ROOM now in post-production
In Post-Production July 2015
- ROOM by Lenny Abrahamson, producer: EAVE graduate Ed Guiney is in post-production. The adaptation of a novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue tells the story of Jack, a five-year-old growing up somewhere in America in an 11-by-11-foot shed he believes to be the whole world; his playful, devoted young mother has shielded him from the truth that they are captives.
- THE PARTICIPANTS by Paul Rowley, producer: EAVE graduate Nicky Gogan is in the final stages of post-production and will have its premiere in July at GAZE - Dublin International LGBT Festival. The film: In an eerie abandoned world where no adults are to be found, a gang of forgotten children plays games to gain the favour of Mikhail, the self-proclaimed leader of this strange and isolated society. Rebelling against Mikhail's bullying ways, Emilia, Boris and the bird-like shaman boy Josef devise a plan to escape, twisting the rules to beat Mikhail at his own game. Adopting the classic conventions of Sci-Fi - a queer and unconventional story unfolds. A metaphor for much broader themes and concerns, THE PARTICIPANTS examines the nature of power, mob rule, and the darker side of human group behaviour.
- L’INSOUMISE by Jawad Rhalib, producer: EAVE graduate Isabelle Truc is in post-production. The film is supported by Centre du Cinéma de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Centre du Cinéma Marocain.
- Documentary musical TARLING IS DARLING by Ismail Fahmi Lubish, producer: Ties That Bind graduate Rina Harahap is looking for interested European distributors. Indramayu is a small town with its own vibrant home entertainments industry in which hundreds of singers, dangdut orchestras, and recording studios compose songs and create video clips. The local music, tarling dangdut, bears a poor image though. It is well known for its erotic dances performed by skimpily dressed singers, drunken spectators, and love around the stage that can be bought and sold. Surprisingly enough, tarling dangdut can very well co-exist with Islamic boarding schools nearby. Those religious institutions adopt the drum-and-flute-featured music as extracurricular and try to replace its foul image by imposing sharia-based lyrics.
