Biography

Mariana Oliva is a partner and producer at Maria Farinha Films (MFF), the leading production company in Latin America dedicated to creating impact entertainment that helps accelerate social and environmental change. As a member of the UN Global Compact initiative, each of MFF’s projects is designed to be a film-based movement committed to the UN’s SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). With extensive credits to her name she has produced films and series in both documentary and fiction bringing the best of LATAM’s talent to a global stage. In the recent years she has produced the second season of hit drama series Aruanas (2021 - Globo/Globoplay), which had audiences regularly exceeding 30 million viewers; documentaries such as The Beginning of Life 2 (2020 - available worldwide at Netflix), and A Crime Amongst Us (2020 - available at Globoplay) and The Sound River (2022- Youtube) with 10 million viewers. She also produced the critically acclaimed Oscar® Nominated Netflix Original The Edge of Democracy (2019), winner of the Peabody and Platino awards. Mariana directed and produced the documentary Piripkura (2017 - available on Amazon Prime Video), winner of the Amsterdam Human Rights Award (IDFA), Best Documentary (Rio Int. Film Festival), and Best International Film (Docville). Prior to being an independent producer, Mariana was Head of Market and Labs for DOCSP – an International Documentary Meet Market in Sao Paulo. She has worked as a tutor and in international relations at DocMontevideo and coordinated international co-productions at TAL - Televisão America Latina that involved over 30 TV channels from 20 countries. She is also a member of The Academy of Sciences and Motion Pictures. Mariana holds a MFA from The University of Edinburgh and a BA in Journalism at PUC-SP.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
