Dorothy Viljoen scholarship For EAVE European Producers Workshop
Press release
Dorothy Viljoen scholarship announced
Pact and EAVE will jointly offer a new scholarship for one UK participant each year for EAVE’s European Producers Workshop.
The Pact / EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) scholarship is in the name and memory of Dorothy Viljoen, who passed away earlier this year.
Dorothy Viljoen was widely considered one of the most influential figures in media business affairs. She worked for organisations including the Independent Broadcasting Authority, Central TV and Pact. In 1991, she authored 'Art of the Deal', regarded as the definitive handbook for business affairs.
The scholarship will cover a student's participation fee for the workshop and part of the accommodation fees.
EAVE is a leading training and development providers for producers in Europe, renowned for its European Producers Workshop. The process for selection starts in autumn 2014. More information here
Alan Fountain, EAVE President, said: "Dorothy offered generous support and expertise over many years to numerous EAVE and Pact producers and this scholarship is a wonderful way to assist a producer in her name. I can feel her warm smile of approval."
John McVay, Chief Executive at Pact, described Dorothy as a key part of Pact’s negotiating team in the first round of the terms of trade negotiations with broadcasters.
“Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her and I am pleased that Pact is able to honour Dorothy’s memory in this way," said John McVay. "We will all miss Aunty Dot, the nickname she was fondly given by Pact staff."
“Dorothy was always ready to advise Pact and its members and always tried to sort out what seemed intractable problems with a twinkle in her eye and an endless enthusiasm. There are many independent producers still around today who owe Dorothy an enormous debt of gratitude."
