  • SHINDISI by Nick Agiashvili, co-producer: EAVE graduate Vladimer Katcharava is in pre-production. Based on a true story of the Russian invasion of Georgia, the film takes place in the village of Shindisi during the August war and changes the life of an ordinary Georgian peasant forever. In the heart of Shindisi, heavily armed Russian military unit occupying the village, breaks the promise of a peaceful corridor given to Georgians and opens fire on Georgian soldiers lured into the ambush. One part of the Georgian soldiers take fire on themselves enabling the twenty-five fellow warriors to leave the battlefield. In the unequal battle Ivanov, the high-ranking Russian officer fails to reach desired goal, the number of casualties among Georgian soldiers is significantly lower than he had supposed. Ivanov’s revenge grows into hysteria; he seeks for wounded Georgian soldiers on the battlefield and refuses to even bury corpses of the Georgians. The film begins shooting in Shindisi on the actual location of the original events in September. The movie will benefit from the Georgian National Film Centre’s film industry incentive scheme (20-25 % cash rebate), launched in January 2016 to give a much welcomed boost to the local service and production industry.

BREATHING INTO MARBLE now in production

  • THE LONGING by Joram Lürsen, producers: EAVE graduate Laurette Schillings, EAVE+ graduates Frans van Gestel and Arnold Heslenfeld is in production. Written by Frank Ketelaar, the story revolves around the very attractive Brigitte who shows up at publisher Goudemondt with a horrible manuscript. The publishers see possibilities: They make her switch roles with an unsightly and stuttering author of a literary masterpiece. The trick works; the book becomes both artistically and financially a huge success, but the initial agreement between all parties overturns into a bitter strife for acknowledgement. Principal photography starts in April 2016. The film is going to be released in Dutch cinemas in Spring 2017.

B’EST EAVE ends with an award ceremony in Cannes

The B'EST EAVE 2015 Producers Workshop ends today with the best project award announced at the Baltic Event reception in Cannes. The 12 000 Euros of development support is granted by the P.O.V. Film Development Fund. The award goes to producer Maxim Dashkin's (Russia) project THE LONGEST BIRTHDAY.

B'EST EAVE Producers Workshop, which took place in St Petersburg, Russia, in September, and during Baltic Event in Tallinn, Estonia, in November, ran for the 4th time in 2015.

Organised in collaboration with the training programme EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) and CTB Film Company (Russia), and supported by Creative Europe MEDIA Programme and Indigo Hotel St Petersburg, it is an initiative designed specifically for co-production projects between the European Union and the CIS countries, Georgia and Ukraine. Eight projects and four participants without projects were presented in its 2015 edition.

B'EST EAVE will discontinue in 2016, but negotiations with potential partners in the CIS countries will hopefully result in a comeback in the coming years.

Upcoming Deadlines

connecting cottbus: Save the date and submit your feature projects now!

Deadline: July 30, 2016

connecting cottbus, the East-West co-production market at the FilmFestival Cottbus will take place on November 10 and 11 and searches for the most exciting pitch projects until July 30, 2016

connecting cottbus (coco), the East-West co-production market at the FilmFestival Cottbus, is currently accepting project submissions for its 2016 pitching session until July 30. Furthermore producers, sales agents and other industry representatives are invited to participate without specific projects.

Founded in 1999, coco is one of the leading international meeting points for film professionals in an East- West-European context aiming to foster co-production with a special focus on East-West feature film projects. Films such as THE HIGH SUN or ONE FLOOR BELOW (both Cannes Un Certain Regard 2015) as well as MOTHERLAND (Venice Film Festival 2015) or A GOOD WIFE (Sundance Film Festival 2016) were pitched in Cottbus before they were successfully produced and released. connecting cottbus also offers up-to-date information, discussions on current topics and networking events with particular attention to the financing and market landscape.

