PriFORUM CALL FOR PARTICIPATION FOR EAVE PRODUCERS
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION FOR EAVE PRODUCERS
Dear EAVE producers,
PriFORUM invites EAVE producers from Europe to be part of the regional forum of Prishtina International Film Festival this year in April 26/27 and have the opportunity to meet the young producers from the Balkan region and to be part of the pitching presentation of projects from Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo.
PriFORUM is an industry platform of PriFest and a meeting point for regional filmmakers. PriFORUM will take place this year on 26 and 27of April, within the 6th edition of PriFest – Prishtina International Film Festival (25 April – 02 May 2014).
Besides a conference on the regional industry issues, PriFORUM will organise the Best Pitch Award competition. The Best Pitch Award will be selected by the International Jury and will be handed to the best presentation of the 4F - first feature fiction film project, of the director.
The festival will cover accommodation and food expenses for three nights.

- PILGRIMAGE by Brendan Muldowney, producers: EAVE 2010 graduate Connor Barry and EAVE 2010 graduate Benoit Roland is about a group of monks who must escort a holy relic across war-torn 13th century Ireland.
- LE TOUT NOUVEAU TESTAMENT by Jaco Van Dormael, producers: EAVE 1991 and EAVE+ 2014 graduate Paul Thiltges, EAVE 2011 and EAVE+ 2013 graduate David Grumbach. Shooting is due to take place this summer.

- JANE AUSTEN’S LOVE & FRIENDSHIP by Whit Stillman, producer: EAVE 2005 graduate Katie Holly is in development. The comedy in classic Austen style is about the beautiful and scheming Lady Susan who attempts to find a husband for herself and her long-suffering daughter Federica. Financed by the Irish Film Board, the film is going to be shot on locations in Ireland.
- The Estonian Film Institute has allocated support for four feature projects from its International Minority Co-Production Fund. The largest chunk was allocated to the Finnish-Estonian-German co-production THE FENCER by Klaus Härä, producer: EAVE 1999 graduate Kaarle Aho. The film received EURIMAGES-support in October 2013. Shooting will start in Estonia in March.
Interchange 2011 project BREATHE shooting in Lebanon
- THE PRESIDENT by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, co-producer: EAVE 2011 graduate Vladimer Katchavara, co-producer EAVE 2011 and EAVE+ 2013 graduate David Grumbach is shooting. The story is set in a fictional Caucasus country and is about a dictator whose regime is brought down by a coup d’etat. He and his young grandson have to travel across the country disguised as street musicians, and he gets to know the ordinary people he ruled in a new light. Funded by Eurimages, the film is shot on locations in Georgia.
- Interchange 2011 project BREATHE, directed by Interchange 2011 graduate Jihane Chouaib started shooting in Lebanon.

UNCLE TONY, THREE FOOLS AND THE SECRET SERVICE reaches unprecedented box office in Bulgaria
UNCLE TONY, THREE FOOLS AND THE SECRET SERVICE, the documentary by Mina Mileva, produced by EAVE 2013 graduate Vesela Kazakova has made an unprecedented box office in Bulgaria. The film made a huge wave of controversy within the country. Their production company activist 38 is now working on the international premiere.

MIDPOINT is an international script development training program for graduating students, recent graduates and young film professionals which aims to support the writer, director and producer in the development process. MIDPOINT was conceived at FAMU Prague (CZ) in partnership with film schools VŠMU Bratislava (SK), PWSFTviT Lódz (PL), UNATC Bucharest (RO), SZFE Budapest (HU) and dffb Berlin (DE).
The three-month training program includes two residential workshops and on-line consultations with tutors:
Workshop I: June 20 – 27, 2014 – Trencianske Teplice, Slovakia (during Art Film Fest IFF)
On-line session: July 2014
Workshop II: August 22 – 30, 2014 – Prague and Ponesice, Czech Republic
Requirements:

FINGAL FILM FESTIVAL

The Fingal Film Festival was launched in 2012. It is a new entity that offers a platform encouraging and promoting the works of local film community and National, International emerging filmmakers to showcase their work in an environment where they have access to experienced industry professionals.
We provide workshops, training programmes and screen Independent films from new emerging film makers nationally and internationally throughout the four day festival event every year.
At least 70% of our festival schedule is dedicated to Foreign films, which broadens the film culture experience to all who attend the screenings in Fingal during the festivals duration.
The Fingal Film Festival is a team of people who work effortlessly to deliver a quality service to young emerging filmmakers. Over the years we have developed relationships with most of the media colleges on the perimeters of Fingal and have had contributions to the festival form part of the colleges’ curriculum. In 2013 we introduced an award specifically for students of these colleges. It is part of our strategy to roll this initiative out on a International scale in the coming years. Since we first opened our doors we have given festival contributors access to some of the Industries most prolific names, both nationally and internationally, which has been well received by all who attended. We have eight awards a year for Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, Best Short, Best International, Best Student, Best Newcomer Award in Fingal, Best Irish Language, Best Animation. Our Awards Ceremony Night is held every year at the end of the festival.

