RIFT IN THE ICE by Maja Milos is shooting

In Production February 2022

  • FUGA by Bénédicte Lienard and Mary Jimenez, producer: EAVE graduate Hanne Phlypo is currently filming. The film plays with genre conventions. Its plot is resolutely hybrid, mixing fiction and reality, and offering real people some beautiful characters to embody. It is a powerful cinematic gesture, fuelled by a long process of research and preparation, and an intense, particularly fruitful collaboration with the technical and artistic team. FUGA brings us into the heart of the Amazon. Saor, a young Indian, has come to the funeral of his mistress, Valentina, in his native village. She has taken her secrets with her into her grave. By meeting those who were her friends, Saor plunges into his memories. He unveils the things that remained unsaid and gradually comes to understand the life of the one he loved, to the point where fear takes a hold of him. Filming is taking place until late April, between Iquitos and Sauce. The film is produced by Hanne Phlypo for Clin d’Oeil Films and co-produced by Perpetua Films (Peru), SNG Studio (Netherlands) and Tu Vas Voir (France).

  • SIBIU ’89 by EAVE graduate Tudor Giurgiu, producer: EAVE graduate Oana Giurgiu is in production. The feature film is set in the city of Sibiu in December 1989, during the fall of the Communism. The project is a Romanian/Hungarian co-production between Giurgiu’s Libra Film Productions and Mythberg Films. The script written by Cecilia Stefanescu, Tudor Giurgiu and Napoleon Helmis reenacts a lesser-known story about those chaotic days of violent civil unrest that led to a bloody confrontation between the Army forces and Ceaușescu’s repression instruments, the Miliția and Securitate (the secret police). In the maddening hunt for the so-called “terrorists” responsible for the killings, panic and confusion ensues. No one’s to be trusted, everyone could be an enemy, ordinary people turn into torturers, but at the end of the day, who were the real terrorists? The budget is partially covered by grants from the Romanian Film Centre (CNC) and the National Film Institute – Hungary. The producers are EAVE graduates Oana Bujgoi Giurgiu, Tudor Giurgiu and Jozsef Berger. The film will be shot in Sibiu, Braila and Bucharest.