Until July 30, 2016, producers can apply with a feature film project that either originates in or is content wise related to Eastern Europe and shows potential for an East-West co-production. The projects to be presented at coco will be selected until mid-September. Producers, sales agents, distributors, festival representatives, commissioning editors and financiers are welcome to reserve their seats as guests without project by submitting their application form by October 14, 2016.

This year, 11 film projects from or related to Eastern Europe will get the chance to present themselves to an industry audience at connecting cottbus. The coco Best Pitch Award of €1,500 plus an accreditation to the Cannes Producers Network 2017 goes to the producer of the best pitch and is awarded by all industry participants. A jury of three industry representatives will award the coco Post Pitch Award of €25,000, an in-kind award donated by the German post-production house The Post Republic.

The HFM Co-Production Platform is open for submissions

Deadline: July 1, 2016

The 29th Holland Film Meeting will be held 22 - 25 September 2016. In its core the Utrecht-based HFM Co-Pro Platform event is one of the key staging posts for the finance of independent European cinema, and generous prizes are on offer to aid the development and/or production of the film.

We are officially open for submissions until July 1st, 2016. The application form is available here.

Every year the HFM selects around twenty film projects in development, suitable for co-production, ready to be presented to many of international cinema's most important and influential financiers, distributors, sales agents, broadcasters and co-producers. Selected participants will benefit from the chance to pitch their projects, receive feedback from leading film professionals, and to have one-on-one meetings within a professional but relaxed atmosphere. For international projects the selection includes travel and accommodation for three nights in Utrecht’s luxurious Hotel Karel V, covering two delegates per project. European feature-length films suitable for co-production, with a minimum duration of 70 minutes, and with local financial support in place (support from a public funding institution, TV, MG or tax shelter), are eligible for selection.

CROSSROADS CO-PRODUCTION FORUM, November 19 – 21, 2016

Application deadline August 30, 2016

CROSSROADS is a Co-Production Forum, organized by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Mediterranean and Balkan producers with a feature film script are given the chance to meet a new network of financiers, co-producers and leading industry specialists.

CROSSROADS will take place for three days from November 19 to the 21 this year.

CROSSROADS will introduce producers to a variety of industry professionals from all over the world. The programme is varied and provides the opportunity to meet, formally and informally, distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and consultants who can offer confidential advice on everything from legal matters to strategies for raising money.

CROSSROADS' goal is to support the producers of feature-length fiction film projects that contain a link to the Mediterranean and Balkan regions. Qualifying features will be produced or co-produced by a country in this area or are movies that contain story elements based in this region.

CROSSROADS projects will be selected based on the quality of the script, the creative team and the likelihood of being made. The deadline for applications is August 30.

EP2C post-production workshop 2016

Application Deadline: June 2016

Are you a producer or a post-production supervisor looking for a smoother post-production for your feature films (fiction or documentary)

EP2C is a project based workshop, mainly designed for producers and dedicated to post-production management. The workshop is also open to post-production supervisors. During  one week, technical, financial and artistic post-production challenges are addressed in lectures, group sessions and individual meetings.

Once a year, the workshop welcomes 22 participants and some 20 international experts specialised in various aspects of post-production and international co-productions.

EP2C was created in 2009 in the firm belief that a well-scheduled, well-budgeted, well-run post-production, apart from saving the producer a lot of work, time, and money, will most of all protect the film from unnecessary artistic compromise.

Producers come with a feature film project (fiction or documentary at development stage) on which they will work with the experts for a week.

Post-production supervisors are assigned to producers' projects. The workshop gives them an opportunity to share experiences and talk about methods used in their countries. This annual itinerant workshop is supported by the Media Programme of the European Union and was created on the initiative of the Belgium production company Entre Chien et Loup (Diana Elbaum & Sébastien Delloye).

MEDIMED - THE EURO-MEDITERRANEAN DOCUMENTARY MARKET

Sitges (Barcelona) 13-16 October 2016

MEDIMED is calling for entries of new documentary projects-in-development having in place 25% of their finance and/or a broadcast guarantee or co-production agreement. We are looking for European producers and filmmakers that can provide independently produced documentaries, projects engaging in creative risks, advancing issues and presenting points of views not typically seen on television. Selected projects will be pitched at the central Pitching Forum or at the newly designed ANTI-pitch program dedicated to projects in their final stage of production.

