Recognizing that the film industry is a vital contributor to both the social and macroeconomic development of a region, Creative Producer Indaba aims to provide professional training and empower Africa's emerging producers with creative vision and leadership skills. These producers will be key players in building favourable policies and financial infrastructure needed to grow Africa's film industry. In addition, Creative Producer Indaba aims to foster collaboration between Europe, North America and Africa that will result in a fruitful exchange of ideas and international co-productions. In doing so, we hope to change the landscape of African and international cinema. This initiative is brought to you in a partnership between EAVE, International Film Festival Rotterdam’s IFFR Pro, Realness Institute and Sundance Institute.
Creative Producer Indaba is a year-long professional development programme, providing emerging producers with the necessary tools and leadership skills to pursue their craft, as well as capacity to operate sustainable businesses at a strategic level.
The participants will attend three different sessions over the course of the year. The first two sessions will run 7-days each and will be a collaborative model inspired by EAVE’s PUENTES and Ties That Bind workshops (which have enjoyed over a decade of success and proven results), and Sundance Institute’s Lab model (which was established over 35 years ago and is recognized worldwide). These models will be adapted to fit the African producers’ needs. Through plenary sessions, masterclasses, case studies and one-on-one meetings with programme mentors on such topics as script development, financing, PR and marketing, strategic planning, organizational development, and leadership building, the programme will provide year-round dynamic support at every step of the creative journey. The participants’ work at these residencies is guided toward a package that consists of business and marketing plans and a script to be presented at the 3rd gathering at a film market in Africa in the second half of 2021.
