Crowdfunding SHOOT ME. KISS ME. CUT.

SHOOT ME. KISS ME. CUT. by Nico von Glasow about a rich London teenager who meets a prostitute in a chatroom seeks support on Kickstarter. The story: When Flora, an online prostitute, meets Sam in a chatroom, he tells her about a film competition he is entering and the £10,000 prize money. Desperate to get custody of her daughter back, she decides to get involved and with the help of their very different friends they begin to make their own version of Romeo & Juliet. But when each of their personal issues start to interfere with the film, what follows is an eruption of power, parties, fights, sex and love. This is the story about the making of their film.

The team needs help to finish this film! They've completed 90% of filming, but there is still much more to do. “The money we manage to raise here will help us to: pay for our travel and filming costs; pay for the equipment we borrowed/rented; pay the production crew for the time they've given and continue to give us; market and distribute our film.

But you should know that the target we've set here is less than the total cost of this film. Hitting it would be excellent and a huge help to us, and any excess funds we do manage to raise will go towards the budget so that we make this film even better!”

Upcoming deadlines

CLOSING THE GAP: EQUITY INVESTMENT TRAINING & PITCHING

Application deadline is: 18 February 2014.

Seeking funding for your film, TV, or transmedia project?

Interested in pitching to equity investors?

Want to learn how to close your project’s budget gap?

Closing The Gap is a training course and pitching session for film, TV, and transmedia producers organized by creative industries financing consultancy peacefulfish (Berlin/London/Brussels/Cannes) in association with the pan-European investor network Media Deals (Paris/Berlin) and with the support of the Apulia Film Commission (Italy) and the Investitionsbank Berlin (Germany).

Launched in 2010 with co-financing from the MEDIA Programme of the European Commission and now in its 5th edition, Closing The Gap has been attended by over 65 international producers. The course addresses methods to identify, approach, and pitch to equity investors, teaching business skills that producers can use to find additional sources of financing in the current financial climate.

  • Investors participating on the pitch panel include:
  • individual business angels
  • representatives of business angel funds
  • venture capital financiers
  • gap equity fund managers

Through Closing The Gap, producers learn innovative financing strategies, prepare business plan content and pitch presentations targeted to an equity investor audience, have a range of networking opportunities with the invited investors and tutors, receive extensive one-to-one feedback and pitch coaching and—at the course’s conclusion—pitch their projects to a panel of equity investors.

Producers should apply with a specific project. About half the projects selected will be early stage and about half will be late stage (in past editions, we have had projects at the treatment/script phase as well as projects in post-production, and several of the investors on our pitch panel can investment in development while several invest in production).

The course fee is 900 euro per producer, which includes the individual Skype consultations with the course tutors, access to the two on-site sessions (the financing strategies workshop and the equity investor pitching event), and lunches and some dinners for the attending producer during the on-site sessions. Producers must cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Scholarships are available from peacefulfish

For additional information about Closing The Gap including locations and dates of the on-site sessions, as well as to download the application form, visit: www.closing-the-gap.net

DOK.Incubator: New Call Opened

DEADLINE: MARCH 3th 2014!

Apparently, the age-old documentary has been brought to its knees. To call broadcasters to invest massive amounts of money into the creative productions – like they did in the last decades – is, despite their good will, like beating a dead horse. But actually, there is still an audience, ready to come to the cinema, to a festival, to watch, support, and promote these films; but just the outstanding, special, excellent ones. So what is the difference between a good and an excellent documentary? Time, money, and a lot of energy.

DOK.Incubator has come to support documentary projects in the rough-cut stage, willing to work hard – and fly high. For half a year more than 20 experienced lecturers will inspire eight selected films from all over Europe, each represented by three team members (producer, director, editor). They will be working vigorously in the editing room, building a clever, tailor-made distribution plan and marketing strategy, as well as meeting with important international distributors.

The workshop is divided into three week-long residential sessions:

  • May 18th -25th Krakow /PL/ = ROUGH CUT
  • August 24th – 31st Bratislava /SK/ or Prague /CZ/ (TBC) = FINE CUT
  • October 25th – 30th Leipzig /DE/ = PRESENTATION

START FOR THE 2ND EDITION OF EAVE+!

Start for the 2nd edition of EAVE+!

After a successful launch in September 2013, EAVE+ goes into the second round.

13 experienced producers from 11 countries and 6 high-profile industry experts will gather during 4 days to discuss their company structures, management practices and new business models. Find the full list of participants at the end of the press release.

The second edition of EAVE+ takes place from January 9-12, 2014 at the hotel Le Place D’Armes in Luxembourg.
Among the guests this time are Norwegian producer Sigve Endresen (Motlys), who will present a case study of his production company and give insight into managing practices in times of transition.

Jean Labadie (Le Pacte, FR) will give a walk-through of his successes, failures and how to survive in an ever-changing distribution environment.

Marc Bordure (Agat Films, FR) will present concrete ways and tools how to handle the financial management and cashflow of a production company.

Management coach Michael Comyn (IE) will work with the producers on leadership, management skills and personal resilience.

Led by EAVE Head of Studies Jani Thiltges (Samsa Film, LU) together with EAVE+ consultant Michael Weber (The Match Factory, DE), the keynote sessions by the guest speakers are completed by group work session and 1-2-1 meetings.

Some comments from the first edition:

« I thought it was a great four days and served as a real think tank for experienced  producers to gain perspective on our changing world. »

Mike S. Ryan, Greyshack Films, USA

« Since EAVE+, things are different and better as thanks to the participants and experts, It really changes my vision about our film industry, my company and... myself. »

David Grumbach, BAC Films, F

"EAVE+ was extremely useful on many levels - practical information on a range of subjects from promoting films on VoD platforms to how to work on one's resilience in stressful situations to raising private equity and managing those investor relationships. The networking element also really paid off in terms of finding a co-producer with access to a national fund in a country where one of my projects takes place, and that funding application is now underway. »

Natasha Dack, Tigerlily Films, UK

« It was hughly inspiring and interesting to look back and forward at our companies and the ever changing film environment in a greatly open atmosphere with an international group of colleque creative entrepeneurs. Priceless and inspiring to share thoughts and ideas, weakness and strengths about leading our companies and the ever changing film environment. »

Hanneke Niens, KeyFilm, The Netherlands

« The combination of people both participants and experts was magnificent and lead to a complete openness that I could not have imagined possible between a group of professionals at this stage of their careers. It was like an AA for producers, very painful but critical for our wellbeing.  Am looking at everything since quite differently. »

Christine Alderson, Ipso Facto Films, UK
