Puentes 2011 – the selection!

Following the success of the first two editions of PUENTES, we are delighted to announce that PUENTES will feature in 2011 two workshops again: the first one in Buenos Aires during BAFICI (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) parallel to the BAL (Buenos Aires Lab) from April 7– 11, 2011 and the second one in Gijón during Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón from November 21 – 24, 2011.

PUENTES is organised by EAVE in partnership with TyPA, BAFICI, BAL, Gijón International Film Festival and with the support from MEDIA Mundus.

Puentes will bring together five producers with feature projects from Latin America and five from Europe. During the two workshops they will work together with ‘state of the art’ experts from both continents on script development, co-production between Latin America and Europe, financing in the two regions, legal aspects of co-production, marketing, pitching and promotion, and meet with decision makers during both sessions.

The PUENTES workshop will offer in-depth insight into audiovisual market and operating conditions, legal frameworks, financing, sales, distribution and exhibition practices in both continents, it will provide opportunities for networking between the participants and their companies to create medium and long term co-financing and co-production relationships and it will enable the access to a network of producers, markets, festivals and decision makers in both continents.

The Pixel Lab 2011- Last Call for Entries!

Power to the Pixel's leading Cross-Media Workshop: The Pixel Lab is going to take place in Potsdam, Germany, from 26 June to 2 July 2011.The Pixel Lab is a leading project-led workshop which enables European film producers and media professionals to tap into the business knowledge-base of the film, online, gaming, broadcast and mobile industries. Teaching is led by top international cross-media pioneers, including: Michel Reilhac, Executive Director ARTE France Cinéma; Adam Sigel, Content Strategist, Writer & Producer; Inga Von Staden, Media Architect & Educator; Nuno Bernardo, CEO & Producer, beActive; Christoph Fey, Entertainment Lawyer, Unverzagt - Von Have.  

ARTE France will pay 50% of course fees for up to 5 participants from France and ARTE GEIE will provide the same subsidy for up to 5 participants from Germany.

EAVE Film Finance Forum: participants from 25 countries

The annual EAVE Film Finance Forum takes place in Luxembourg, hotel Novotel Centre during March 31 – April 3, in partnership with the Film Fund Luxembourg. We are delighted to welcome in the Grand Duchy 30 producers and industry professionals from 25 different countries.

Thanks to the support of MEDIA Mundus, 8 professionals from outside Europe (coming from Argentina, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, India, Russia, Singapore, and South Africa) will participate at the Forum.

The 2011 EAVE Film Finance Forum experts Head of Studies Christian Kmiotek (Samsa Film, LU), Daniel Baur (K5 International, DE), Christophe Bruncher (Les Films de la Butte, FR), Carl Clifton (K5 International, UK), Joachim Knaf (Hochschule für Film- und Fernsehen “Konrad Wolf”, DE), Maud Leclair (BNP Paribas, FR), Joëlle Levie (OLFFI, FR), Stefan Rüll (Rüll Law Office, DE), Mathias Schwerbrock (Film Base Berlin, DE) and Bernhard Stampfer (BS Media Finance Advisory, DE) will share their expertise in plenary sessions and private tutorials with the participants.

The sessions cover comprehensively questions of film financing, film economy, consumer behavior, sales and distribution, bank related issues, revenue and legal aspects.

- 365 NEW YEARS (working title) by Paul Negoescu is in development. Producer is EAVE 2007 graduate and Romanian National Coordinator Ada Solomon in co-production with German company Filmallee. Other foreign co-producers are also sought. Negoescu has just finished writing the script about the story of a young man breaking up with his girlfriend on New Year’s Eve. He starts looking for a former lover during the same night, thinking she might be his real love. The premiere of the film is projected for autumn 2012 or spring 2013. www.hifilm.ro

- The documentary HOE LUIDT HET LAND by Stella van Voorst van Beest (producer: EAVE 2005 graduate Denis Vaslin) is in pre-production. In a journey through the Dutch sound landscape Stella discovers how sound and behaviour are related. Hoe luidt het land is co-produced by BOS (Buddhist Broadcasting Foundation) and supported by CoBo fund, Dutch Media Fund and Netherlands Film Fund.

