PUENTES – EUROPE / LATIN AMERICA PRODUCERS WORKSHOP 2014:  CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The call for applications for the sixth edition of PUENTES – Europe / Latin America Producers Workshop is now open until August 15, 2014. Throughout the 5 years of its existence, PUENTES has become the most relevant and successful training programme for developing European-Latin American co-production with exceptionally good results in terms of sales and distribution and festival exposure: 69% of the finalised projects developed at PUENTES got an international sales agent on board and over 84,6% of the projects have a successful festival exposure.

Recent examples of successful PUENTES projects in terms of festivals and international distribution are HISTORIA DEL MIEDO by Benjamin Naishtat (Berlinale Competition 2014), FERIADO by Diego Araujo (Berlinale Generation 14+ 2014), TANTA AGUA by Ana Guevara & Leticia Jorge (Berlinale Panorama 2013), TRES by Pablo Stoll (Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2012) and GLORIA by Sebatian Lelio (Berlinale Competition 2013) which was sold to 29 countries world-wide.

All the above mentioned projects had been selected for the PUENTES / Europe Latin America Producers Workshop, where the projects were developed over one year by the attending producers under the guidance of top notch consultants, working on the script development, the financial, co-productionmarketing and distribution strategies and where the producers extended their professional network meeting key players of the industry in Europe and Latin America.

New features in 2014/2015:

PUENTES is targeted at Latin American & European producers with projects, 10 of which will be selected for the workshop. We are now opening the call in addition also to other European professionals interested in working with Latin America (sales agents, financiers, distributors, festival programmers, co-production market representatives) or producers without project. 4 of them will be selected to be an active part of the group.

The 2 workshops will be held in Montevideo (November 27-December 1, 2014) in partnership with Mutante Cine and Locarno (August 2015) in partnership with the Locarno International Film Festival and its Industry Days. APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR THE 3rd EDITION OF EAVE+

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR THE 3rd EDITION OF EAVE+

for experienced producers from Europe and the rest of the world!

After two successful editions in September 2013 and January 2014, EAVE+ goes into the third round. 12-15 experienced producers and 6 high-profile industry experts will gather during 4 days to discuss their company structures, management practices and new business models.

The third edition of EAVE+ will take place during September 17-21, 2014 at the hotel Le Place D’Armes in Luxembourg.

Applications are open for independent producers with a solid track record and international experience from Europe and the rest of the world until June 26, 2014.

A limited number of scholarships are available for participants from selected MEDIA countries.

Led by EAVE Head of Studies Jani Thiltges (Samsa Film, LU) together with EAVE+ consultant Michael Weber (The Match Factory, DE), keynote sessions by international guests will be mixed with group work sessions and 1-2-1 meetings.

Among the guests this time are German producer Stefan Arndt who will run a company case study about his production and distribution outlets X-Filme and X-Verleih. Management coach Michael Comyn (IE) will work with the producers on leadership, management skills and personal resilience. Anne Flamant (Head of the cinema department at the OBCNeuflize bank in France) will give an overview of new ways of film financing in the French film industry. US indie producer Mike S. Ryan will share his experience with and provide insight into the world of the American independents.

Some comments from the previous editions:

« I thought it was a great four days and served as a real think tank for experienced producers to gain perspective on our changing world. »

Mike S. Ryan, Greyshack Films, USA

« The EAVE+ workshop was extremely useful on many levels - practical information on a range of subjects from promoting films on VoD platforms to how to work on one's resilience in stressful situations to raising private equity and managing those investor relationships. The networking element also really paid off in terms of finding a co-producer with access to a national fund in a country where one of my projects takes place, and that funding application is now underway.»

Natasha Dack, Tigerlily Films, UK

« It was hugely inspiring and interesting to look back and forward at our companies and the ever changing film environment in a greatly open atmosphere with an international group of colleague creative entrepreneurs. Priceless and inspiring to share thoughts and ideas, weakness and strengths about leading our companies and the ever changing film environment. »

Hanneke Niens, KeyFilm, The Netherlands

« It was the perfect moment for me and my partner to come to EAVE +, … (the) best moment to take a look… and see how it works for people with (the) same passion, but living and working in a completely different environment. »

Fernando Epstein, Mutante Cine, Uruguay

« The combination of people both participants and experts was magnificent and lead to a complete openness that I could not have imagined possible between a group of professionals at this stage of their careers. It was like an AA for producers, very painful but critical for our wellbeing. I am looking at everything since quite differently. »

Christine Alderson, Ipso Facto Films, UK

EAVE+ is organised twice a year in Luxembourg with different keynote speakers and topics addressed at each workshop session.

EAVE+ is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU and the Luxembourg Film Fund.

During the first two workshops, in March and June, participants work within groups led by experienced producers and with several experts on script analysis, development and production financing, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching, packaging and more. In the third week in October/November, around 50-60 Decision Makers (commissioning editors, national and regional media funds, sales agents, etc.) join the participants to discuss the projects, companies and careers of the participants, a process which offers unusual access to Europe's Decision Makers.

EAVE graduates join a unique network of active European producers which forms one of the backbones of the industry. Furthermore, EAVE participants and members benefit from our partnerships with the leading European film festivals and markets where EAVE facilitates graduate participation.

EUROPEAN GAP-FINANCING CO-PRODUCTION MARKET

Venice, August 29th and 30th

Deadline for the registration of the projects : 27th June, 2014

The Venice International Film Festival plays a central role in the worldwide recognition of quality films from all over the world and especially from Europe. Created in 2012, the Venice Film Market (VFM) is devoted to offer to the key cinema industry players a new rendez-vous and platform to present and discover high-quality films and projects.

The VFM has thus decided to launch a new kind of co-production market targeted to the industry professionals attending the Festival.

The Venice European Gap-Financing Co-Production Market is a platform to support the European producers to secure the final financing of their projects through one-to-one meetings with potential and pertinent international professionals (producers, sales agents, distributors, financiers, broadcasters and funds).

This two days event (August 29th and 30th) will take place during the forthcoming edition of the Venice Film Market (August 28th, September 2nd) and will offer the 16 selected projects (8 European and 8 Italian) the opportunity to close their international financing.

A tailor-made initiative of this kind requests a real confidentiality for the producers and the partners already in place and a first Project line-up will therefore be sent to selected potential financiers and professionals in order to allow them to register to this co-production market.

The catalogue detailing each film project will then be emailed to the registered professionals by the end of July/beginning of August 2014 to entitle them to request 30-minute one-to-one meeting with the producers of the selected projects. The Venice European Gap-Financing Co-Production Market will set up these meetings in accordance with the availability of the participants and meetings slots. Each participant will receive a personalised meeting schedule a few days before the event.
