  • HEIDI by writer/director/producer Catalin Mitulescu, producer: EAVE 2010 graduate Marcian Lazar is in pre-production. The film will question the situation of young women using men as vehicles for receiving nice things in life. "I will focus on girls who are living at men's expenses very close to prostitution, because I find very appealing this hunger for new experiences and things, from having an expensive car and expensive clothes to a weekend in Dubai, and to consume all these things very rapidly. It's like a hunger which is re-fueling from itself," says Mitulescu. Negotiations with French co-producers are underway. The project has a production grant of 467,860 EUR from the Romanian Film Center. The budget is approximately 1 M EUR. Shooting is planned for spring 2015.

A lot of the emotions I felt then are in the script, but the characters are fictionalized,” says Anca Damian. The project received a production grant from the Romanian Film Center, and it is also supported by Creative Europe/MEDIA with a development grant. The budget is 765,000 EUR. Shooting is planned to take place for 40 days in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca in June 2015.

  • EAVE 2011 project THE MAN WHO KNEW 75 LANGUAGES by Anne Magnussen and Pawel Debski, producer: EAVE 2011 graduate Zivile Gallego has gone into production. The animated documentary is about the language genius Georg Julius Justus Sauerwein who sacrificed his academic career to live among the most oppressed groups in Europe, the linguistic minorities. He fought for people’s right to speak their mother tongue and the use of the mother tongue in primary education. Because of his great linguistic talent he was headhunted to be the tutor of the beautiful and talented Princess Elisabeth of Wied in Germany who became the first queen of Romania and a famous writer of books, articles and poems. The film received funding from the Lithuanian Film Centre. Filming started in the beginning of August in Lithuania and will move to Poland.

  • FAMILY FILM by Olmo Omerzu, producer: EAVE 2007 graduate Jiri Konecny is shooting. The plot: A husband and wife set sail on the ocean, leaving their two children at home to explore the freedom offered them by the absence of parental supervision. But fear clouds the kids’ seemingly carefree life after they lose contact with their parents whose boat capsizes in a storm. The timing of the parents’ return corresponds with a tragedy at home. Their son lies in the hospital badly in need of a kidney transplant. Test results show that the father is in fact not related to the boy by blood. The film is supported by Eurimages, The State Cinematography Fund – Czech Republic, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Slovenian Film Center, MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (DE) and the MEDIA Programme. The Slovenian/Czech/ German/ Slovak/French co-production with a budget of 1.45 m EUR is being shot on locations in Prague and at the sea in Thailand. Shooting will last three months.

The film is a Greek-Croatian-French-Dutch coproduction with EAVE 2007 graduate Sinisa Juri?i? co-producing. The plot is centered on the most anticipated avant-garde theatre play of the year, when seven armed persons enter the stage randomly choosing people from the audience and asking them to co-create a new devised play with the cast. But with one condition: everything has to be real, from the performances to the bullets. The Croatian Audiovisual Center is supporting the film with a minority coproduction grant. The project won the TFL Production Award at TorinoFilmLab in 2012 and the CNC Award at CineLink at Sarajevo IFF in 2011. It was also selected in l'Atelier du Festival de Cannes in 2013. Shooting will wrap in September 2014 with most of the scenes shot at the Pallas Theater in Athens.

Crowdfunding for THE QUEEN OF IRELAND

  •
    • EAVE 2005 graduate Katie Holly and EAVE 2014 participant Ailish Bracken, producers from Bl!nder Films have teamed up with writer/director Conor Horgan, who directed their first feature film ONE HUNDRED MORNINGS for their latest feature documentary; THE QUEEN OF IRELAND. Over the last few years Rory has become a figurehead for LGBT rights in Ireland and since the recent scandal around Pantigate, his fight for equality and against homophobia has been recognised all around the world. The Queen of Ireland is not just about Panti Bliss the performer, or Rory O’Neill the accidental activist. It is about how one man in a dress has mobilized a nation and an international community to stand up and fight against injustice.

