Biography

After graduating in North Carolina and Munich and starting out as a film editor, Tobias N. Siebert studied Production and Media Economics at the University for Television and Film Munich. For many years he worked as producer and general manager at BASIS BERLIN Filmproduktion, shaping numerous award-winning projects. Today, he remains a partner in BASIS BERLIN Postproduktion, one of Germany’s leading post-production houses. After taking some time to step back and recharge his creative batteries, he is now concentrating on teaching, consulting, and the development of high-end documentary projects. His films have won more than 75 international awards — from Sundance to Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Karlovy Vary and Vision du Réel — and received honors such as a DGA Award and Academy Award nominations: for The Story of the Weeping Camel and Of Fathers and Sons by Talal Derki. If there is a common thread in his work, it’s a search for stories that move, surprise, and sometimes even provoke audiences. Siebert is a member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the German Film Academy, the German Producers Association, and an alumnus of Sundance DFP, Documentary Campus and EAVE.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away in 2016. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
