Upcoming Deadlines August 2011

EAVE Film Marketing Workshop, Luxembourg, November 30 – December 4, 2012
Deadline for application: October 14, 2011.

The Film Marketing Workshop emphasizes a ‘hands-on’ and practical approach using current films and modern marketing techniques in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere.

Much of the programme takes the form of a round table during which a variety of high level professionals make presentations and lead discussion. All participants are encouraged to take a full part throughout the workshop including working on marketing plans for an unreleased feature. During the one-to-one sessions participants present their projects and receive expert feedback and advice.

This 4-day intensive workshop is an in depth training for film professionals (e.g. producers, distributors, sales agents, marketing staff) covering all the necessary stages of film marketing.

It is designed to assist participants on how to position their films with a primary focus on the most cost-effective ways to market their projects and includes the following areas:

• maximising the online environment

• marketing to financiers

• approaching buyers

• completing presales and sales

• mastering legal issues

• budgeting marketing items

• planning cost-effectively

• using press and public relations

• creating visual design (sales sheets, brochures, posters)

• working with trailers and showreels editors

• matching distributors’ needs

• targeting international markets & festivals

All these aspects are analysed through current industry examples enabling participants to apply them to their own projects.

European Producers Workshop 2012 APPLY NOW!

Deadline for APPLICATIONS: September 30, 2011

Train, develop, network. A year long programme focussed on three intensive weeks featuring professional development through working on the development of fiction and documentary projects.

WORKSHOP 1 in Luxembourg (LU), 12 - 19 MARCH 2012

EAVE, European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs, is one of the leading training and development providers for producers in Europe, renowned for its European Producers Workshop.

Who is it for?

EAVE is aimed at producers, both fiction and documentary, who are already working in the film and television industries who wish to begin to operate on a European wide basis by increasing their knowledge of producing and co-producing in Europe and by building up a pan European professional network. We also welcome applications from associated branches of the industry – e.g. commissioning, funding, legal and finance, festivals & markets, media administration. Each year fifty participants are selected from most of the EU countries and beyond and take part in three one-week long workshops.

How does it work?

Half the participants attend the course with projects and it is an excellent means of development through intense focus on the project with colleagues and experts throughout the year. Most participants attending with a project also bring their writer for the first two weeks which enables producer and writer to benefit together from one-to-one sessions with script experts.

During the first two workshops, in March and June, participants work within groups led by experienced producers and with several experts on script analysis, development and production financing, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching, packaging and more. In the third week in October, 40-50 Decision Makers (commissioning editors, national and regional media funds, sales agents, etc.) join the participants to discuss the projects, companies and careers of the participants, a process which offers unusual access to Europe's Decision Makers.

EAVE graduates join a unique network of active European producers which forms one of the backbones of the industry. Furthermore, EAVE participants and members benefit from our partnerships with the leading European film festivals and markets where EAVE facilitates graduate participation.

Timeline

The interviews with all candidates will take place in autumn 2011 and the selection will be announced in December 2011.

The 3 workshops take place during March 12 - 19 (Luxembourg), June 13 - 20 (Croatia) and October, TBC (The Netherlands) 2012.

FRANKFURTER BUCHMESSE
Registration is now open for Frankfurt StoryDrive 2011 Conference: New dimensions of storytelling  (October 12 and 13)

NEW: Master classes led by international media professionals //StoryDrive Business Centre for crossmedia rights and business collaboration

“Storytelling & Storyselling” is the motto of Frankfurt StoryDrive 2011. The two-day conference and its adjacent trading centre will focus on new forms of storytelling and current trends in the media and entertainment industries, along with rights and co-production models that extend beyond industry boundaries.

“Transmedia has been a hot topic in recent years but its potential has not yet been fully exploited. We'd like to remedy this situation. As the first organised meeting place for all players, StoryDrive serves as an engine for cross-industry collaboration”, announced project manager Britta Friedrich. “This year we will be offering master classes for the first time. These intensive training sessions, along with our services in the StoryDrive Business Centre, provide the know-how and tools needed to successfully do business across industry boundaries.”

Master class: The StoryDrive conference programme

A story is a universe – that’s the vision Canadian transmedia producer Louis-Pierre Pharand (UBI Workshop) will present to StoryDrive participants in his keynote address.

A total of four master classes focused on development, financing, pitching and crossmedia collaboration will demonstrate how this vision can become a reality. How can you convincingly pitch a project to an investor? What does a script have to look like to get Hollywood’s attention? What are the differences between co-production, collaboration and traditional licensing, and what are the pros and cons of each? Each two-hour master class will be led by a renowned media professional and will offer practical information, along with sufficient time for questions and answers.

Trendspotting: Enhanced books, gamification, cloud computing

In their session on the future of enhanced books, film producers Melody Sylvester (Ridley Scott Associates) and Jenny Todd (Canongate) will show that books are no longer (just) for reading. Game designers Pete Smith and Charlie Hoey have their very own concept of world literature – they’ve created a video game version of the novel “The Great Gatsby”. Using the television production “Kill your Darling” as an example, producer Marc Lepetit (Phoenix Film) will show how predictable – or not – crossmedia projects can be. Additional case studies, including Stephen Frears’ comedy “Tamara Drewe”, will provide an exclusive look behind the scenes of cross- and transmedia productions. Frank Sliwka, director of the GDC (Games Developers Conference) Europe, and community manager Peter Larsen will place the new demands of media consumers under the microscope – and demonstrate how media professionals can meet these needs – in their session “The Customer is King”. Alexander Fernandez (Streamline Studios) and others will discuss the potential of “gamification”. The two-day conference will also focus on issues like cloud computing, alternative financing models and new sources of revenue. Speakers will include composer Chris Huelsbeck (“Star Trek – Infinite Space”), Jo Loeffler (Panini Comics), Andreas Peltret (Frogster), Scott Shannon (Random House), designer and interactive writer Martin Gantefoehr, and many more.

Focus on crossmedia business: The StoryDrive Business Centre

The StoryDrive Business Centre is an exclusive Business Lounge located right near the Literary Agents & Scouts Centre in Hall 6.0. This is where StoryDrive participants from the book, film and games industries, along with financial and rights experts, have the opportunity to meet potential new business partners in a relaxed atmosphere. Professional events like “Legal Wake-ups” – short presentations by international media legal experts – along with “Lunch Tables” chaired by conference speakers and matchmaking and pitching events will give participants an opportunity to make new contacts and create new business. “The StoryDrive Business Centre will be the start of many success stories”, added Friedrich.
