CALL MUM! by Lisa Aschan, producer: EAVE graduate Anna-Maria Kantarius is shooting. The film deals with one of the most difficult and humorous relationships – the one between a mother and a daughter. Written by Aschan, CALL MUM!! focuses on three generations of women and their struggles to communicate with each other. The story is about the impossible equation between parents, who live their whole lives expecting a “thank you” from their children, and on the other hand children, who for their part expect an “I’m sorry”. She also promises that this will not be a film about her own relationships, but her roles as a daughter and a mother have, of course, inspired her. She notes that as a daughter, she thought that she knew it all – that is, until she became a mother herself and had to re-evaluate her beliefs. CALL MUM! is being produced by Anna-Maria Kantarius, of Garagefilm International, with SF Studios, in association with Film i Väst and SVT and has received the support of the Swedish Film Institute and the Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Principal photography has been under way in Gothenburg since late October and will continue until December.

ROUNDS by EAVE graduate Stephan Komandarev, producer: EAVE graduate Katya Trichkova is in production. The screenplay, written by Simeon Ventsislalov and Komandarev himself, is inspired by real-life events and follows three teams of police officers over the course of one night in Sofia, exactly 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall (9 November 1989) and the fall of communism in Bulgaria (10 November 1989). Through the events faced by the police officers, Rounds will analyse the current state of affairs in Bulgaria. The film, the second part in a trilogy that started with his previous film DIRRECTIONS, is a co-production between Argo Film, Serbian production company See Film Pro, French outfits Deuxième Ligne Films and EZ Films. The Bulgarian National Film Centre Film Center Serbia and Eurimages supported the project. Production started with extensive rehearsals in September, followed by a few days of preliminary shots in October. The rest of the shooting days are planned for November and December, with a wrap expected at the beginning of January.

HALF SISTER by Damjan Kozole, producers: EAVE graduates Danijel Hocevar, Macedonian national coordinator Labina Mitevska is shooting. The screenplay focuses on two estranged half-sisters from the small coastal town of Izola, whom circumstances force to live together in a small apartment in Ljubljana. "This is a film about people who do not know how to communicate," Kozole told cineuropa. "It is a critical but simultaneously an understanding outlook on life, characterised by family patterns, uncertain feelings, chauvinism, feelings of existential loss, lack of adherence and, last but not least, feelings of guilt because of actions that we have not committed ourselves. I see HALF SISTER as a film of emotional tension on one hand, while on the other hand, it is full of dramatic spontaneity and moments of human folly, humour and fortune. We live in dangerous times in which lunatics and psychopaths prosper – and therefore all that we have left is compassion. That and humour." HALF SISTER is a co-production by Slovenia's Vertigo, RTV Slovenija, Macedonia's Sisters and Brother Mitevski, Serbia's Bas Celik and Croatia's Propeler Film. The movie was co-financed by the Slovenian Film Centre, Film Center Serbia and the Macedonian Film Agency, while Viba Film Studio is partaking in the production as well.

WILDFIRE by Cathy Brady, producer: EAVE graduate Carlo Cresto-Dina is filming in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The feature debut by Irish director Cathy Brady’s tells the story of two sisters who grew up on the fractious Irish border. When one of them, who has gone missing, finally returns home, the intense bond with her sister is re-ignited. Together they unearth their mother’s past, but as they uncover the secrets and resentments that have been buried deep down, it all threatens to overwhelm them. An Irish-UK co-production, WILDFIRE was supported through development and production by the BFI, Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen and the Wellcome Trust. Film4 and Sulcata Productions also co-financed the production. Lizzie Francke, Celine Haddad, Lauren Dark, Emma Duffy, Robert Halmi and Jim Reeve are the executive producers.

JETS Co-Production Initiative
Deadline: December 20, 2018

The groundbreaking initiative aims to connect early-career filmmakers from Europe and North America with producers, sales agents and industry decision-makers.
The acronym stands for Junior Entertainment Talent Slate, and will bring first-, second- and third-time feature filmmakers into contact with Canadian, German, Irish, Finnish, Norwegian, British and American producers, sales agents, and finance and distribution companies, during a co-production pitching session to be held at the next edition of the Berlin International Film Festival.
The JETS programme launched by North American and European film bodies will select 20-24 projects proposed by emerging filmmakers based in Canada, Ireland, Germany, Finland, Norway and the UK. The team must be in the first six years of their career, with the exception of the producer (who must have up to ten years of experience in the industry and a maximum of two feature-film credits).
All eligible projects must be fiction films in development or at the financing stage, and must have a duration of at least 80 minutes.

Meet the NORDIC COMPOSERS during Berlinale!

Thank you for the music!

Or maybe, you do not have any music at all...?

Frankly speaking, you know that your new project would benefit from working with an original and professional composer. Speedmeeting with Nordic composers at Norway House gives you the chance to meet Nordic filmcomposers!

Nordic film and TV has been in the vogue for quite some time now, introducing the world to series like The Killing, Borgen, The Bridge (Broen), Wallander and Skam and films from Kaurismäki, Lars von Trier, Jan Hamer, to name a few. In short, there is a lot of quality to be found here, not the least in the music – now you have the chance to meet these composers.

The rules of a speed meeting are simple:

Each director/producer gets to meet each composer - and vice versa. A meeting lasts 9 minutes, then a bell is sounded and you move onto the next meeting.

It is fun, it is enlightening and there is a meet and greet afterwards.

Speedmeeting with the Nordic Composers

MONDAY FEB 11th, 2019, 3 – 4.15 pm
NORWAY HOUSE at EUROPEAN FILM MARKET
by Martin-Gropius Bau, Niederkirchnerstrasse
