VICTIM by Michal Blasko, producer: EAVE graduate Pavla Janouskova Kubeckova and Jakub Viktorin is in pre-production. Loosely based on real-life events, the film follows Irina, an immigrant living in the Czech Republic. After her son ends up in hospital, he tells Irina and the police that a group of Roma carried out the attack. As other people increasingly show solidarity for Irina, her son’s account of how events unfolded starts to fall apart. According to the filmmakers, the story captures the current social climate and demonstrates the power of prejudice. VICTIM is being produced by nutprodukcia (Slovakia) and nutprodukce (Czech Republic), and co-produced by ESSE Production House (Ukraine). Creative Europe MEDIA, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Czech Film Fund support the project. The producers are still looking for other co-production partners. Principal photography is planned to take place from the second half of October until mid-December. The project is set to be presented at the Cinéfondation Atelier 2019.
VICTIM`s producer Jakub Viktorin has been awarded a scholarship for EAVE Producers Workshop 2020. During the EAVE year, the producer will be focusing on the development of the project VICTIM.

COURTHOUSE by Chiara Bellosi, producer: EAVE graduate Carlo Cresto-Dina is in production. The drama film by the first-time director is being produced by tempesta and depicts a day in a civil justice case in a big Italian court. At the centre of the case is a hearing: in the dock are a young robber and a petrol pump attendant who reacted after the hold-up, opening fire and killing the former's very young accomplice. We see the whole ritual, gowns and all, and we hear the jargon. But we also see the things outside: the corridors, the offices, the daily comings and goings at the court, the noise, the chaos. Meanwhile, the families, children and wives of the accused, and those of the victims, wait outside. Carlo Cresto-Dina’s company is producing together with Rai Cinema, in co-production with Swiss outfit Cinedokké, with support from MiBAC – General Directorate for Cinema, the Piemonte Film TV Fund and the Torino Piemonte Film Commission.

HOMO by Igor Ivanov, co-producer: EAVE graduate Miroslav Mogorovic has started filming. A five-week shooting schedule is planned, including more than 20 locations in Skopje. Six entirely different stories about six characters from Skopje intertwine here and now. Through the labyrinth of the disintegrated society, their destinies change forever. Each story has a separate title according to the main character of the story, borrowed from the terminology used by philosophic anthropology, trying to define the specifics of humanity. Igor Ivanov wrote the script together with Saso Kokalanov. Tomi Salkovski is producing through Skopje Film Studio while Bulgaria’s Gala Film, the Belgrade-based Art & Popcorn, Slovenia’s Iridium Film and Kosovo’s Trigger are co-producing. The project is supported by the Macedonian Film Agency, the Bulgarian National Film Center, Film Center Serbia, as well as the Kosovo Cinematography Center and the Slovenian Film Centre.

TALES FROM THE PRISON CELL now in post-production

TALES FROM THE PRISON CELL by Abel Visky, producer: EAVE graduate Eszter Gyarfas is in post-production. The shoot for the creative documentary, which is the feature debut by the 31-year-old Romanian-born director, kicked off two years ago, and has just wrapped. The screenplay revolves around the relationship between fathers in prison and their children at home. In addition to the focus of presenting three incarcerated fathers, we gain an insight into the forever-altered lives of their families and children. As we become familiar with their daily lives, we witness the distance and even the closeness that grows between the inmates and their families. As a way of keeping contact, the inmates write fairy tales for their kids, which are then made into films with the children playing the lead roles. The stories convey messages that the fathers have come to see as basic truths during the course of their own lives and believe are important to pass on. Within these stories, in the freedom created by fiction, father and child can be united once again. Produced by EAVE graduate Eszter Gyarfas for Proton Cinema, the film is being co-produced by London-based outfit Taskovski Films (which will also take care of the international sales), Croatia’s Fade In and Hungary’s Arisona MPS, with backing from the Incubator programme of the Hungarian National Film Fund, the Croatian Film Fund (HAVC) and Creative Europe.

The first week of EAVE Producers Workshop’s 2019 edition wrapped up in Luxembourg!

In partnership with Film Fund Luxembourg, we were thrilled to welcome the selected 52 producers from 30 countries that have been chosen out of 180 applications to develop the 29 selected documentary, feature film and series projects and their entrepreneurial skills at the EAVE Producers Workshop 2019.
The first of 3 residential workshops took place from March 8–15 at the Légère Premium Hotel Luxembourg.

Some highlights of the week:
- Building Story Worlds: Using selected EAVE projects as case studies, Juan DiazB (Kosmology World Building Institute, DE) demonstrated how to build coherent story worlds when developing a film.
- Become a PMD/marketing expert: Sarah Calderon (The Film Agency, ES) runs a special ‘marketing incubator programme’ in the groups and over the whole year, offering an intense PMD marketing training in cooperation with the EAVE Marketing Workshop.
- Developing Documentaries: EAVE Head of Studies Lise Lense-Møller (Magic Hour Films, DK) devoted her plenary session to the specific questions and challenges related to the development of documentaries.

