YEAR OF THE WIDOW by Veronika Liskova is in production

In production

  • COME BACK by Jan and Raf Roosens, co-producers: EAVE graduates Jacques-Henri Bronckart, Ellen Havenith is in production. The coming-of-age tale centers on the character of Ava, a young woman of 14 who is attempting to find where she belongs in the world. She is "bedazzled" by the spotlight trained on her parents, a couple of DJs who have had their moment of glory. Now they are divorced, and Ava lives alone with her father. When her mum, Naomi, tries to make a comeback on the international DJing scene, Ava will discover a new world – that of nightlife and clubs. But while her mother is in her element, things are more complicated for Ava, who will have to adapt if she wants to avoid losing her own identity. The movie is being produced by Bart Van Langendonck for Savage Film, and co-produced by Jacques-Henri Bronckart for Versus Productions (Belgium), as well as by Rococo, the directors’ own outfit, and Ellen Havenith for PRPL (Netherlands). It has received backing from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, screen.brussels, the Tax Shelter and Shelter Prod, as well as from Antwerp Film Bonus and the Netherlands Film Fund.

  • YEAR OF THE WIDOW by Veronika Liskova, producers: EAVE graduates Miljenka Cogelja, Tomas Michalek is in production. Stemming from a diary-esque article by Zuzana Pokorna, the narrative intimately charts her initial twelve months of widowhood. YEAR OF THE WIDOW traces the journey of Petra, thrust into an unanticipated world of grief following the sudden loss of her partner. More than grappling with her personal anxiety, she must contend with a labyrinth of bureaucratic hurdles reminiscent of a Kafkaesque nightmare. Presented from Petra’s perspective, the film explores the immediate emotional aftermath of loss, further complicated by the maze of social norms and legal proceedings she must traverse. Thus, the psychological drama morphs into a poignant societal commentary on grief, survival, and death in today’s world. The film captures the transformative narrative of a young widow reconstructing her life after the death of her partner and discovering newfound independence. Year of the Widow is produced by Kristyna Michalek Kvetova and EAVE graduate Tomas Michalek from the Czech outfit Cinémotif Films, Peter Kerekes and Anna Mach Rumanova of Kerekesfilm (Slovakia) and EAVE graduate Croatian producer Miljenka Cogelja of Pipser. The Czech Film Fund, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, as well as the Czech regions of Pilsen and Usti, supported the film.

  • KLAUS AND BARROSO by Bogdan Theodor Olteanu, producer: EAVE graduate Anda Ionescu is in production. The script written by Adrian Nicolae, Cosmin „Micutzu” Nedelcu and Bogdan Theodor Olteanu follows a bartender who, being forced to urgently return some money, convinces his bodyguard brother to organise a bachelor party without his bosses’ permission. Bold Film Studio is producing in co-production with Romanian companies Grupa B, Tangaj Production and Avanpost Media. The film is an independent project supported by several companies: MediaCom, Mindshare, Wavemaker, Neumarkt, Pepsi, Lays, Dentsu Romania, Ursus, Caii de la Letea, Sameday and Presto.

In post-production

  • REINE MÈRE by Manele Libadi, co-producer: EAVE graduate Jean-Yves Roubin is in post-production. Blending social chronicle and bittersweet comedy, REINE MÈRE paints the portrait of a Tunisian family living in France in the early 1990s  and uses comedy to explore questions such as the search for identity, generational conflicts and latent racism in France. Penned by the director, the story revolves around Amel and his family who learn, one day, that their landlord wishes to take back his apartment within a few months’ time. As his eldest daughter Mouna starts to have visions of Charles Martel and their application for a new socially-funded home drags on, Amel has no other choice but to reinvent himself… REINE MÈRE is produced by Jean-Christophe Reymond on behalf of Kazak Productions, in co-production with Arte France Cinéma, and by Belgium’s Frakas Productions. Pre-purchased by Arte, Canal+, Amazon Prime Video, RTBF and Proximus, the feature film is likewise supported by the Ile-de-France and Grand Est regions (where the film was shot in its entirety, commencing 12 June), the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Extended deadline for applications: EAVE Producers Workshop 2024

EAVE, European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs, is one of the leading training and development providers for producers in Europe, renowned for its EAVE Producers Workshop.

