  • DAUGHTER OF RAGE by Laura Baumeister, producer: EAVE graduate Dag Hoel is in post-production. A mother/daughter story set in a garbage dump in Managua, Guatemala, the film follows eleven-year-old Maria, full of rage because her mother has abandoned her. Strong of will, the girl learns to care for herself and joins a gang of other abandoned children. Already backed by a four-way production partnership spanning Nicaragua, Mexico, the Netherlands and Germany, Baumeister’s debut feature project swept three of the four prizes on offer at San Sebastian’s 8th Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum. The film is produced by Nicaragua (Felipa Films), Mexico (Martfilms), the Netherlands (Halal), France (Promenades Films), Germany (Heimatfilm – EAVE+ graduate Bettina Brokemper) and Norway (Dag Hoel). Baumeister is the first Nicaraguan woman to have shot a feature film in her country.

  • EL HOUB by Shariff Nasr, producer: EAVE graduate Joram Willink is in post-production. The Amsterdam-based company is producing this social drama about a Moroccan-Dutch family dealing with the taboo of a same-sex love affair. The main protagonist, Karim, is brave enough to tell his parents about his homosexuality, and is then confronted with his own feelings and insecurities. EL HOUB is a BIND production, in co-production with VPRO. It is being supported by the Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, CoBO and NPO-fonds. Among the other projects being handled by the production company are the brand-new THE JUDGEMENT by Sander Burger and MASCOT by Remy van Heughten. In Cannes Docs, Willink’s BIND also presented the feature-length documentary and EAVE project A THOUSAND FIRES by Saeed Taji Farouky, producers: EAVE graduates Estelle Robin You, May Odeh and Palmyre Badinier about a family in Myanmar who try to build a better future for themselves by working in oil extraction. Moreover, the company is presently working on the debut by Eelko Ferwerda, JACOB’S WAY, as a co-producer. The firm’s line-up thus reveals a particular area of interest for the producer: social topics and stories that inspire social change. Furthermore, the titles in the company’s repertoire have been screened at international film festivals and won a string of awards.

  • SMILING GEORGIA by Luka Berdadze, co-producer: EAVE graduate Eva Blondiau is in post-production. The elderly population of a village of “No Name” was left toothless as a result of a failed 2012 pre-election campaign “Smiling Georgia”. The documentary looks at whether the villagers' lives change as the cycle repeats and new promises and guarantees are made to them in sight of the approaching elections of 2020. The film is produced by Nino Chichua and Anna Khazaradze (1991 Productions) in co-production with Sophio Bendiashvili and Bacho Meburishvili’s Enkeny Films and Eva Blondiau’s (Color of May). The project was supported by the Georgian National Film Center and received support from Cut Thru Noise Award at East Doc Platform.