We are also looking for finished European documentary productions of any genre produced in 2015 or 2016.

This dedicated market is focused on the promotion and development of new European and Mediterranean independent documentary productions, promoting the networking between international producers and financiers. MEDIMED offers an excellent opportunity to introduce and sell new films to international buyers, thus enhancing distribution possibilities for their recently produced documentaries.

Last year, 30 documentary projects from 15 European & Southern Mediterranean countries were pitched to a panel of key commissioning editors, and 500 finished documentaries were screened by 70 international buyers and distributors.

The deadline for the submission of both programmes and projects is due JUNE 30. They can be registered free of charge and are subject to selection by an international jury.

MEDIMED is organized by the Mediterranean Producer’s Association, APIMED, with the financial support of the EUROPE CREATIVE MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

To obtain the entry forms and for any further information, please visit: www.medimed.org or contact the organisation via email at: medimed@apimed.org

SPECIAL FOR EAVE PRODUCERS: FIDLab Marseille

Dear EAVE producers,

FIDLAB and EAVE are glad to invite you to apply for the 8th edition of the FIDLAB (Marseille, July 15th-16th) and discover 11 brand new film projects at all stages of development.

FIDLab is a professional platform for coproduction support, setting up meetings between projects and possible co-producers, distributors, representatives of international cinema funds, sales agents, curators, programmers and other potential financiers. FIDLab offers a dynamic and active work environment, where artistic and economic joint ventures are created.

In the framework of the partnership with EAVE, FIDLAB will select 2 EAVE producers to participate in the 2016 edition of the FIDLab. This invitation will include 3 nights of hotel accommodation and an industry accreditation for the festival. In order to apply, please send, before June 8th, your CV and a short letter of motivation to the following addresses: fidlab@fidmarseille.orgfranciscalucero@fidmarseille.org

For the call for entries 2016, 11 projects, all with a budget under 1 million Euros were selected from more than 370 applications from 87 countries. In the past 7 editions FIDLab has selected 80 projects. More than 50% of those projects are now films with a rich and diverse life and visibility.

FIDLab lasts for two days : visual and oral presentations are followed by one-to-one meetings. FIDLab has the same criteria as FIDMarseille: it has no restriction of genre, length or format; and gives a particular attention to those films that cross the boundaries between fiction and documentary.

Different from a market pitching, FIDLab offers the professional audience a chance to discover the projects through images, rushes, rough cuts, photos, artistic references and all the material that may increase the understanding of the project. In a diverse international context, FIDLab aims to reinforce projects chosen not only for their artistic and creative qualities, but also for their international potential and market accessibility.

FIDLab is a meeting place for discussing film projects, offering film-makers an opportunity to make useful contacts and networking thanks to match-maked and free one-to-one meetings, as well as more informal moments of encounter.

Eight projects and four participants without projects were presented in its 2015 edition with participants coming from Germany, Estonia, Finland, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, and Lithuania.

The Longest Birthday (screenwriter Savion Einstein) is a road-movie about a young mother who travels through multiple time zones with her fatally ill son to give him the longest birthday ever. Riina Sildos, the Head of Studies, and Natalia Drozd, the Head of P.O.V. Film Development Fund, admitted that The Longest Birthday was one of the most promising projects at B’EST EAVE 2015, and the development process of the project has convinced them that the resulting film will be applauded internationally by audiences and critics alike.

The P.O.V. Film Development Fund provides financial, educational, and other forms of support for the development of feature film co-productions with Russia.

B'EST EAVE will discontinue in 2016, but negotiations with potential partners in the CIS countries will hopefully result in a comeback in the coming years.

Baltic Event, B'EST EAVE's host event during Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in the framework of Industry@Tallinn, will take place on November 21-24, 2016. The Call for Projects will be announced in the beginning of June.