- Guillermo Rocamora’s debut feature SOLO produced by Uruguayan Seacuatico, French Promenades Film, Argentinean Sudestada Cine and Volya Films is in pre-production. Solo is supported by a.o. the Hubert Bals Fund and the Netherlands Film Fund.I AM PROUD TO BE A LADY MECHANIC!, a documentary by Karin Junger about ex-prostitutes in Nigeria who are studying to become car mechanics is in development. The documentary received a development grant from the Netherlands Film Fund and Dutch Media Fund. ‘I am proud to be a Lady Mechanic!’ is produced by EAVE 2005 graduate Denis Vaslin and co-produced by IKON. www.volyafilms.com

- EAVE 2007 project LYING IN WAIT, written by Matthias Tuchmann, producer: EAVE 2007 graduate Oliver Röpke, is in development. The thriller with a budget of 2 m Euros tells the story of a psychiatrist who is fatally attracted to a mysterious woman. She is followed by a doppelganger. It comes to a duel between him and the strange alter ego. www.tr9film.de

- AURORE by Stéphane Vuillet & Chloé Martinon, producer: EAVE 2005 graduate Patrice Nézan (lesfilmsduprésent, France) is development. www.lesfilmsdupresent.fr

- The Britten-Pears Foundation has awarded development funding to EAVE 2006 graduate Anne Beresford’s company MJW Productions for their feature film about composer Benjamin Britten and tenor Peter Pears. Writer Neil Bartlett will chart the love story between Britten and Pears from the moment they first meet until the premier of PETER GRIMES in 1945. www.mjwproductions.com

- TEAM MARIO by Nic Balthazar, producer: EAVE 2009 graduate Peter Bouckaert (Eyeworks Film & TV Drama), co-produced by EAVE 1994 graduate Diana Elbaum (Entre Chien et Loup) and Michiel de Rooy & Sabine Veenendael (Flink Film) is currently in preproduction. - EAVE 2010 project ODYSSEY OF A VAGABOND PRINCESS, directed and written by Altinaï Petrovitch Njegosh, co-written by Petr Vaclav, produced by EAVE 2010 graduate Janja Kralj (KinoElektron), is in pre-production. The film tells the story of a young girl, born and raised in Paris, taht finds out that she’s the descendant of the Montenegrin royal family. - EAVE president Jani Thiltges’ Samsa Film has several films in pre-production: NOS ENFANTS by Joachim Lafosse, a co-production of Versus Production (EAVE 2000 graduate Jacques-Henri Bronkcart), Samsa Film, Les Films du Worso, Box Productions and Prime Time. Niels Arestrup, Emilie Dequenne, and Tahar Rahim are in the cast. Shooting is planned from May 23 to July 22 in Luxemburg, Belgium and Tunisia.QUARTIER LIBRE by Frédéric Fonteyne is a co-production of Artémis Productions, Samsa Film and Liaison Cinématographique. Shooting is scheduled between May 23 and July 15 in Luxemburg and Belgium. www.samsa.lu

- EAVE 2011 participant David Grumback's film LA VIE D'UNE AUTRE by Sylvie Testud is in pre-production with Juliette Binoche and Matthieu Kassowitz in the leading roles.

