EAVE Diversity strategy
Actions and key objectives
EAVE has been working since 2022 with EAVE producer and inclusion expert Tamara Dawit (Gobez Media, Canada/Ethiopia) to develop a long-term diversity strategy aimed at implementing concrete and meaningful actions, removing barriers and increasing access to participation for new and specific target groups. Since September 2023, the EAVE Racial Equity Advisory Group was appointed - a board composed of audiovisual professionals from the global majority - to provide advice and feedback on the EAVE diversity strategy.
Between 2023 and 2024, EAVE has implemented the following actions:
- Implemented a Code of Conduct (add link), a guideline for Safer Space at EAVE workshops (add link) and an inclusive language guide for staff and trainers, provided all workshop attendees with confidential helplines in each workshop location and established a reporting system to track issues of inequity or discrimination
- Engaged with European and global film organizations led by Indigenous, Back or People of Colour to support scholarships for international producers
- Created specific scholarships for residents and citizens who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour for the EAVE Producers Workshop, EAVE+ and EAVE Marketing Workshop
- Started tracking demographic data of applications of the main EAVE programmes to assess levels of participation and gaps in our programming and outreach
- Provided annual training for all trainers and staff onanti-racism and inclusion
- Programmed sessions on inclusive production principles for programs annually, with adjustments made to content as required
- Diversified the pool of experts
Key objectives of the Diversity Strategy
- Integrating inclusion targets and budgets into all programme designs and organisational planning
- Increasing diversity and inclusion among attendees across all programmes
- Eliminating Eurocentric biases within the organisation's operations and programmes
- Fighting systemic racism in the film industry
- Serving as a model for inclusive operations and programming frameworks for other film industry organisations
The goals of the Diversity Strategy are operational and continuously updated, adapted, and refined to respond to new challenges and developments.
The Strategy focuses on both EAVE’s internal (staff, experts, board of directors, and internal policies) and external operations (communication, participant selection, industry partnerships, and working groups), as well as the global audiovisual industry as a whole.
