  •  TAJ MAHAL by Nicolas Saada, producer: EAVE group leader Patrick Sobelman is filming. Based on the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai that shook the city to its very core, the story revolves around Louise, an 18-year-old girl who is leaving with her family to go to India, where her father has just got a job. The family is initially put up in a suite in the luxurious Taj Mahal hotel. One evening, while her parents are out having dinner in the city, she is alone in her bedroom and starts to hear strange noises coming from the hotel corridors. Within minutes she realises that a terrorist attack is under way. Her only link to the outside world is her phone, which allows her to stay in contact with her father, who desperately tries to reach her in a city plunged into chaos. Co-produced by France 3 Cinéma and pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature is also supported by the advance on receipts of the CNC and by Backup Films. The filming schedule includes a three-week shoot in India and five weeks of shooting in a studio in the Paris region.

The shoot will take place for ten days in Montreuil, before continuing in Reykjavik for 20 days next May.

PITCHING DU RÉEL: Call for projects for the next Pitching du Réel

Deadline for submission: December 15, 2014.

The Pitching du Réel, that helps launching documentary film projects in the principal distribution markets, is a great success: since its creation in 2006, almost 60% of the 147 selected film projects have been completed and released.

Visions du Réel, Festival international de cinema Nyon and its film market, the Doc Outlook-International Market (DOCM), announce their next Pitching du Réel (21-23 April 2015) call for creative feature-length documentary projects from all over the world.

From the 150 projects submitted each year to the DOCM for the Pitching du Réel, only 15 are selected.

The Pitching du Réel is intended for young as well as experienced and acknowledged filmmakers. The film project should already be well developed and have basic financing in place.

The Pitching du Réel welcomes projects realized by experienced as well as by new filmmakers, who should have at least directed short films. Its main target is to encourage international co-productions and to help finance outstanding documentary projects addressing an international audience. 15 projects will be presented publicly, then discussed in one-to-one meetings and in round-table sessions in the presence of professionals (commissioning editors, producers, distributors active in national and international markets or in digital promotion, financial partners such as public and private institutions, NGOs, contemporary art curators and foundations). The project teams may find international partners and financing support, discuss current questions of filmmaking, foster their knowledge and use the various networking possibilities in a pleasant, relaxed environment.

To submit a project for the upcoming Pitching du Réel (21 to 23 April 2015), please complete the entry form online: https://vp.eventival.eu/vdr/2015

The 15 selected projects will be announced in February 2015.

Ryan and Jay van Hoy.

The key note speakers of the EAVE+ January 2015 edition will be announced in November 2014.

Some comments from the previous editions:

«I thought it was a great four days and served as a real think tank for experienced producers to gain perspective on our changing world.»

Mike S. Ryan, Greyshack Films, USA

«The EAVE+ workshop was extremely useful on many levels - practical information on a range of subjects from promoting films on VoD platforms to how to work on one's resilience in stressful situations to raising private equity and managing those investor relationships. The networking element also really paid off in terms of finding a co-producer with access to a national fund in a country where one of my projects takes place, and that funding application is now underway.»

Natasha Dack, Tigerlily Films, UK

«It was hugely inspiring and interesting to look back and forward at our companies and the ever changing film environment in a greatly open atmosphere with an international group of colleague creative entrepreneurs. Priceless and inspiring to share thoughts and ideas, weakness and strengths about leading our companies and the ever changing film environment.»

Hanneke Niens, KeyFilm, The Netherlands

«It was the perfect moment for me and my partner to come to EAVE +, … (the) best moment to take a look… and see how it works for people with (the) same passion, but living and working in a completely different environment.»

Fernando Epstein, Mutante Cine, Uruguay

«The combination of people both participants and experts was magnificent and lead to a complete openness that I could not have imagined possible between a group of professionals at this stage of their careers. It was like an AA for producers, very painful but critical for our wellbeing. I am looking at everything since quite differently.»

Christine Alderson, Ipso Facto Films, UK

EAVE+ is organised twice a year in Luxembourg with different keynote speakers and topics addressed at each workshop session.

EAVE+ is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU and the Luxembourg Film Fund.