OPEN DOORS 2014: ONE DIVERSE SIDE OF AFRICA
Dear EAVE producers,
EAVE is delighted to continue its partnership with OPEN DOORS taking place from August 8-12, 2014 during the Locarno Film Festival (August 6-16, 2014).
At the same time, the successful Locarno Industry Days will be organized again. EAVE producers (with special priority to producers interested in coproducing with the Sub-Saharan African region) have the unique possibility to participate in OPEN DOORS in order to meet the selected filmmakers and producers and to come and discover the Locarno film festival. The selected producers will be invited by the festival providing accreditation & accommodation during the event (4 nights).
In 2014 the OPEN DOORS section will focus on 25 countries of Sub-Saharan Africa (mainly the English and Portuguese speaking regions): Angola, Botswana, Cape Verde, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Around 12 projects will be selected and the directors and producers of the chosen projects will be present in Locarno and available for pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings.
The selection will be announced in Cannes and the project information will be available online in a protected area of the Locarno Film Festival's website www.pardo.ch.

The 11th Sofia Meetings will take place from 13th until 16th of March 2014 in the framework of the 18th Sofia International Film Festival.
Sofia Meetings is a coproduction market. It consists of Fiction Feature Films Pitching - presentation for first, second orthird feature film projects by directors/producers from Europe, looking for financial partners (producers, funds, sales, distributors) and Balkan Screenings – presentation of new films from Bulgaria and the Balkan region to festival representatives, sales companies and distributors.
The programme consists of presentation of the projects, followed by one to one meetings, panel discussions, case studies and many other additional events.
Thanks to the partnership between Sofia Meetings and EAVE 6 EAVE producers who are interested to attend Sofia Meetings will be invited.
The festival will offer accommodation for the period of the market.

For the sixth time in 2014 and after the great success in 2013, Ties that Bind – Asia Europe Producers Workshop will be organised again in 2014 in partnership with Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, EAVE, Udine Far East Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival / Asian Project Market.
The Ties that Bind 2014 workshop will take place in Udine (Italy) in April 2014 within the framework of the Udine Far East Film Festival (April 25 - May 3, 2014), supported by ASEF (Asia-Europe Foundation).
A second event will be organized in October 2014 during the Busan International Film Festival (October 2 – 11, 2014) in South Korea with the support of Creative Europe (TBC).
Ties that Bind will bring together 10 film producers from Asian and European countries. Each producer will be selected together with a feature film project in development and will work with leading industry experts from both continents during the two workshops. Amongst a range of issues, sessions will focus on script development, co-production between Asia and Europe, financing in the two regions, marketing and promotion, and the legal aspects of co-production. The workshop participants will work together as a group, as well as through individual consultation, and will have the unusual opportunity to get to know each other very well with the object of forming long term creative and business partnerships and networks. In Busan in October 2014, the participants will be able to have meetings with leading Asian and European funders, sales agents, and potential co-producers during the Asian Project Market.
The workshop will enable feature film producers from both continents to work together in two four-day workshops and will offer the 10 selected participants:
- top level professional and project development,
- work on the comprehensive development of European and Asian projects,
- cooperation and co-production on these and future projects,
- the creation of in-depth awareness of the audiovisual market and operating conditions, legal frameworks, financing, sales, distribution and exhibition practices in both continents,
- networking between the participants and their companies to create medium and long term informational co-financing and co-production relationships,
- access to a network of producers, markets, festivals and decision makers in both continents.
Target group:
Experienced feature film producers from Asia (Japan, Korea, China incl. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia) andEurope (European Union and the countries mentioned in the following document: http://ec.europa.eu/culture/creative-europe/documents/eligible-countries.pdf) wishing to work on an international scale and to create long term creative and business relationships between Europe and Asia. Interested producers should apply with a feature film project in development stage. European producers applying must be able to demonstrate a clear involvement with Asia and vice versa.
Project criteria:
- feature-length fiction film (for theatrical release)
- projects suitable for an international co-production and looking for co-producers
- preferably a minimum of 20% should be in place
- projects suggested by European applicants should have a link to Asia (thematic, cultural, technical) and the producer should be motivated to work with / in Asia and vice versa
- projects suggested by applicants should have a potential for co-production
- applicants must be the lead producer of the submitted project
- producer must have completed at least one film released in the last 3 years (theatrically, TV, DVD, VOD)
- 1st draft of the script available in English for the workshop

Scripts are to be sent only on request but should be ready in time for the first workshop.
All documents have to be sent in English – the working language of the workshop will be English.
Participation fees & conditions:
The participation at Ties That Bind is free of charge. Each participant will be offered accommodation during the workshop stay (full board including meals). In addition, we will offer a number of partial scholarships to contribute to the travel costs.
