Biography

Alba Sotorra Clua is an independent producer and the founder of the audiovisual production company Alba Sotorra S.L., based in Barcelona. At Alba Sotorra Cinema Productions we produce independent films and series based on real stories and characters with international scope. With a technical and creative team mainly composed of women, we tell stories that move us because of their genuine gender-conscious and risky essence. Stories with a strong social and political commitment, on topics closely linked to present times. Motivated by the lack of diversity of points of view in cinema, we seek to open spaces for reflection from a perspective that is still under-represented in the film industry, the perspective of women. We want to be a leading international production company and reach new audiences by proposing new ways of viewing and understanding the complex reality that surrounds us. We have experience in international coproductions and a solid relationship with Spain and EU film funds and TV broadcasters. Our films have premiered at such international festivals as SXSW, HotDocs, Shanghai International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary, Rotterdam and Seminci. Our projects include the documentary feature film “Game Over” (2015), which received the VIII Gaudí Award from the Catalan Film Academy and “Comandante Arian” (2018), nominated for the Gaudí Awards for Best Documentary in 2019, “The End Will Be Spectacular” (2021), premiered at Rotterdam International Film Festival, and “The Return: Life after ISIS” (2021), selected for SXSW, Hot Docs, Sheffield, Thessaloniki, DOCS Barcelona, where it won the Young Jury Award and the Audience Award, the New York Kurdish Film Festival, Jerusalem, among others.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
