Calls for application for: TFL FeatureLab and TFL Extended - TV Series, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Realness Residency, Inside Pictures

TFL FeatureLab 2019

Deadline to apply: February 28th, 2019

FeatureLab is TFL’s flagship programme for 1st and 2nd feature films at an advanced development stage.

It trains creative teams of director and producer (together with a scriptwriter, if on board) working on their 1st or 2nd feature film projects. Through 3 residential workshops taking place over a period of 6 months, the teams will focus on both artistic & creative aspects as well as on production & promotion strategies for their projects. The programme is open to different kind of cinema forms: fiction, creative documentaries, animation.

The training culminates at the TFL Meeting Event (November 2019), with the presentation of the projects to a selected group of producers, sales agents, distributors and other international professionals working in independent filmmaking. On this occasion, the FeatureLab projects vie for the TFL Production & Co-production Awards, while TFL’s partners award a variety of collateral prizes backing the further development, production or post-production of projects coming from different TFL programmes.

TFL Extended – TV Series

Deadline for applications: March 8th, 2019

TFL Extended – TV Series is aimed to individuals or teams of scriptwriters, directors, producers and story editors working on a TV Series project at an development early stage and who are willing to dive deep into the writing and production process.
The workshop is a combination of group sessions and masterclasses with TorinoFilmLab experts, with the goal of implementing expertise and knowledge to develop TV Series projects and acquire a deep understanding of markets, audiences and broadcasters. Other than the group sessions, the participants will also have the opportunity to discuss their work in one-to-one meetings with international high profile tutors.

TFL Extended – TV Series will be held in Turin from 12th to 15th April 2019.

BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2019

Deadline for applications: May 31, 2019

Celebrating excellence in filmmaking from around the world, ASFF is a platform for your students to showcase their work to international audiences, as well as an opportunity for them to learn about different career paths within the creative industries, boosting employability.

Submissions are open across 11 Short Films genres, including Comedy, Drama, Thriller and more, as well as Narrative and Documentary Feature Films, and Virtual Reality, 360 & Immersive Films.
ASFF continues to expand and provide more opportunities for students, with successful entries previously coming from leading institutions across the UK, as well as from around the world; such as University of Canberra, Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Chapman University, and many more.

Prizes include:

  • Screen at a major BAFTA-Qualifying UK and International Festival
  • Awards for Best of Category, Festival Winner (£1,000) & People's Choice
  • Further exposure with editorial coverage in Aesthetica Magazine
  • Screenings in various guest programmes at other film festival & events

Realness Residency 2019

Submission deadline is January 3, 2019

All emerging African filmmakers who wish to apply for this opportunity to develop their scripts in the idyllic setting of the Cradle of Humankind with Nirox Foundation need to submit their applications asap.

Realness alumni have gone on to be selected for the Sundance Directors and Screenwriters labs, Biennale Cinema College and TorinoFilmLab Script Lab among others, while also receiving grants from prestigious funding institutions, such as Hubert Bals.

“Realness has given me the creative freedom and nurturing an artist can sometimes only dream of. It has pushed me forward and in greater depths by precise and brilliant mentoring, tailored to the specific needs of my project. Realness has also given me a trusted network that I can always go back to for advice and support and has already opened multiple doors for me,” Kantarama Gahagiri (Rwanda), 2018 Realness alumnus.

Inside Pictures

Deadline for applications: February 7, 2019

This top level and highly regarded programme is for 20 ambitious executives and producers who want to lead the film industry into the digital future. Comprised of three intensive one-week modules and a tailored project, Inside Pictures takes place in London and Los Angeles between June 2019 and January 2020. The focus of the programme will be to develop the cutting edge industry business knowledge, management skills, profile and cross-industry contact network needed for leaders from across the industry to thrive in the global business of film. Seminars, workshops, studio visits and events will cover all aspects of the international film business - from development through production, financing, worldwide distribution, marketing and exhibition and latest digital developments.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away on March 3. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
