are moments of relief in the enduring tensions between survivors and deniers of the genocide, Adnan, after two decades of hard-core reconciliation work, sees a chance for a lighter narrative in his new job as a „war-tour“ guide, whereas for Adis, his air-soft ground on authentic battlefields makes come true a childhood dream. Set in the romantic landscapes of the hidden gem of the Balkans and on the background of male friendships, paternity and masculine role models in a post-war society, the film is tragic and comic at once and reveals how human encounters may be the key to a peaceful future.
- THE OUTRUN by Nora Fingscheidt, co-producer: EAVE graduate, TTB group leader and German National Coordinator Jonas Weydemann is in post-production. Academy Award-nominee Saoirse Ronan is set to star in director Nora Fingscheidt’s adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir THE OUTRUN. Ronan stars as Rona who, fresh out of rehab, returns to the wild Orkney Islands after more than a decade away. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her childhood merge with the more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery. Fingscheidt’s debut feature SYSTEM CRASHER premiered at the 2019 Berlinale where it won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize. The film later won eight German Film Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay among many other international awards. THE OUTRUN has been developed by Sarah Brocklehurst’s Brock Media, which will produce the feature alongside Ronan, Jack Lowden and Dominic Norris under their recently founded banner, Arcade Pictures, and with Mogambo’s Ignacio Salazar-Simpson and Ricardo Marco. They are joined by co-producers Jonas Weydemann and Jakob D. Weydemann of Weydemann Bros. BBC Film and Screen Scotland supported the development of the project. Protagonist Pictures is executive producing and arranging the financing.
- SUNLIGHT by Claire Dix, producers: EAVE graduates Katie Holly and Lesley McKimm has finished post-production and will premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival in March. Described by the creative team as an “emotional, uplifting heart warmer”, the picture follows former addict Leon (Ward), who loves his best friend Iver (Carney) more than anything else in the world. Iver’s the reason he’s clean and romping about the place like a wild pinball. So when Iver gets a terminal diagnosis and decides to leave this Earth early, Leon’s not about to let him go without a fight, even if it means being a royal pain in the arse. He forces Iver to agree to one last day in Dublin, hoping to convince him to live. Will he succeed? The outcome knocks both of them off course: some things are so wrong they’re right… SUNLIGHT receives funding from Screen Ireland’s POV Female Creative Talent Scheme. It is being executive-produced by EAVE graduates Katie Holly and Yvonne Donohoe for Blinder Films, and Lesley McKimm and Niamh Fagan for Screen Ireland.

Obituary Amira Lekic
The EAVE family mourns the passing much too soon of producer Amira Lekic, member of the EAVE network since 2011.
Amira Lekić was born in Woodstock, Canada in 1975 and received a BA in International Relations from the University of Windsor.
In 1999, Lekić moved to Sarajevo to work for international development organisations such as Save the Children.
In 2007, she moved to Sarajevo-based independent production house Deblokada, where she worked as an executive producer on Andrea Štaka's CURE - THE LIFE OF ANOTHER and Jasmila Žbanić's FOR THOSE WHO CAN TELL NO TALES and LOVE ISLAND.
Lekić began working as an independent executive producer and production manager in 2015, and has since worked on numerous SCCA/pro.ba and Deblokada projects, including Danis Tanović's DEATH IN SARAJEVO and Alen Drljević's MEN DO NOT CRY, as well as projects by other production companies in Croatia and in Slovenia.
Amira also worked on the production of the film QUO VADIS, AIDA? by Jasmile Žbanić, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Film.
She was executive producer of the EAVE project THE WHITE FORTRESS (TABIJA) by Igor Drljaca.
She was a long-time member of the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and of EAVE.
Those who were lucky enough to meet Amira and work with her, will never forget her positive energy, humour and warmth.
Our sincere condolences go out to Amira's family, friends and colleagues. We will miss you dearly!

Happy Anniversary EAVE! Interview with EAVE CEO Kristina Trapp about EAVE’s Core Values and strategic goals
EAVE is releasing a new trailer of its renowned PRODUCERS WORKSHOP right when entering the year of its 35th anniversary.
The EAVE Producers Workshop is a year-long training programme for audiovisual producers from across Europe and beyond, funded by Creative Europe - MEDIA, a sub-programme of the European Union, as well as the Film Fund Luxembourg. As an organisation, EAVE offers a range of other activities and workshops outside of its core programme.
EAVE’s Chief Executive Kristina Trapp shares her thoughts on this occasion.
EAVE has announced its Core Values in 2021. Why was it important to make a statement about these values, after over 30 years in the industry?
There has always been a special ‘philosophy’ and spirit at EAVE, which makes EAVE so unique and which is commonly shared by our team and experts since its inception. When welcoming new experts or guests to the programme, we realized how special and rare this atmosphere of generosity really is and that many professionals in this industry are not used to this kind of honesty, openness and solidarity, while it is really important to us.
That is why we felt the need to put our values on paper, to formulate them and for that matter also to rethink, question and sharpen our strategy and priorities.
In a way, the pandemic has accelerated this evolution… It was in general a moment in time when everyone was rethinking and questioning their professional and personal choices and practices. At the same time, I felt that EAVE needed to clearly define and continue to push our core values to make them a reality, whether it was in terms of our environmental policy, work-life balance or equality and inclusion - all major priorities for EAVE.
How do these values manifest themselves in EAVE’s programmes?
For our producers, EAVE is more than just a programme, it is a place, a ‘safe space’ that we create, where they can open up to think about their careers and projects. This protected space is the foundation for creativity and a deeper connection. Very often participants say: “I came to EAVE”, as if they referred to a place, not only a training programme.
The whole group work method is based on sharing and horizontal peer-to-peer learning from fellow professionals all over the world. The premise is that the group of participants is as diverse as possible – not only in terms of gender, age, geographical spread, ethnicity, socio-economic background, but also in terms of company set-ups, business models, project formats or genre.
This is also how they can build a professional support network based on trust, solidarity, mutual respect, inclusion and sharing – probably the main asset people get out of EAVE.
And these are not just words…
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it became visible how strong this EAVE support network really is and how effective – EAVE graduates from all over the world were actively supporting Ukraine, hosting families, donating money, offering jobs to Ukrainian professionals and organising supplies, communication and concrete help and support in all aspects of daily life and far beyond film production. It was incredible.