“We have set a goal of €50,000 to make this film. This will allow us to continue filming with Rory / Panti over the next few months, as well as allowing us to edit, research, get rights to use archive, music, and everything else we need to make the film.  We plan to raise matching funds, so YOUR contributions will help us make this the best film possible. You cannot underestimate the impact YOU can have on the future and the success of The Queen of Ireland. For your donations we are offering some truly unique perks which can be found here“: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-queen-of-ireland--2

EAVE 2015 European Producers Workshop

Call for applications: EAVE 2015 European Producers Workshop - deadline September 19, 2014

EAVEEuropean Audiovisual Entrepreneurs, is one of the leading training and development providers for producers in Europe, renowned for its European Producers Workshop.

Who is it for?

EAVE is aimed at producers, both fiction and documentary, who are already working in the film and television industries, who wish to begin to operate on a European wide basis by increasing their knowledge of producing and co-producing in Europe and by building up a pan European professional network. We also welcome applications from associated branches of the industry - e.g. commissioning, funding, legal and finance, festivals & markets, media administration. Each year fifty participants are selected from most of the EU countries and beyond and take part in three one-week long workshops.

How does it work?

Half the participants attend the course with projects and it is an excellent means of development through intense focus on the project with colleagues and experts throughout the year. Most participants attending with a project also bring their writer for the first two weeks which enables producer and writer to benefit together from one-to-one sessions with script experts.

During the first two workshops, in March and June, participants work within groups led by experienced producers and with several experts on script analysis, development and production financing, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching, packaging and more. In the third week in October/November, around 50-60 Decision Makers (commissioning editors, national and regional media funds, sales agents, etc.) join the participants to discuss the projects, companies and careers of the participants, a process which offers unusual access to Europe's Decision Makers.

EAVE graduates join a unique network of active European producers which forms one of the backbones of the industry. Furthermore, EAVE participants and members benefit from our partnerships with the leading European film festivals and markets where EAVE facilitates graduate participation.

Timeline

The interviews with a pre-selection of candidates will take place in autumn 2014 and the selection will be announced in December 2014. The 3 workshops take place during March 9 - 16 in Luxembourg (LU), June (dates TBC) in Belgium and October/November (dates TBC) in Strasbourg (FR) 2015.

Deadline for APPLICATIONS: September 19, 2014

Special for EAVE Producers: Independent Film Week

Dear EAVE producers,

We are happy to announce our new partnership with the Independent Filmmaker Project in the framework of the Independent Film Week

Independent Film Week is the oldest and largest forum in the US for the discovery of new projects in development and new voices on the independent film scene, and will take place as usual following the Toronto Film Festival, in New York City

Independent Film Week is the culmination of all we do at IFP and is the destination for storytellers in all mediums to connect with industry and peers to further advance their projects in an environment that promotes community, growth, and career sustainability. Filmmakers, content creators, innovators, and audiences come out in force to experience first-hand the expanded opportunities IFP has been working to provide the international film and media community.

Film Week encompasses the Filmmaker Conference, and the concurrent Project Forum that both showcase how great projects and creatives can connect with collaborators and audiences to make work that stands out in a crowded marketplace across multiple platforms and mediums.

Each day of the conference guides filmmakers in the art, technology and business of independent filmmaking. Project Forum has had a prolific history in the independent community supporting both emerging and established independent filmmakers at critical stages in their development processes. The organization championed the early work of pioneering independent filmmakers Charles Burnett, Todd Haynes, Mira Nair, Michael Moore, Joel and Ethan Coen, Kevin Smith, Todd Solondz, and Wayne Wang. Recently, it has also played a vital role in launching the first films of many of today’s rising stars on the independent scene including Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Debra Granik, (Down to the Bone) Miranda July (Me, You and Everyone We Know), and Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden (Half Nelson).

The Independent Film Week will take place during September 14-18, 2014 in New York City.

Special for EAVE producers: EAVE and IFP offer the opportunity for 3 EAVE producers to be registered for free at the Independent Film Week.

Please let us know if you are interested, by e-mail: tina@eave.org, no later than August 18.
