Biography

Producer Reinier Selen was born in Venlo in 1972. He graduated as a documentary director from Kunstacademie St. Joost (St. Joost’s Art Academy) in Breda in 1996. He founded Rinkel Film B.V. in 1996. In the following years Selen produced nine films for TV, the crime series ACCESS DENIED and the award-winning feature films OFF SCREEN and BLOOD BROTHERS. He initiated and produced BACKSLIDE in 2003, which reached Golden Film-status within four weeks. The film was sold to 12 other countries and won many awards including three Golden Calves. In 2005, Selen took part in the creative writing programme at the Binger FilmLab and in 2006 he attended the European EAVE Programme. Selen was one of the Golden Calf Jury members at the 2007 Netherlands Film Festival and represented our country as ‘Producer On The Move’ at the 2008 Cannes International Film Festival. The latter resulted in Selen receiving an invitation to participate in the Producers Lab Toronto 2010. In 2014 he made the selection for Inside Pictures. A prestigious and professional training program, set up by Qwerty Films (UK) and developed under the banner of the National Film & Television School London. Selen is a member of the European Film Academy. In 2014 Rinkel Film released three new feature films: ACCUSED, LOVE ETERNAL and SECRETS OF WAR. ACCUSED made it to the shortlist of the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and also premiered at the International Palm Springs Festival in California, USA whereas SECRETS OF WAR was screened at many leading foreign festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada, the Chicago Children\'s Film Festival in the USA and the het Palm Springs International Film Festival in the USA. In addition, SECRETS OF WAR has also won several international awards like the Audience Choice-Best Feature Award on the Stony Brook Film Festival in New York. In 2015 Rinkel Film produced two films, MAMMAL and BRAND NEW-U. MAMMAL premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2016, and at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Additionally, it won the Panavision Independent Spirit Award during the Santa Barbara Film Festival. BRAND NEW-U premiered during the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2015 and was screened at the L’Étrange Festival Paris among others. Moreover, it was selected for Critic’s Choice during the International Film Festival Rotterdam. This year, Rinkel Film is focusing on the production of three new feature; A REAL VERMEER, RAFAËL and SILK ROAD, all based on true stories. A REAL VERMEER tells the story of Han van Meegeren, who forges Vermeer paintings to make money only to be caught in a web of lies. RAFAËL is a love story about a Dutch woman and a Tunisian man fighting to be together against the backdrop of the Arabic Spring. SILK ROAD is a television film inspired by the story of the Dutch Maikel S., who was considered as one of the biggest online drugs dealers active on Silk Road and was arrested by the FBI in Miami in 2013.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
