EAVE Launches 2025 Think Tank Report on Inclusive Co-Production at Marché du Film
press release
EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) is proud to announce the release of its 2025 EAVE IMPACT Think Tank Report on Inclusive Co-Production Practices, a bold new framework to transform international co-production models through equity, transparency, and narrative sovereignty. The report will officially launch at a special panel during this year’s Marché du Film – Co-Production Day:
Panel: Inclusive Co-Productions – Building New Frameworks
Date: Saturday, 17 May
Time: 10:00–11:00 AM
Location: Palais Stage (Level -1), Marché du Film, CannesSpeakers: Emile Hertling Péronard (Ánorâk Film, Denmark & Greenland), Jennifer Sabbah-Immagine (BIG SISTER & JSI Consultant, FR), Myriam Sassine (La Niña Cinema, France & Lebanon), Daniela Mujica (Productions Ocho, Canada)
Moderator: Tamara Dawit (Gobez Media, Canada, Ethiopia)
Developed through a global, multi-stakeholder think tank facilitated by EAVE in partnership with When East Meets West (WEMW) and supported by the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Telefilm Canada, and the International Emerging Film Talent Association (IEFTA), the report responds to an urgent need to address systemic barriers in the global co-production ecosystem. As international collaboration becomes more critical to financing screen content, the need for inclusive co-production models that reflect a plurality of voices has never been greater.
“International co-productions have long been a tool for collaboration, but too often they replicate inequitable systems and silence the very voices they aim to amplify. With this report, we offer not just a critique - but a roadmap - for producers committed to co-creating a truly inclusive and globally representative screen industry. At EAVE, we believe this work is essential to the future of international storytelling.” - Kristina Trapp, CEO, EAVE
The report outlines concrete areas of work for producers across all stages of content creation, offering practical tools and strategies to build more ethical and inclusive co-productions:
- Development: Building narratives that resonate locally and globally through innovative storytelling techniques, community engagement, and cultural considerations.
- Financing & Contracting: Establishing equitable financing structures that ensure fair access to resources for marginalized creators, including alternative funding models, co-financing strategies, and ethical revenue-sharing considerations.
- Production: Ensuring inclusive crew selection, fostering team-building on set, and implementing ethical frameworks such as contracts, codes of conduct, and legal capacity-building measures.
- Post-Production: Protecting creative integrity by establishing processes that uphold cultural authenticity and ensure the developmental vision remains intact.
- Release & Distribution: Crafting inclusive release strategies that maximize market access while ensuring equitable representation of all co-producing parties across festival platforms, commercial venues, and non-theatrical screening opportunities.
"Building a truly inclusive global screen industry demands more than goodwill—it requires real frameworks for action. This report is a powerful step forward, offering guiding principles and tangible tools that can reshape how we collaborate across borders, cultures, and communities to bring stories to life. The CMF is honoured to support this important work, and we are grateful for the strong partnership between EAVE, Telefilm, and IEFTA in making it possible." - Joy Loewen, VP of Growth & Inclusion, CMF
This initiative builds on EAVE’s long-term commitment to advancing inclusion and sectoral transformation. The Canada Media Fund, a key partner in this effort, continues to champion inclusive practices and this necessary global dialogue.
Please note: the report is under embargo until May 17, 2025, and will be made publicly available online following its Cannes launch.
