Biography

Basil was born and raised in Nazareth, to a Palestinian father and an English-Irish mother. He studied in Edinburgh, at Screen Academy Scotland, an MA in Producing & Script Development, and in 2006 Basil directed his debut feature documentaries REPLAY REVENGE that toured international film festivals then directed GAME OF DEATH & SURVIVAL for AlJazeera English. He also produced and directed a number of fiction and documentary short films including the award-winning film SHOOTER. Basil is currently living in London where he works as a freelance producer on British and international television productions with known artists such as Jamie Oliver and Ricky Gervais and has also co-written a 25-episode kids TV series for AlJazeera Children’s Channel. Basil is also a screenwriter, and his latest screenplay; A GAZA WEEKEND took part in the 2010 RAWI/Sundance screenwriters’ lab and the Torino Film Lab: Interchange programme with the Dubai International Film Festival and EAVE. Basil has three other screenplays in development, one of which as a producer.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