What impact is EAVE having on the industry and can you give some practical examples?
What we want to achieve with EAVE is to have an impact towards a more conscious, engaged and sustainable industry by promoting inclusion, diversity, gender equality, green agendas and healthier, more sustainable work environments, as well as setting a new positive standard in the European industry through our own example.
Specifically, for example, at EAVE we have implemented a comprehensive green policy in all areas of our operations by reducing travel, using public transport and trains wherever possible, drastically reducing meat consumption at our events, offering local and seasonal food, reducing waste, recycling, stopping printing and using online elements.
For example, we inspired partner hotels to set up a recycling system for us, which they didn’t have in place before and which they decided to keep after the workshop.
We also created a guide for ‘healthy vegan dishes” to be used by our partner hotels that has been a real inspiration for these conference hotels and they have also made a lot of progress on how to reduce food waste at buffets and coffee breaks by fine-tuning quantities based on consumption in previous days.
As you can see, we have been successful in influencing the hotels’ thinking and they have been inspired to rethink how they operate. At the same time, with each hotel, we are learning how to better guide them ourselves.
We have also partnered with TorinoFilmLab for the Green Film Lab, a series of workshops focusing on sustainable production.
Specifically on the topic of mental health and work-life balance, we have been incorporating morning yoga sessions into our workshops since 2009. Our yoga instructor and EAVE coordinator Tanika Sajatovic also offers online yoga to our graduates throughout the year at a special rate.
We have trained therapists among our experts and offer optional sessions on mindfulness and stress reduction. Moreover, we organise childcare during the workshops to ensure a very family-friendly environment. Our participants and experts are always very grateful for such options. We have also partnered up with Red Balloon Alliance, which offers childcare at major film festivals in Europe!

EAVE is rapidly expanding and is training various underrepresented communities through EAVE on Demand workshops. Is this part of the implementation of the core values?
Yes, indeed. A good example of a tailor-made EAVE programme for underrepresented communities is our ACCESS programme in Canada for producers who identify as Black, Indigenous or People of Colour, organised together with the National Screen Institute - Canada (NSI) and with support from the Canada Media Fund (CMF)or the EAVE ON DEMAND workshops for Sami indigenous producers in cooperation with the Sami International Film Institute. Our programme CHANGE has a powerful impact on especially female documentary producers in the Eastern Partnership countries.
Looking at the European film industry, it is shocking to see how ‘white’ and not representative of the world we live in this industry is – despite the fact that it claims to be inclusive - especially when it comes to power positions and decision making.
At EAVE, it is one of our priorities to actively contribute to change, which is why EAVE’s diversity strategy with concrete actions is so important - for us as an organization and for me personally.
We would like our producers to be agents of change, active parts of shaping the industry of today and tomorrow and we have the same goal for EAVE as an organization as we acknowledge our role of EAVE in setting positive industry standards. This includes for us an ‘ethical’ approach to producing.
Why do you think it’s important to talk about diversity in the film industry in general?
Storytelling plays a huge role in how we understand and shape our culture. Film is certainly one of the most impactful creative mediums and should reflect – in front of and behind the camera – the world we live in. However, if we look at the film industry especially in Europe, and especially at positions of power and decision-making, as well as where the money goes, we can see that our industry is much less diverse and inclusive than it claims to be. This needs to change and EAVE is committed to be an active part of this change.
What does diversity and inclusion mean when it comes to EAVE workshops and how can EAVE take its diversity strategy to the next level?
Diversity is the guiding principle when it comes to our selection of participants. We believe that the more diverse the group of participants at EAVE is, the more inspiring the experience actually is for everyone.
We have seen with the success of our green policy how impactful and important it is to actually formulate a clear strategy with concrete and meaningful actions and a long-term strategic plan and how it helps to get everyone on board on all levels – staff, experts, board, participants, and providers.
EAVE's long-term diversity strategy that we are working on with EAVE alumna Tamara Dawit (VP growth & inclusion, Canada Media Fund) includes for example anti-racism training for the EAVE board, staff and trainers; diversifying the pool of consultants; out-reach to BIPOC organizations; sessions on ethical production; focus groups and surveys among BIPOC alumni; measures to improve accessibility for disabled professionals at EAVE workshops and very recently an EAVE IMPACT Think Tank this January at WEMW in Trieste on « creating safe spaces for professional training and positive inclusion standards for the industry » the results of which we will soon share. We are also happy to announce that diversity scholarships have been created for EAVE Producers Workshop, EAVE+ and EAVE Marketing Workshop specifically targeting European residents and citizens who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour.
There’s still a lot of work ahead of us, but it is a great opportunity for everyone!
What is in the crystal globe for EAVE? How do you see the future?
I am very much looking forward to welcoming the latest 'cohort' of producers and professionals of the EAVE Producers Workshop 2023 that we had to chose out of over 260 applications from all over the world. It wasn’t an easy selection with so many strong, inspiring, talented candidates.
And I am also looking forward to welcoming some new consultants to our expert pool that we are continuously enlarging and diversifying.
One thing I know for sure is that the future with EAVE will never be boring: there are exciting new partnerships on the horizon and we are always trying to improve what we do and evolve as an organisation.