- EAVE 2008 project LOVE ETERNAL by Brandon Muldowney, producers: EAVE 2008 graduate Morgan Bushe and EAVE 2010 graduate Conor Barry of Fastnet Films is set to shot this year. www.fastnetfilms.com

- EAVE 2004 project ONE MORE CROISSANT by Ilmar Raag and starring Jeanne Moreau, produced by EAVE 2004 graduate and Estonian National Coordinator Riina Sildos (Amrion, Estonia) in co-production with TS Productions and La Parti PRoductions is shooting until the end of March in Paris. www.amrion.ee 

- 40 DAYS OF SILENCE, written and directed by Saodat Ismailova is starting to shoot this month in Central Asia. Co-producers are EAVE 2005 graduate Karsten Stöter (Rohfilm), EAVE 2006 graduate Denis Vaslin (Volya Films) and EAVE 2007 graduate Jean des Forêts (Petit Film). Support comes from is supported by the Hubert Bals Fund, the Netherlands Film Fund, Rotterdam Media Fund, Fonds Sud, Fondation GAN, World Cinema Fund, Goteborg International Film Festival Fund, Global Film Initiative and Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab. 40 DAYS OF SILENCE has a budget of 700.000 Eruos and tells the story about a woman struggling for freedom of choice and emotional expression in present day Uzbekistan. www.volyafilms.com 

- MARUSSA, written and directed by Eva Pervolovici, co-written by Monica Stan, produced by EAVE 2010 graduate Janja Kralj (KinoElektron), EAVE 2009 graduate Tine Fischer (Fischer Films, Denmark), and EAVE 2008 graduate Helle Ulsteen (Kamoli Films, Denmark) is in production. - THE CONGRESS by Ari Folman after Stanislav Lew’s novel "The futurologicalCongress" with Robin Wright, Harvey Keitel, Danny Huston and Paul Giamatti is in production. Shooting started on February 4. - HERE I AM by EAVE 2007 graduate Edward Porembny has been finished will have its premiere in May. The film deals with the fact that in the present time we can have babies by vitro or surrogate mothers, but the law as well morality of our societies are not yet ready for this fact. www.amppolska.com

EAVE European Producers Workshop 2011 kicking off in Luxembourg 

As every year, the annual launch of the EAVE European Producers Workshop takes place in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in partnership with the Film Fund Luxembourg. For this year's workshop 1 during March, 14 – 21 in the Hilton Hotel, we are delighted to welcome 52 producers from 32 countries bringing 34 documentary and feature projects to work on throughout the year. 

The 2011 EAVE pedagogical team is composed of EAVE Head of Studies Alan Fountain (UK), the four group leaders (all active, experienced producers), Roshanak Behesht Nedjad (Flying Moon, DE), Lise Lense-Møller (Magic Hour Films, DK), Danijel Hocevar (emotionfilm, SI), Jani Thiltges (Samsa Film, LU); the script consultants Clare Downs (Forever Films, UK), Jacques Akchoti (FR), Martin Daniel (USA), and documentary expert Sylvia Stevens (Faction Films, UK). They are supported by the specialized experts for Pitching: Sibylle Kurz (DE), Finance: Linda Beath (Ideal Filmworks, IT), Marketing: Sarah Calderon (Karma Films, ES) and Legal Issues: Else Helland (Johan Schlüter law firm, DK), who share their expertise in plenary and group work sessions and individual meetings with the EAVE participants.

The trainee script consultants will be trained as story editors working each on 4 of the 12 selected projects.

Paris Project 2011: REGISTER NOW! Paris Cinema IFF's co-production and development platform

Paris Project is the co-production and development platform of Paris Cinema International Film Festival. It is a four days event, taking place early July, that brings together around twelve international projects in development and a few films in postproduction, that are looking for French and European potential partners (such as co-producers, sales agents, distributors, financers…).The ambition of Paris Project is to gather key players in the French and European film industry, around a few high quality international production projects that are not yet finalised. What makes Paris Project so special and successful is that it aims at encouraging professionals to get involved in foreign projects in development and films in postproduction in order to promote financial arrangements, co-productions and networking with potential French and European partners.

Once again, European professionals will meet to face the challenges of the fast-evolving audiovisual sector through high-level conferences and a European Market. In a sector too often concentrated on technology, Cross Video Days focuses on content. 20 programmes specially selected from around Europe will be presented within this market. They will have the opportunity to find business partners to be produced and/or distributed.