The participants started their EAVE journey under the guidance of EAVE Head of Studies Lise Lense-Møller (Magic Hour Films, DK), the four group leaders, Didar Domehri (Maneki Films - Full House, FR), Ankica Juric Tilic (Kinorama, HR), Titus Kreyenberg (unafilm, DE) and Riina Sildos (Amrion, EE); the script consultants Clare Downs (UK), Jacques Akchoti (FR), Martin Daniel (USA), TV series consultant Ossi Nishri (IL), and documentary expert Sylvia Stevens (Faction Films, UK).
They were joined by the EAVE specialized experts - for Pitching: Sibylle Kurz (DE), Finance and Company Planning: Linda Beath (Ideal Filmworks, IT), Marketing: Sarah Calderon (The Film Agency, ES) and Legal Issues: Katrine Schlüter Schierbeck (The Law Factory, DK), who shared their expertise in plenary and group work sessions as well as individual meetings.
We also offered the EAVE producers opportunities to network with Luxembourg professionals as well as members of Europa International during a mingling evening co-hosted by Luxembourg City Film Festival and Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Luxembourg.
All plenary sessions are open for interested local professionals.

EAVE expresses special gratitude for the support of Workshop 1 to: Film Fund Luxembourg; CREATIVE EUROPE Desk Luxembourg - MEDIA sub-programme; Légère Premium Hotel Luxembourg.

More and more Chinese filmmakers have turned their attention to the global market and at the same time more and more international ones are eager to explore the blooming Chinese market. As the opportunities for Sino-international collaboration continue to grow, one of the biggest challenges is still the built of trust and personal connections among producers.
For this reason, Bridging the Dragon together with the Marche du Film will host for the fourth consecutive year a Sino-International Company Meetings event. The aim is to match-make a number of selected international companies to Chinese counterparts according to their mutual focuses and goals.
The event will take place in the afternoon on Sunday, 19 May 2019 in Cannes.
The event is aimed at both international (non-Chinese) and Chinese producers with a proven interest in Sino-international collaboration. It would be an advantage to have a related project attached but it is not a must.

International producers please fill in the e-form at http://bit.ly/BTDCompanyMeetings

Chinese producers please fill in the e-form at https://www.wjx.top/jq/35990911.aspx

Selection result will be announced by late-April 2019.

ACM Distribution

Deadline for applications: April 5, 2019

Founded in 2015 in order to support and promote the distribution and circulation of international co-productions, the ACM Distribution funding component, managed by the CNC with support from the MEDIA programme – Creative Europe, has just launched its seventh call for applications. It’s worth noting that it is now open to all co-productions between a MEDIA country and a non-MEDIA country, and the financial contribution of the MEDIA co-producer must be somewhere between 20% and 70%, for features of all genres.
To be eligible for ACM Distribution, the film or batch of features (up to a maximum of four) must have at least one co-producer based in a MEDIA member country and another in a territory outside of MEDIA or Eurimages.
Companies wishing to apply (encompassing producers, sales agents and content aggregators based in a MEDIA country and owned either directly by majority involvement or by nationals of these countries) must present a strategy for distribution in at least three countries (at least one of which must be in the MEDIA area, excluding France, and another in a country that is not a member of the MEDIA zone), and suggest one or more exhibition methods (theatres, festivals, TV, VoD and so on) for each movie. It should be stressed that innovative approaches are particularly encouraged (such as simultaneous VoD release and festival distribution, multiple circulation across several territories, straight to VoD, online festivals and so on) and that a coordinated distribution and circulation strategy is required for these films.
A detailed description of ACM Distribution and the application form itself can be found on the CNC’s website – please click here.

Ex Oriente Film Workshop

Deadline for Submissions: April 19, 2019

Ex Oriente Film is an international training programme for documentary professionals supporting the development and funding of creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. The core of the Ex Oriente Film workshop is based on three week-long residential workshops held over 9 months. Each year we select up to 12 projects that receive assistance from a wide range of film experts, with each workshop focusing on a different segment of development. Our participants are given a tailored guidance in developing the subject, narrative and the visual style of their projects, making drafts of a financing and distribution strategy, and finding international partners.
The course culminates in the pitching sessions of projects at the East Doc Forum co-production meeting, featuring the final pitching in front of Europe's and North America's leading commissioning editors and independent producers, distributors, buyers and film fund representatives.
The three residential Ex Oriente Film workshops and the East Doc Forum pitching are supplemented by the Follow-Up Programme - a yearlong chain of follow-up support and additional activities for projects that have completed, or are currently completing, the Ex Oriente Film workshop.
