Running sustainable film companies in challenging times: EAVE+ in Luxembourg!
The 13th edition of EAVE+ takes place from March 31 – April 5, 2023 at Hotel Mama Shelter in Luxembourg. The workshop will gather 14 experienced producers from 7 countries and 7 seasoned industry professionals to discuss the structure of their companies, best management practices and new business models.
Thanks to a new partnership with Canada Media Fund, Tanya Brunel and Jeremy Torrie (White Bear Films, Canada) have been selected to participate with a special scholarship for companies owned by persons from Racialized or Indigenous communities.
In the framework of our ongoing partnership with CineLink, Vasilis Chrysanthopoulos (plays2place productions, Greece) and Oana Maria Giurgiu (Libra Film Productions, Romania) have been selected from two previous editions of CineLink to participate with a dedicated scholarship.
The scholarship provided by our partner organisation SODEC has made it possible for Jeanne-Marie Poulain (art et essai, Canada) to join the workshop.
See complete list of participants below.
In tailor-made session according to the participants’ needs and profiles, EAVE+ will tackle the most pressing issues for producers who want to run a sustainable company: Transformational processes in film companies, diversification, new business models and company constellations, which we will explore via a series of inspiring company case studies by Frederic Fiore (Logical Pictures, FR), Petri Kemppinen (Aurora Studios, FI) and Miira Paasilinna (Anagram Sweden, SE).
The workshop will tackle the business requirements of running a sustainable film company and also address the challenges related to working with streamers, mergers and acquisitions, dealing with banks and working with equity.
Marc Bordure (FR), General and Financial CFO of the French production company AGAT FILMS & Cie / Ex Nihilo, will explore questions related to company finance. Sophie Erbs (Gaïjin, FR) will analyse together with the participants their company business plans and strategies.
Management coach Michael Comyn (Fearless Organization, IE) will work with the producers in individual meetings on leadership and management skills.
EAVE+ Head of Studies Jani Thiltges (Samsa Film, LU), will lead group discussions analysing in depth the individual company cases of the selected participants.
Additionally, participants will be able to go into more detail into the topics which are most urgent and most important to them and to their particular companies, during one-to-one meetings with the EAVE+ pedagogical team and with each other.
“EAVE + was a very interesting and fun experience to have. We could brainstorm and think "out of the box" with a great team of producers and experts and come back to the office with very specific plans to "rebuild" Fasten Films. Do not miss it.”
Adria Mones, Fasten Films, Spain, EAVE+ 2022
EAVE+ takes place once a year in Luxembourg with different experts and curates the most urgent, contemporary topics for each session according to industry needs.
EAVE+ is supported by the Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme of the European Union and Film Fund Luxembourg.

- NORTHERN LIGHTS, written by Stephen Jones and directed by Tom Hall, Ruth Meehan and Anthony Schatteman, co-producer: EAVE graduate Peter de Maegd is currently in post-production. The 6x52-minute series is based on a stage play of the same name written by Jones and directed by Karl Shiels. Shot in English in both Ireland and Belgium, NORTHERN LIGHTS tells the story of two grieving strangers, Lloyd and Áine, whose worlds collide when Lloyd notices Áine standing on Grattan bridge, completely soaked, for far longer than seems normal. Fearing the worst and based on a past experience, he decides to intervene. A series of revelations, confessions, secrets and lies follow as we delve into these extraordinary ordinary Dublin lives. As Lloyd and Áine's friendship develops, the story also deals with the stories of their respective partners, Denise and Seań. By following the journeys of these various relationships, we begin to understand what led our two protagonists to the place they are now (both physically and emotionally). Jumping back and forth in time between the present and the past, it soon becomes apparent that both characters are dealing with major grief and tragedy in their lives. NORTHERN LIGHTS is being produced by Ireland’s Deadpan Pictures and co-produced by Belgium’s Potemkino. It has received backing from Lionsgate, TG4, ZDFNeo, Streamz, Screen Ireland, Screen Flanders, Creative Europe - MEDIA, VAF Mediafonds, and the tax credits in both Ireland and Belgium.
- ROME by Niclas Bendixen, co-producer: Interchange graduate Marta Donzelli is in post-production. The film is a life-affirming romantic drama about Gerda and Kristoffer, who arrive in the Italian capital on an extended weekend trip to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Together, they relive the city where Gerda used to study art when she was young. But the trip doesn’t go quite as planned, as the couple meet Gerda’s charismatic art teacher and former flame Johannes. Kristoffer ends up on the sidelines, while Gerda chases her youth in the streets and alleys of Rome to confront the ghosts of the past. ROME is being produced by Andreas Hjortdal and Jesper Morthorst for Denmark’s Motor, in co-production with Italy’s Vivo Film and Sweden’s GimmeABreak, with co-financing from TV2 Denmark and SVT. It has also received backing from the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute and Eurimages.
- LA ABADESA by Antonio Chavarrias, co-producer: EAVE graduate Hubert Toint is in post-production. With this film, the director, producer and screenwriter explores the most human and personal side of a historical character, Emma, a young woman who decides to reclaim her power in order to confront a patriarchal and dominant world in a society that relegates women to a socially secondary role with no substance. It takes place in a dark and violent era, where a 17-year-old girl is appointed abbess and given the task of repopulating and Christianising territories on the border and at war with Islam. In the words of its director, the story “gives us more insight into an almost unknown era, very hard and full of contradictions, to focus on the confrontation of three different, complex and antagonistic female worlds, those of Emma, Eloísa and Clara, united only by their condition as women in a world that denies them any of their rights." LA ABADESA is a production from the Spanish companies Oberon Cinematográfica, Wanda Visión, the Belgium company Saga Films and Icono 2020 AIE, with the participation of RTVE and TV3.
- ONE-DIMENSIONAL MAN by Andres Puustusmaa, co-producer: EAVE FFF graduate Roberts Vinovskis is currently in post-production. The story: Raul's father Viktor, a Soviet-era Estonian militia officer, shaped his son with communist ideology. Raul was raised in a violent and pathological attitude of the despotic father, blindly driven by the ideology. Driven by his jealousy of his wife and her bohemian lifestyle, Viktor, being a high-ranking KGB officer, stated her as a predator against the Soviet nation, and one early morning she is taken by KGB agents to an unknown destination. The film is produced by Katerina Monastyrskaya through Estonian Leo Films and co-produced by Roberts Vinovskis through Latvian Studio Locomotive. The project received support from the Estonian Film Institute. The Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) are also supporting. The principal photography took place in October and November 2022. The film was entirely shot in Tallinn.