GALWAY FILM FAIR - special opportunity for EAVE producers

EAVE is proud to announce that we continue our partnership with the Galway Film Fair!

Up to 8 EAVE producers with English or original language projects (documentaries or features), preferably from low capacity countries (EU countries other than France, Germany, Italy, Spain & the UK) and/or Eastern Europe will be selected for the Galway Film Fair 2011.

Priority will be given to completed feature films or projects which have a finished screenplay available and a percentage of development and/or production finance in place. 

The festival will cover the cost of accommodation for 3 nights each and waive the entry fee for the Film Fair.

The fair co-ordinates pre-scheduled meetings between filmmakers with projects in development (priority will be given to projects which have a finished screenplay available and a percentage of development and/or production finance in place) and/or completed films and invited Film Financiers, Distributors, Sales Agents and Major Producers.

A pre-selected group of Irish and European producers with feature films/documentary projects will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of these companies. A project book will be available for all decision makers and in the case of completed films viewing facilities will be available.

MEDIA  – latest news During his visit During his visit to Turku, European Capital of Culture 2011, President Jose Manuel Barroso has underlined the importance of the field of culture for the European economy and specially mentioned the MEDIA Programme of which he affirmed the maintenance and reinforcement. The discussion about the shape of the future MEDIA programme is still continuing and all professionals are invited to contribute. 

 

Register for the Public Hearing!

Professionals can still register for the public hearing will be organized in Brussels on March 18, 2011. The event will be organised by MEDIA to discuss future needs/plans. There will be invited speakers from different media disciplines followed by a 'public discussion'. It is crucial that many European film professionals attend the event in order to take the opportunity to express doubts/worries/need for clarification regarding the future of MEDIA. Please try to attend if you can possibly make the time. A small crowd will make a fatally wrong signal to the European Commission.

EAVE European Producers Workshop 2011 kicking off in Luxembourg

As every year, the annual launch of the EAVE European Producers Workshop takes place in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in partnership with the Film Fund Luxembourg. For this year's workshop 1 during March, 14 – 21 in the Hilton Hotel, we are delighted to welcome 52 producers from 32 countries bringing 34 documentary and feature projects to work on throughout the year. 

The 2011 EAVE pedagogical team is composed of EAVE Head of Studies Alan Fountain (UK), the four group leaders (all active, experienced producers), Roshanak Behesht Nedjad (Flying Moon, DE), Lise Lense-Møller (Magic Hour Films, DK), Danijel Hocevar (emotionfilm, SI), Jani Thiltges (Samsa Film, LU); the script consultants Clare Downs (Forever Films, UK), Jacques Akchoti (FR), Martin Daniel (USA), and documentary expert Sylvia Stevens (Faction Films, UK). They are supported by the specialized experts for Pitching: Sibylle Kurz (DE), Finance: Linda Beath (Ideal Filmworks, IT), Marketing: Sarah Calderon (Karma Films, ES) and Legal Issues: Else Helland (Johan Schlüter law firm, DK), who share their expertise in plenary and group work sessions and individual meetings with the EAVE participants. 

Individual meetings with the script analysts, screenings and special sessions dedicated to fiction and documentary film development as well as co-producing with Luxembourg will complement the schedule:

French producer and EAVE group leader Patrick Sobelman (Agat Films / Ex Nihilo) will give a presentation addressing the various questions raised in the process of developing feature films. 

Danish producer and EAVE group leader Lise Lense-Møller (Magic Hour Films) will present the specific questions related to the development of documentaries.

CEO of Luxembourg Film Fund Guy Daleiden and Luxembourgish producer and EAVE group leader Jani Thiltges will give the participants an overview of the possibilities of co-producing with Luxembourg.

Donate to the EAVE Alan Fountain International Scholarship Fund

A scholarship has been set up to honour the memory of Alan Fountain, former Head of Studies and President of EAVE, who passed away on March 3. Its goal is to enable one producer from outside the EU to participate in all three sessions of the EAVE Producers Workshop each year.
