ALCARRAS by Carla Simon, producer: EAVE graduate and Spanish National Coordinator Maria Zamora receives support from Spain’s ICAA – Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute. The film tells the story of the large Solé family, who harvest a great expanse of land full of peach trees. One day, they wake up to some bad news: the owner of the land they have been cultivating for generations has recently died. RAIN ON TWO SIDES now in production
WISE BLOOD by Bouli Lanners and Tim Mielants, producer: EAVE graduate Jacques-Henri Bronckart is in production. The film is a passionate love story set in the heart of the Presbyterian community and the spectacular and unforgiving landscapes of the Isle of Lewis, off Scotland’s north-western coast. Phil, a stout 55-year-old Belgian man, lives and works on the Isle of Lewis, the northernmost island of the Outer Hebrides, northwest of Scotland. One evening, he suffers a stroke and loses his memory. Millie, also aged 55, whom Phil works for and who is a member of the small Presbyterian community on the island, has to take care of him. She ends up confessing to him that they were secretly lovers. Rediscovering the passion that used to exist between them, Phil and Millie once again become lovers on the sly. While Phil blissfully explores this new love affair and resumes his day-to-day life as a farmhand, Millie dreads the moment when his memory will come back to him and he will find out that she has been lying to him. The film is being produced by Versus Productions and being co-produced by Barry Crerar (Scotland) and Playtime (France).

LE COEUR NOIR DES FÔRETS by Serge Mirzabekiantz, producer: PUENTES graduate Anthony Rey is shooting in the Burgundy and the Brussels region. The film follows the meanderings of 15-year-old Nikolaï who spends his life passed between care homes and foster families. Alone and haunted by the reasons for his abandonment, he dreams of starting a family of his own. When the intriguing and outspoken 16-year-old Camille turns up at his care home, Nikolaï convinces her to leave and to live with him in the forest. Produced by Hélicotronc, the film is co-produced in France by Sacrebleu.

POWER by Matyas Prikler, co-producer: EAVE graduate Viktoria Petranyi is shooting. The film tells the story of a well-established politician who gets involved in an accident resulting in the death of an innocent person. The consequent efforts to investigate and, above all, to cover up traces leading to this precarious incident, expose the hidden machinery of political power in contemporary democracies. The film brings up questions about the true identities of important political figures and reveals stories hidden behind their public masks. The producers have already secured the entire budget. The Slovak Audiovisual Fund supported the project. The film was also supported by Kultminor, the Hungarian National Film Fund, the Czech Film Fund and Creative Europe. „Forty shooting days are planned from November 2019 until February 2020. Locations include Budapest and different parts of Slovakia: Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and the Gemer region“, Prikler told FNE.

RAIN ON TWO SIDES by Zaza Khalvashi, co-producer: EAVE graduate Ieva Norviliene is shooting. The film tells a story of a 15-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman, who are neighbours sharing the same courtyard. The boy loves the young woman and spares no effort to deserve her attention. His feelings meet many obstacles, sometimes awkward, sometimes tragic, sometimes comic and most often tragic-comic. The story is set in a seaside town, in a typical Italian-style courtyard, where people of different nationalities and beliefs live together and spend their entire free time playing lotto, and where neighbours are more curious to know each others’ lives than their own. The film is a Georgian/Lithuanian coproduction produced by Batumi Art-house Film Independent Studio through the involvement of Sulkhan Turmanidze, in co-production with Ieva Norviliene through Tremora. The project received co-production funding from the Georgian National Film Centre and film production development funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara, Georgia.
HOME now in post-production
HOME by Franka Potente, producer: EAVE graduate Jonas Katzenstein, co-producer: Léontine Petit is in post-production. The film tells the story of 40-year-old Marvin Hacks, who comes back to his small Californian hometown after more than 20 years in prison, only to find out that his mother is terminally ill and that the locals have not forgotten the atrocity he committed. Despite the hostility of the people, Marvin tries to reclaim his place in society. He also takes a liking to a young woman, unaware that she is part of the family of the person he killed. Home is being produced by German outfit augenschein Filmproduktion in co-production with the Netherlands’ Lemming Film and US firm Fireglory Pictures.
www.augenschein-filmproduktion.de
SHORTA by Frederik Louis Hviid and Anders Ølholm, producer: EAVE graduate Signe Leick Jensen is in post-production. The story, written in its entirety by the young duo, centres on Talib Ben Hassi, a 19-year-old boy whose life hangs by a thread. The exact details of what took place while he was in police custody remain unclear. Police officers Jens and Mike are on routine patrol in the local ghetto when news of Talib’s death comes in over the radio, igniting uncontrollable, pent-up rage in the ghetto’s youth, who want revenge. Suddenly, the two officers find themselves fair game and must fight tooth and nail to find a way out. SHORTA is being produced by Signe Leick Jensen and Morten Kaufmann for Copenhagen-based outfit Toolbox Film. The feature has also received backing from the Danish Film Institute and will be ready for theatrical release in October next year.

EAVE Producers Workshop culminates in Leipzig
The EAVE 2019 Producers Workshop’s third and final session in Leipzig, Germany (October 28 – November 4), is organized in collaboration with DOK Leipzig and in partnership with MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.
78 leading international decision makers (complete list below) will meet the 51 top producing talents from 29 countries and discover the 29 fiction and documentary projects developed during this year’s EAVE Producers’ Workshop, as well as 2 guest projects from EAVE’s international programmes Puentes and Ties That Bind.
The week features two special events:

EAVE Marketing Workshop coming up in November!
EAVE offers a tailor-made Marketing Workshop (Luxembourg, November 5-10) embracing the importance of marketing techniques and Audience-centered strategies. Co-Heads of Studies Alya Belgaroui-Degalet and Sarah Calderón have designed a unique programme where participants are collectively working on the group’s projects more than half of the time. Inspired by the EAVE sharing pedagogy, Design Thinking techniques and visual, tangible and ludic exercises, the sessions are equally creative, innovative and strategic. The result is a hands-on approach with concrete tools that anyone can apply immediately within their own team in today’s and tomorrow’s industry. This casual way of learning facilitates network and community building across countries from all over the world.
The workshop is targeted at producers as well as professionals working in sales, distribution and marketing departments. We also welcome applications from related areas of the industry (e.g. regional and national funding institutions, film festivals and markets etc.) and from relevant trainers and consultants who want to innovate in their marketing techniques. The two groups that will be working during the entire workshop are balanced in terms of all the above-mentioned trades of the film industry in order to nourish as much as possible the different perspectives.
Among previous year's Marketing Workshop projects:
DISCO by Jorunn Myklebust Syversen, producer: Maria Ekerhovd (Marketing Workshop graduate developing the project: Oistein Refseth) has been selected for Toronto International Film Festival and San Sebastian Film Festival 2019. Sales has been picked up by Warsaw based New Europe Film Sales.
WHITE ON WHITE by Theo Court, producer: PUENTES graduates Giancarlo Nasi and Eva Chillón (Marketing Workshop graduate developing the project: Luis Renart) has been selected for Venice Film Festival 2019.
DICKTATORSHIP by Gustav Hofer, Luca Ragazzi, producer: Marketing Workshop graduate Alessandra Principini had its world premiere at Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival 2019.
