THE WARDEN and STAND UP now in post-production
In post-production July 2019
THE WARDEN by Threes Anna, producer: EAVE+ graduate Hanneke Niens is in post-production. The film’s story, penned by the director herself, revolves around a biologist and experienced birdwatcher who has lived all alone on an island near the coast for many years. He is working as an ornithologist when, all of a sudden, he gets the unexpected news that he has to retire and that his post will be made defunct. The birdwatcher decides not to give up and plans his protest. Threes Anna: „THE WARDEN is a solo-film about an old man alone on an island full of birds. Freek de Jonge, a 75-year-old Dutch comedian, was my actor, and his performance exceeded all expectations. Today, I felt like I was in a sweet shop surrounded by the most fantastic ingredients. Now the trick is to make the most beautiful meal possible out of it all.” The film is being produced by Hanneke Niens and Hans de Wolf for KeyFilm in co-operation with Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS. Furthermore, the project recently received a grant from the Netherlands Film Fund.
www.keyfilm.nlSTAND UP by Juraj Bohus, producer: EAVE graduate Katarina Krnacova is in post-production. The film follows the lead character, forty-something Miso, who leaves his steady job behind only to fulfil his dream of being a professional stand-up comedian. However, he encounters many challenges that he was unprepared for while touring Slovakian cities. According to Katarina Krnacova, the film combines an “intimate story set in a local environment with the universal topic of searching for one’s identity”. The low-budget production is the first domestic movie to attempt a “green shoot”. “The idea of incorporating several green rules into my work in film was inspired by the activity and lectures organised by the Slovak Film Agency,” said Krnacova. The project was supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, and secured backing from “private sources, including American partners, but also some from Slovakia and the Czech Republic.” The film is being co-produced by Ten Acre Films and Webster University (USA).
