TIES THAT BIND kicked off in Udine!

We are delighted to announce that the TIES THAT BIND Asia - Europe Producers Workshop had a successful start in Udine!

The ten selected producers, 5 from Asia – the Philippines, Singapore, China, Japan and Malaysia – and 5 from Europe – France, Belgium, Poland and the Netherlands – have met for the first workshop in Udine (Italy) during the Udine Far East Film Festival from April 29 to May 3, 2014.

The 10 selected producers are working throughout the year on the development of their projects under the guidance of top industry professionals from both continents.

In Udine, various plenary sessions have addressed key issues of project development, company management and financing and market conditions in Europe and Asia.

Clare Downs elaborated on strategies for script development and made a film analysis of Oldboy by Chan-wook Park. Mathew Scott interviewed Roger Garcia focusing on independent cinema and the festival circuit. Sibylle Kurz introduced the principles of pitching. Michael J. Werner dedicated his session to world sales and the state of the market for Asian films. Meinolf Zurhorst has dedicated his session to the financing landscape of European TV. In addition, Paolo Bertolini and Jongsuk Thomas Nam gave a presentation of their respective festivals, namely the Venice Film Festival and the Puchon Int'l Fantastic Film Festival – PiFan. Paolo Bertolini also presented the Doha Film Institute.

Pre-scheduled individual meetings between all experts and the participants were organised. Daily group work sessions were at the core of the workshop under the guidance of their group leader Elise Jalladeau and Ties that Bind Head of Studies Christophe Bruncher.

The selected participants also attendd the ASEF panel in cooperation with the Udine Far East Film Festival. The theme of the panel was “Acting different: East and West” and was  moderated by Sabrina Baracetti and Max Tessier.
