DEUX is shooting

DE NOS FRÈRES BLESSÉS by Hélier Cisterne, co-producer: EAVE+ graduate Jean-Yves Roubin is shooting.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Joseph Andras the screenplay dives into the heart of a couple's memories, a story of love and commitment. Fernand Iveton is arrested in his factory in 1956, in Algiers, accused of planting a bomb. Helene’s life, who is now the wife of a "traitor," is turned upside down. But she refuses to abandon Fernand to his fate. Produced Les Films du Bélier, the film was co-produced by France 3 Cinéma, the Belgian outfit Frakas Productions and the Algerian company Laïth Media. Pre-purchased by France 3, Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film has also received an advance on earnings from the CNC, as well as support from the South (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) and Ile-de-France regions, Sofica Cinéventure, Manon and Cinémage. Nine weeks of filming will take place in Paris, Algiers and Marseille.

LES CHÂTELAIS by Véro Cratzborn, producer: EAVE graduate Isabelle Truc is in production.

The film follows the strange journey of 15 years old Gina. She lives in a city on the edge of the forest. She admires her father, unpredictable and whimsical, able to take his children into the woods at night, even if it means forgetting them. Jimmy's more and more frequent misdemeanours end up alarming his wife Carole. Their fragile family balance is soon broken when Jimmy is interned in a psychiatric hospital. When Gina meets Nico, a boy from her neighbourhood, she discovers love and sees a way of escaping her father. The feature is produced by Iota Production, Blue Monday Productions and Louise Productions. Filming will take place in Montigny-le-Tilleul in the region of Charleroi and near Lille.

BLACK GARDEN, BLUE SKIES by Nora Martirosyan, producer: EAVE graduate Annabella Nezri is shooting.

The story revolves around Alain, a French international auditor, who comes to assess the airport of a self-proclaimed republic in the Caucasus in order to give the green light for its reopening. A little boy from the local area, Edgar, roams around the airport, seemingly engaged in some bizarre transactions. The man and the child eventually cross paths. Produced by the French Sister Productions and co-produced by Armenia’s Aneva Production and Belgium’s Kwassa Films, the film has been pre-purchased by TV5 Monde and received backing from the CNC’s advance on receipts, Eurimages, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the Wallonia-Brussels fund, the Occitanie region, the Procirep, the Hubert Bals Fund and KinoKentron (the Armenian national film centre). The movie has also received support from the Villa Medici, the Jerusalem Filmlab, Open Doors Locarno, the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation Atelier and the Angers Workshops. In addition to winning the Best Screenplay Award at the Amiens Film Festival and the Beaumarchais Award at Cinemed in Montpellier, BLACK GARDEN, BLUE SKIES has also secured a grant from the Institut français. The six-and-a-half-week shoot in the Caucasus will wrap on 3 October.

DEUX by Filippo Meneghetti, co-producers: EAVE graduates Elise André and Donnato Rotunno is in production.

The story evolves around Nina and Madeleine, two pensioners who are head over heels in love with each other. As far as everyone else is concerned, they are merely neighbours. Every day, they come and go between the two flats that they occupy on the top floor of their building. Their landing serves as a gateway between two worlds: the well-ordered life of one of the women, a grandmother mindful of conventions, and the more free-spirited life of the other. Nina, an uprooted Austrian, is an independent woman who seems to be coping less and less well every day with this love confined to the shadows. One day, something tragic happens, and the doors close once again. Produced by Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin and Laurent Baujard for Paprika Films together with Tarantula Luxembourg and Belgium’s Artémis Productions, DEUX has secured a pre-purchase from Be TV and backing from the CNC’s advance on receipts, the Film Fund Luxembourg, the Occitanie region and the Soficinéma Sofica. The seven-week shoot will kick off in Montpellier and Sommières from 1-10 October before continuing in Luxembourg.

The plot: Croatia, seven years after the country declared bankruptcy. The small group of the rich is even richer, and the poor are even poorer, but a more important battle is waged around the world – water has become more precious than oil, and power and authority depend upon the number of water sources and water availability. In order to get water, the world power-wielders stop at nothing: they declare wars, destroy, conquer – and even slip in the zombie virus! The Croatian/Serbian zombie comedy is produced by Kinorama in co-production with Art & Popcorn. The project is supported by both the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) and Film Center Serbia (FCS). Shooting took place on location in Zagreb and its surroundings in the summer of 2018.

Berlinale Co-Production Market 2019

Call for Entries until October 10, 2018

Until October 10, experienced producers from around the world may submit new feature-length film projects in need of co-producers and financiers to the 16th Berlinale Co-Production Market (February 9 – 13, 2019).

Producers from Latin and Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, the Caucasus, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Southeastern Europe are also encouraged to submit their lower-budget projects.

Once again in 2019, three promising new “Berlinale Directors” projects will be chosen. This is a selection of a few new projects by directors who have had films presented at the Berlinale in previous years.

By the end of this year approximately 25 feature film projects will have been selected from all submissions to the Berlinale Co-Production Market.

Another ten projects will be presented at the “Talent Project Market” in cooperation with Berlinale Talents. The “Talent Project Market” is open to producers who are in the first ten years of their career, and the submission deadline for all Berlinale Talents programmes is September 3.

Around 1,300 individually pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings with interested potential co-producers, financiers, global and national distributors, TV channels and other supporters take place during the market. Producers and financiers looking for co-production projects can apply for participation starting in November 2018.

In addition to the feature-length film projects, once again five particularly exciting international companies without projects will also be introduced at the Berlinale Co-Production Market “Company Matchings”. At the pitching events “Co-Pro Series” and “Books at Berlinale”, participants will again have the opportunity to discover new series projects and literary fiction material for the screen.

Producers with drama series projects from around the world seeking international co-production partners in Berlin are invited to submit those projects for participation in the much sought-after “Co-Pro Series” event by October 22. In addition to the series pitch, the Berlinale Co-Production Market team also organises meetings with potential partners for their producers as part of “Co-Pro Series”. The event is part of the “Drama Series Days” programme, a cooperative initiative by the European Film Market, Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents.
