It seems to have grown with him, it’s splitting open all over, the seams are giving under his weight, his skin is necrosed and purplish. Jill wants him to take it off, but Lucas stubbornly and violently refuses. The woman finds herself cornered; if a solution isn’t found, she risks losing her brother forever.

  • OLD TIMERS by Martin Dusek, producer: EAVE graduate Jiri Konecny is in developemt. The film follows two former political prisoners who set off across the country in a camper van in order to seek out and kill a once-feared communist prosecutor from the 1950s, who was never officially sanctioned for his actions. Martin Dusek and Ondrej Provaznik are co-writing and co-directing. According to the filmmakers, the film will show the contrast between what the characters see as urgent and the contemporary life, which in a certain sense is indifferent to their the traumas and their efforts to relieve them. Instead of action heroes, we have old-timers who are limited in many ways – by age, health, and in the case of the protagonist, by many years of exile. Development is supported by the Czech State Cinematography Fund. Principal photography is planned from April to June 2018.

Call for applications: EAVE Producers Workshop 2018

EAVE is aimed at producers, both fiction and documentary, who are already working in the film and television industries who wish to begin to operate on a European wide basis by increasing their knowledge of producing and co-producing in Europe and by building up a pan European professional network. We also welcome applications from associated branches of the industry – e.g. commissioning, funding, legal and finance, festivals & markets, media administration. Each year fifty participants are selected from most of the EU countries and beyond and take part in three one-week long workshops.

During the first two workshops, participants work within groups led by experienced producers and with several experts on script analysis, development and production financing, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching, packaging and more. In the third workshop 50-60 Decision Makers (commissioning editors, national and regional media funds, sales agents, etc.) join the participants to discuss the projects, companies and careers of the participants, a process which offers unusual access to Europe's Decision Makers.

Berlinale Co-Production Market: Submit Feature Film and Series

Projects Now and Find International Partners

Until October 11, experienced producers from around the world may submit new feature-length film projects in need of co-producers to the 15th  Berlinale  Co-Production  Market  (February  18  –  21,  2018). The project budget should be between one and 20 million euros, and at least 30% of the financing or local production support should already be in place.

Projects from countries with difficult conditions, where projects are produced with smaller average budgets, are subject to a lower budget rule in order to facilitate easier access to the international market. Once again this year, producers from regions supported by the World Cinema Fund - Latin America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and the Caucasus - may submit projects with budgets of approximately 750,000 euros or more. This exception also applies to feature-length projects from Greece, Spain, Portugal and Southeast Europe.

In addition, three promising new “Berlinale Directors” projects will be included in the selection - these are projects by directors who have had films presented at the Berlinale in previous years. These projects also do not need to have the full 30% financing in place to submit, and so can begin finding partners early in their development.

By late December, approximately 25 feature film projects will have been selected from all submissions to the Berlinale Co-Production Market. Another ten projects will be presented at the “Talent Project Market” in cooperation with Berlinale Talents - the submission deadline for this programme is September 4.

The Berlinale Co-Production Market team creates a tailored meeting schedule  for  each  selected  project.  Around  1,300  individually  pre- planned one-on-one meetings with interested potential co-producers, financiers, sales agents, distributors, TV channels and other supporters take place during the market. Producers and financiers looking for co- production projects can apply for participation in November 2017.

In addition to the feature-length film projects, a number of international companies without projects will also be introduced at the Berlinale Co- Production Market “Company Matching” programme. At the pitching events “CoPro Series” and “Books at Berlinale”, participants once again have the opportunity to discover new series projects and novel material for the screen.
