Biography

Carl has over three decades’ producing experience in the film and TV industries, laying the groundwork for fresh approaches across filmmaking procedures, financing and talent development. His ventures with the BBC, Channel4/Film4 and the BFI have embraced emerging technology, explored new workflows and kick-started the international careers of the talent involved. Carl produced Ben Whishaw starrer My Brother Tom, developed the series Heimat III with auteur director Edgar Reitz, a slate of feature films for Tall Stories and set up the Raindance production arm, Raindance Rawtalent. As a producer on Simon Rumley’s breakout The Living and the Dead, he currently develops two feature films with him. Drawing on his film industry experience, he is regularly invited to speak at festivals, film schools and training organisations and coproduction markets across Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. He is a BAFTA voting member and consultant producer at Swiss film production intelligence start-up Largo.ai. Carl founded ScreenTalk Oxfordshire and teaches Screenwriting for the British Film Institute and at the University of Oxford, where he also leads creative communities of artists and researchers. Student work has been screened on the BBC, Netflix, theatrical release in the UK, US, Russia and Germany as well as many international film festivals including Cannes and Berlin.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