The deadline to apply for the next edition has been extended until August 28th!

  Who is it for?

EAVE is aimed at producers (fiction, documentary and TV series), who are already working in the film and television industries who wish to expand their operation internationally by increasing their knowledge of producing and co-producing in Europe and by building up a pan European professional network. We also welcome applications from associated branches of the industry – e.g. commissioning, funding, legal and finance, festivals & markets, media administration. Each year fifty participants are selected from most of the EU countries and beyond and take part in three one-week long workshops.

Please check the section “Who should apply” for more detailed information.

  How does it work?

Half the participants attend the course with projects and it is an excellent means of development through intense focus on the project with colleagues and experts throughout the year. The other half come to EAVE in order to focus on developing their companies or careers. Most participants attending with a project also bring their writer for the first two weeks which enables producer and writer to benefit together from one-to-one sessions with script experts.

During the first two workshops, participants work within groups led by experienced producers and with several experts on script analysis, development and production financing, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching, packaging and more. In the third workshop some 50 Future Partners (commissioning editors, national and regional media funds, financiers, sales agents, etc.) join the participants to discuss the projects, companies and careers of the participants, a process which offers unusual access to Europe's Key Industry Players.

EAVE graduates join a unique network of active European producers which forms one of the backbones of the industry. Furthermore, EAVE participants and members benefit from our partnerships with the leading European film festivals and markets where EAVE facilitates graduate participation.

  Timeline

The interviews with a pre-selection of candidates will take place in autumn 2023 and the selection will be announced in December 2023. The 3 workshops take place in March 7-14, 2024 in Luxembourg (LU), June 2024 (exact dates and place TBC), and October 14-21, 2024 in Karlskrona (SE).

  EAVE MARKETING BUDDIES PROGRAMME

The EAVE Marketing Workshop participants are joined every year by selected graduates of the renowned EAVE Producers Workshop, who have trained over one year as specialized marketing professionals.

EAVE is a residential workshop programme with a strong focus on network building. Should local travel restrictions occur, alternative digital solutions will be proposed.

New partnership and special offer - Asian Project Market | Busan International Film Festival

Are you interested in CO-PRODUCING WITH ASIA?

We are happy to announce that thanks to the partnership between Asian Contents & Film Market, EAVE Ties That Bind and European Film Promotion, up to 4 EAVE European Alumni will be invited to join the 26th Asian Project Market in the framework of the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) of the Busan International Film Festival.

The invitations will be granted only to delegates looking to contribute to the selected projects of APM & Busan Story Market. These participants should be looking for new Asian film projects or original IPs to co-produce or co-finance and should not mainly aim to present their own projects in Busan.

Each producer will be able to scout the best new Asian projects in development at the APM, network with more than 2,000 film professionals from all over the world and attend festival screenings. The invitation by Asian Project Market covers 4 hotel nights (Oct. 7-11) plus a discounted accreditation for 150 US$.

The Asian Project Market (APM, October 7- 10) is a co-production platform that offers filmmakers of official APM projects the opportunity to meet international leading film professionals including financiers, co-producers, or sales agents. In 2022, 29 projects were presented in more than 705 scheduled meetings This year, APM will introduce 30 official projects – [See Full List of APM 2023].

Established in 2006, Asian Contents & Film Market (Oct. 7 – 10) serves as a total film market covering all stages of film industry from pre-production to film sales. Since 2022, ACFM has presented Busan Story Market as a marketplace for film and audiovisual adaptation of original IP ranging from literary books to webtoons, web novels, story, and more. This year, Busan Story Market will introduce about 60 original IPs as an official selection with powerful Korean and Asian IP holders.

During the four days of the APM, Asian Contents & Film Market and Busan Story Market, the invited EAVE producers will be able to join a programme curated by EAVE Ties That Bind including a series of plenary sessions and networking activities.

Through a special Ties That Bind booth, we will provide a hub for business meetings exclusively dedicated to the invited producers, who are actively looking for co-producing and co-financing partners from Asia.

On top of this, we offer a tailor-made programme of round tables involving international key decision makers attending the Asian Contents & Film Market.

If you are interested, please send your CV and statement of goal & purpose of your attendance in APM and Busan to apmguest@biff.kr before August 26th.
