EAVE November News 2012

EAVE European Producers Workshop 2012 culminated in Amsterdam

The EAVE 2012 European Producers Workshop came to a close with its third and last workshop held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (November 5-12), organised in partnership with Binger Filmlab and CTM LEV Pictures.

During this final workshop, the 52 participants from 30 countries had the opportunity to meet 50 high-profile European professionals from the industry* in 647 pre-scheduled one-to-one encounters and numerous informal meetings in order to pitch the 31 projects that were developed during this year's EAVE training cycle. (*Please find the complete list of Decision Makers here.)

EAVE has the pleasure to announce that this workshop ended with some very positive and concrete results for the 2012 graduates and their projects.

Among the hit projects that were highlighted by the attending decision makers were for example the documentaries 36 VIEWS – MOUNT FUJI (producer: Annemiek Van der Hell, The Netherlands) and THE UNDERTAKER: COFFINS AND AIRPLANES (producer: Jovana Nikolic, Serbia), as well as the feature films THE RED CAPTAIN (producer: Michal Kollar, Czech Republic/Slovakia), THE STORY SELLER (producer: Kristine Knudsen, Norway), THE UNLIVING (producer Bonnie Skoog Feeney, Sweden) and WHERE WE’LL NEVER GROW OLD (producer: Jacqueline Kerrin, Ireland).

A couple of EAVE 2012 projects were directly picked up for upcoming co-production markets: STAGE FRIGHT by producer Maria Drandaki was selected for Torino Film Lab and THE TREE by producer Vlado Bulaji? (Slovenia) was selected for Baltic Event. Congratulations!

And as EAVE is also the ideal platform for networking, several projects found co-producers amongst EAVE colleagues from the same year and/or from earlier years, for example BAYARD (producer Katleen Goossens; co-producer EAVE 2012 graduate Annemiek van der Hell), LORDI (producer Venla Hellstedt; co-producer EAVE 2012 graduate Martin Heisler), OUR SUN (producer: Ellen Havenith; co-producer EAVE 2012 guest expert Bart van Langendonck), SECOND LIFE (producer: Viktor Huszár; co-producers EAVE 2012 graduate Kalin Kalinov, EAVE 2009 graduate Ferenc Pusztai and EAVE 2009 graduate Arash T. Riahi), SHADOW (producer Marie Kjellson; co-producer EAVE 2012 graduate Martin Heisler), STAGE FRIGHT (producer Maria Drandaki; co- producer EAVE 2007 graduate Sinisha Juricic)

EAVE wishes all the 2012 graduates good luck for their future and thanks all the attending decision makers, experts and the pedagogical team for sharing their expertise and experience with the participants.

We also want to express our gratitude to Binger Filmlab and CTM LEV Pictures, for their great contribution in successfully running the workshop.

The EAVE 2012 European Producers Workshop was supported by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, Film Fund Luxembourg, Croatian Audiovidual Centre, Binger Filmlab, CTM LEV Pictures, Netherlands Film Fund, Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and EYE Film Institute.

The Doc Outlook – International Market (DOCM) at Visions du Réel International Film Festival announces it’s 2013’s call for creative feature-length documentary projects

Deadline for submissions is 17th of December 2012.

The main target of Pitching du Réel is to encourage international co-productions and to help finance outstanding documentary projects for an international audience. The project teams may find international partners and financing support, discuss current questions of filmmaking, foster their knowledge and use the various networking possibilities in a pleasant, relaxed environment.

We are looking for creative, fresh, high-quality documentary projects with theatrical potential, which combine artistic ambition with passion for the subject and commitment to the protagonists. We are interested in presenting projects within the great diversity of the cinéma du réel, including projects connected with visual arts and those intended for different platforms and contexts. We welcome projects by experienced as well as by new directors, who should have at least directed short films. The project may be at any stage of development, but basic funding will be appreciated (for more information see Rules & Regulations).

After a four hours pitch training, the 15 selected projects will be presented with a 7 minutes pitch (no public Q&A) to international film professionals including co-producers, commissioning editors, film financiers, distributors, contemporary art curators etc. and then discussed at round tables and in one-to-one meetings.

Post Production Award HEAD, Geneva

For the second time, there will be a postproduction award for one project, offered by the Cinema/cinéma du réel Department of Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève). It supports a creative documentary project with a modest budget and affirmed ambition by providing all the facilities for editing, colour correction and sound mixing in professional conditions.

To apply with a project for the Pitching du Réel (23-25 th April 2013), please complete the entry form online: http://vp.eventival.eu/vdr/2013
