Biography

Following more than a decade of record company experience, primarily working at Virgin Records, I’ve spent fifteen years in senior roles at music publishing companies, most recently as Director of Film, Television & Media at Universal Music Publishing, overseeing all of Universal’s European licensing activities. I’m responsible for numerous music placements and record releases, including the million plus selling Inspector Morse soundtracks - the first successful television tie-in soundtracks. I also released hit albums, such as the Best of Ladysmith Black Mambaso and acquired and produced successful film soundtrack albums, such as Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. At Universal and in my previous position at Polygram Island Music, I worked on projects as diverse as Notting Hill, Bridget Jones\' Diary, Breaking the Waves, Trainspotting, Welcome to Sarajevo and many of the UK’s most successful independent films. Both as a corporate employee and as an independent music supervisor, I\'ve worked closely with leading film directors as varied as Lars von Trier, Michael Winterbottom, Shane Meadows, Danny Boyle, Guy Richie, Niall Johnson and Marc Evans as well as many of their producers and production companies. I’m currently a trustee for the Deep Recording Trust music charity as well as consulting to a number of independent music, film production and media companies and regularly present seminars around the world. For the past nine years I’ve attended EAVE’s producer workshops as their ‘music expert’.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
