In Post-Production April 2017
- THE GULF by Emre Yeksan, producers: EAVE graduates Anna Maria Aslanoğlu, Asli Filiz and Maria Drandaki is in post-production. The screenplay, written by the director and Ahmet Büke, revolves around an apathetic man, 32-year-old Selim, who returns to his hometown Izmir at a moment when his personal life and professional career are in ruins. Selim, who doesn’t want to plan his future, decides to reconnect with his past friends, his family and the energy that his old town offers him. However, this new adventure takes an unexpected turn when an unbearable smell spreads over the city. Regarding the idea behind the story of THE GULF, Yeksan explains that he tried to capture the increasing sense that we are living on the edge of a manmade disaster or another world war. After appearing at multiple acclaimed development workshops and co-production markets — Meetings on the Bridge, CineLink, Ekran+, Les Arcs— the project is now almost complete and is currently in post-production. The film is supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Berlinale’s World Cinema Fund, the Greek Film Centre and Swiss fund Visions Sud Est. The project was shot last summer in Izmir, which also happens to be Yeksan’s home town.
- SOLDIERS. A STORY FROM FERENTARI by Ivana Mladenovic, producer: EAVE graduate and Romanian Coordinator Ada Solomon is in post-production. Based on the autobiographical book of the same name by Adrian Schiop, the screenplay was written by Mladenovic and Schiop. It centres on Adi, a young anthropologist writing his PhD thesis about the manele, the music of the Roma community. To get closer to the topic, Adi moves to Ferentari, the Roma neighbourhood in Bucharest. He feels like an intruder in a world governed by different rules, but his attraction to Alberto, a thirty-something “local” ex-convict, will represent both a step forward and a challenge in Adi’s life. Co-producing companies are Film House Bas Celik (Serbia) and Frakas Productions (Belgium).
- THE MINER by Hanna Slak, producer: EAVE graduate Sinisa Juricic is in post-production. The film tells the story of a miner from the Zasavje coal region, who, instructed to open a sealed mining shaft, finds much more behind the wall than merely an abandoned mine. Through the eyes of an immigrant the film unveils the dark side of Slovenian recent history, seeking a solution for the complex conflicts between the people and the miner's warm humanity. The film is a Slovenian/Croatian/German coproduction. The project is supported by the Slovenian Film Center and Viba film. Shooting took place in November - December 2016 and the premiere is scheduled for Autumn 2017.
