Ties That Bind heads to Singapore for the 5th time
with NZ Partnership and an expanded Project Market
For the Fifth year in a row, TIES THAT BIND (TTB)’s second workshop returns to Singapore. TTB is a workshop programme connecting professionals from Asia and Europe. It combines producer training, project development and co-production meetings, and focuses on co-operation between European producers and their Asian counterparts.
For the first time we are organising in parallel to TTB and in partnership with the New Zealand Film Commission and SAAVA a TIES THAT BIND ON DEMAND workshop for 7 selected producers from New Zealand. They will work on developing their projects under the guidance of the two TTB group leaders, Fran Borgia (Akanga Film Asia, SG) and Jonas Weydemann (Weydemann Bros., DE). They will also network with the TTB participants in joint plenary sessions and networking events, and explore and foster opportunities for Europe-Asia-New Zealand co-production and other collaboration.
The TTB participants will meet in Singapore from December 2 – 6, 2019, and will continue to develop and package their projects under the guidance of TTB Head of Studies Christophe Bruncher (Ici et Là Productions, FR), script consultants Clare Downs (UK) and Alex Jia (Beijing WD Pictures, CN), and group leaders Fran Borgia and Jonas Weydemann.
The TTB guest experts will include Nicolas Brigaud-Robert (Playtime, FR), Jean-Baptiste Babin (Backup Media Group, FR), Bianca Balbuena (Epicmedia Productions, PH) and Olivier Père (Arte France Cinéma, FR).
TTB graduates Bianca Balbuena (Epicmedia Productions, PH), Jeremy Chua (Potocol, SG) and Boštjan Virc (Studio Virc, SI) will give a case study on 6 countries co-production of the TTB film MOTEL ACACIA by Bradley Liew. MOTEL ACACIA premiered at the Asian Future Competition @ Tokyo IFF. Picture Tree International is handling international sales.
Thanks to the partnership with the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) and with support from Asia TV Forum & Market, the second workshop of TTB 2019 will be held during the Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) Project Market, where the selected TTB projects will be presented together with 15 other selected projects from Southeast Asia to leading decision makers from Asia and Europe. This year’s SAFF Project Market has surpassed the previous mark by establishing SGD100,000 worth of prizes and awards up for grabs for its selected projects from top companies in the region: 108 Media, Salt Media, ACE Pictures, Supernova & KL Post, AV8 and RED Digital Cinema.
Among the decision makers at SAFF this year: Justin Deimen (Aurora Media Holdings, SG), Keiko Funato (Alpha Violet, FR), Georges Goldenstern (Cinéfondation, FR), Christoph Hahnheiser (Black Forest Films, DE), Roselle Monteverde (Regal Entertainment, PH), Jeremy Sim (Aurora Global Media Capital, SG), Joanne Goh (Jazzy Group, MY), Christopher Figg (Piccadilly, UK), Allen Jordan (Goshen Prime, ID), Gabriel Kuperman (Luang Prabang Film Festival, LA), Sherman Ng (Salt Media, SG), Himanshu Shah (RED/AV8, SG), Jordan Nutson and Ryo Abe (108 Media, SG/JP), Samad Hassan (KL Post, MY), Peter Wong (ACE Pictures, MY), Carlene Tan (Disney/SAAVA, SG) and David Bessieres (Canal+, FR).
